The guys didn't play last year either.

As long as he can mentor these guys after surgery I don't see much of a difference on D.

This isn't good news, but it ain't awful news either. I haven't given a lot of thought to either Matt or Willie... we're getting younger at LB.

Same here...Depthwise, if one thing has vastly improved since Phil took over it's at linebacker.

Bad news, yes. But only for the fact Willie was going to be a solid contributer. However I'm very excited to see Peek start. I would go as far to say Peek is an upgrade over Willie. Being a Bearcat fan I've seen him since his college days. He is very athletic (played basketball as well for a few seasons). He will bring more to the pass rush and won't miss a beat in terms of run D. Plus he's still young and is a very intense competitor. And with Chaun Thompson providing depth I'm not to worried about our OLB's. As long as Peek doesn't go down we'll be fine.

I don't wish injuries on anyone not even TIMMMY...but sometimes its better to play with young players to see what you got...so in this situation I will look on the positive and be condoled

New season, same stories.

We all done wiping the tears....poor us...everybody feel sorry for us...
Common, Willie was brought in as a leader in the locker room, he wasnt gonna be counted on this year, and Stewart, he was fighting just to make the team, so this isnt a big lose at all, Peek was goona play 80% of the snaps and this means maybe some young kid makes the team.

as long as its not Wimbley, DQ, Davis, Thompson, or Williams... i'm fine..

maybe Willie can gain some weight during his off time so he can play DE..

Peek is a beast. He will probably start off the season as the nickel rusher, but I expect big things out of him.

I know he was at Cincinnati..but I haven't seen much of him in the pros..but I do remember I had him on my mock draft..but we never sniffed at him..

Was it here I was reading that the Browns have experimented with Andra at the SOLB and then Leon at SILB? Andra's actually a really good blitzer, that package intrigues me.
I believe I saw the same thing too but I didn't pay it much attention..till now.

WIllie didn't light it up in the pass rush like the days of old, but he was solid agains the run, knew where he was supposed to be and usually seemed to recognize trick/miss direction plays. I will definetly miss that. I don't think peek was going to get 80% this season.

I had a good feeling about the Peek pick up when it happend and am happy as heck he is on the team. I think he will add something to the passrush, has anyone really seen him play the past 2 or 3 years that could tell us how he is vs. the run? That is still our biggest concern and I can't help think we may miss big Willie there. ( i sure hope im wrong).

On Sewart, we lost versatile depth. i think we could miss that more than we think. LB was the the deepest position on the team and we all finallly felt good about it.
It's not the end of the world but OLB is now VERY thin. McMillen is it.(behind the starters) Unless they move CT or Leon outside, which leaves ILB thin.
Unless of course your happy with Unck,Clifton Smith, and Griffith?

The season hasn't even started and already our deepest position is one injury away from nerve racking Sundays. (at least on paper).

We have to remember that if McGinest is going to miss 6 weeks, that means he'll only miss TWO regular season games. Yeah, they're big games, but he could potentially be back for FOURTEEN games.

And what's with this sudden belief that, because we lost TWO LBs, we all of a sudden have no depth at the position?

C'mon, Stewart filled in and played his best, but I don't think any of us really considered him to be a *great* player. McGinest played well and did a good job, but with his age, I think it would have been a pipe dream to think he'd play in every game this year.

We lose 2 LBs (one of them for potentially only a couple regular season games), and everyone is now saying how we're up the creek. C'mon people. Just because we get a setback doesn't mean the sky is falling.

It's like I've been saying for a while now. God can only hate the Browns for so long. (knock on wood).

From what I saw of Willie last year I don't think he is a starter anymore in this league. He is a situational pass rusher at best. We need to be looking at another starter anyway. I truly believe Peek was brought in to be the starter. If Willie makes it back he will be fine as a guy coming in off the bench. Stewart would have been a backup and provided good depth. It is too bad but at least he wasn't a starter. Injuries are a huge part of the NFL. A 53 man roster usually means all will get to play and they need to able to contribute.

what i said was we are (one injury away) from being up the creek. Which a huge difference from or LB status just a few days ago. The season hasn't even started yet. You just know, during real games someone (or two) is going to get hurt.

plus, missing 6 games an NFL season isn't exaclty as easy from my brain to brush off. ( that is the time frame RC was talking about in his presser for Willie.I think)

So no, we are not up the creek yet. But many of us our frustrated. We finally got a positon group lookin really good with quality depth and we just took a major hit the the unit before a single meaningful game is played. That's all I'm saying.

I'm not arguing with ya Roc, I know what your saying, But this stuff happens year after year, it's not bad luck, curse or anything like that it's life in the NFL, every team, every postion get banged up, every team looses one or two starters for a peroid of time, some for all season, those are the ones that hurt, people have been around enough they should understand it's part of the game, something nobody can control, we cant get all jacked up over injuries, i'm sure if our current back up cant fill the void, than we will bring others in. But I find humorous is people talk Willie he's old washed up cut him and save the cap money, than he gets hurt and people are wondering how our defense will survive, Stewart people wanted cut, bad signing from Atlanta, waste of money, out for season now we scream about depth, it's just ironic how people tilt as the boat floats....

I hear what your saying. I'm not freakin' out like some, but I am very bumbed to hear it. all though a bit numb to it at the same time with our recent injury history. ... sigh

I will state for the record that i was not one of the ones saying the above about those two players. I welcome any and all experienced depth for our team. we havent' had ANY sine returning to the league.

just because a guy was a starter for us that should have been depth. doesnt mean i want him cut when he finally is what he should be, depth.
As long as we're comfortable under the cap, I don't mind the FO paying a guy too much to be depth. Of all the fans in the league, Browns fans should be open to that from recent injury history. The past week and a half around the league is why.

just one poor sap's humble opinion

Peek was your typical mid major type defender, a bit undersized, but had some flashes. He was a third round pick of the Texans, and he was starting to come on as a pass rusher in 2005, their last year in the 3-4. Last year he got throw around a lot because he's a bit small to be a full time 4-3 DE, but I love the way he gets upfield.

It also makes sense that they put Thompson back outside at this point. Again, he's an attacking move forward type LB, and he did well at OLB in 2005. I think it will be interesting what packages are shown tomorrow. I'm taping the game and I'll break it down as much as possible.

Well my prediction that McMillian won't make the team is probably wrong.

I genuinely hope he does not. For some reason, that pick has always bothered me.

Me too...but who else is there left now for the 4th OLB spot? I hated that pick, an underachieving project...I wanted Kemoeatu, T.Cole or Britt there....oh well

Not sure Who made this recollection - the Who is not important.

The Facts are. No...Andra was actually moved to Will ILB - taking DQs spot while having Leon fill in at the SAM ILB position.

The only time I believe Andra was given some reps at Strongside OLB is prior to McG coming here...the first year of RAC n Co. and if so it was short lived.

Its Chaun Thompson's spot now with Peek in there for Passing Downs as his fortay is rushing the passer. Which shouldn't be a bad combo. McG was important cause he knows our discipline D backwards n forwards his raw skills were diminishing...although I heard nothing but good things on his conditioning coming in for this season.

McMillan??? Special Teams will determine his fate. If Carlton Smith is a demon or any other LB proves a stud on Special Teams...they make the team over McMillan.

Says who? I don't think it has been determined who the starter will be.
