Strike looks to me to be right on target with the goalkeeper. He went a bit to the left, held out his hands, which then pushed the ball to the right and behind him into the net. Even Griezmann looked a bit embarrassed to celebrate knowing it was a GK error.

Nevertheless, looking more and more likely France will be playing the winner of Brazil v Belgium in the Semi.

Well, that was not a brilliant game. France never seemed to need to tap into full throttle. Uruguay's offense were also very lackluster.

Agreed, but eminently watchable. It was a quality game and I felt a touch sad for Uruguay but France deserved to win...

I'm watching on a British tv stream (ITV) and the commentators were brutal in their assessment and criticism. They were saying things you would never hear on an American sports commentator say. But, let's be honest...the goalkeeper has to catch that. It's a moving target...you can't push it away and not have it backfire on you.

Yes. It was a grievous error by the keeper...

The better team definitely advanced to the semi.

Belgium v Brazil next....that could be a shootout slugfest!

On a side note, somebody in England calculated that throughout this cup Neymar has thus far spent 14 minutes rolling around on his back. To be honest, I'd like to see Belgium beat Brazil setting up a France v Belgium semi. But, whoever wins should make for an amazing semi final w/France.

EDIT: I'm thinking this French side could go all the way.

Go Red Devils!

Neymar alone has me rooting against Brazil.

Great first half! Lots of movement and scoring opportunities. Amazing we've only seen 2 goals so far...

Neymar and reputation is never going to get that call. Maybe if he didn't fall down in a gentle breeze, he might get a penalty there.

Brazil 26 shots to Belgium's 8. De Bruyne's goal was a beauty. When Belgium are on the attack they look so deadly. But, Brazil had opportunities to win that game 3-2.

True, but the Belgium/Brazil game most certainly was. The Belgium defending was near perfection and I expect will give France fits. The semi should produce another great game but the one we just watched will be tough to beat...

Agreed. It was a much more explosive game from the start. Belgium's offense, when they are set are really tactical and systematic in their attack. I loved the development of their 2nd goal. It was just beautiful.

But, Brazil were not without chances. There were at least 2 goals that could have, should have gone in (allowing them to win 3-2), but were either brilliantly saved by Belgium's GK or they whiffed on the strike.

France v Belgium should be a fantastic game steeped in border rivalry!

That’s the catch. If you go to the ground and roll around in pain every few minutes, when you do actually get fouled, nobody will think it’s real. With that being said, he wasn’t fouled in the box.

I think there was one earlier where he was fouled. The Belgian defender definitely hit his leg and no ball. VAR was used, but they decided against it. FIFA rules state that when VAR is used they have to look at it full speed and no slow mo. So, at full speed I can see how it looked like a legit tackle, but at slower speeds you can clearly see he hits his leg. It was also on the edge of the box so discretion could have given a free kick or penalty. However, the late second one where they both went up for a header and he got a bit of a Belgian arm wasn't a penalty. Play on...it is what it is.

But, when you are down 1-2 you want everything and every call to go your way. As Browns fans we all know that feeling!

England v Sweden! Super stoked, but worried about this one. Sweden are methodical and their defense can be suffocating. They beat France, Holland and Italy to qualify for the WC. They then beat Mexico when it was win or go home and then they beat Switzerland who were ranked 6th best team in the world. England also have a horrible record against Sweden. They cannot underestimate this opponent.

COME ON, ENGLAND!

England have had their chances to put this game away. Could be 3-0 at this point, but should definitely be 2-0. Gotta capitalize on those opportunities.

Agreed. Shepherd missed a glorious opportunity all alone. He should have cut the ball back into the middle. One, maybe two English players were wide open...

Gareth Southgate soon to be" SIR Gareth Southgate".

Superb accomplishment considering the hard, controversial decisions England made four years ago to not play the older, big name players and not progress past the group stage. They were slammed with second guessing and criticism. They then lost to Iceland 2 years ago in the Euro only to be ridiculed by the British press. Patience and team unity have now paid off as the Three Lions squad advance to the World Cup semi final for the first time since 1990!

Hopefully we will see the same with the Browns!

I've had Croatia as my dark horse team the whole tournament and I still do. Don't count the Russians out, however, but I think the Croatians will prevail and face England in the semi!

2-2!

Penalty shootout is looking more and more likely! Can the Croatian goalkeeper's hamstring survive?

I didn't think Croatia would prevail; they seemed very tired later on in the second half. They are also a bit banged up, but I expect all hands on deck for the Semi. (I wonder about their keeper though).
