Browns/Buckeye fans used to sojourn to Chris Spielman’s bar The Stables. A very cool bar up to 20 years ago. The bar is huge and open. A great place to visit during Hall-of-Fame trips.

It was a "rich person's" horse stables built in the 20s I think. Converted into a very large, open bar.






I once snuck up on Pitdawg and his date sitting at the bar. (he didn’t know what I looked like yet and I was with a group that knew him (he didn’t see us sitting in a distant part of the open bar)).

I pretended to be a stupid Browns fan. Great acting, huh?

By the way, I think the Stables has been sold a few times and it looks like a shuttered-up piece of trash now.

Too bad it was a fantastic venue.

Is this an example of what happened/happening to Canton?

I travel that way to get to my farm. I recall being able to see it from 77s but I don't recall seeing it lately!
I could just be missing it or it's now blocked from view, torn down or I'm just losing my mind.(a real possibility) It was a pretty cool place though!

Canton is like any other city. There are good parts and bad parts. The surrounding areas, all w/in 5 minutes are very nice. Places like the Strip, Belden Village, Jackson Twp, and this place in N. Canton: http://www.gervasivineyard.com/Dine/Bistro-Dining.

Btw, I used to love The Stables. We used to go there all the time. My wife always wanted to go there for brunch and the kids loved it when they were small.

And yes, it actually was the stables for the Timken family. They're the same family who owned/owns Timken Roller Bearing company.

Yes it has been closed up for a few years. The only thing going on in the stables now is junkies shooting heroine, and yes this is very indictive of what Canton has become, and this is in one of the "nice" parts of Canton, just a stones throw from the HOF.

I think you are taking it the wrong way. Its not he doesn't like Canton the city, he doesn't like Canton the HOF for shafting him.

I drove by the stables a few hours ago and was able to spot them. Looked like ladders and scaffolding around it. Maybe new life? Hard to see much.

I grew up in Avondale..Lived across from Gervasi"s for 10 years then moved back this way in October.. I live on 17th between Broad and Lakeside...It's a private dead end by the Pines. Still a Nice area.
Last time we talked in a pm you were still in Canton.

Yep that's it..It was a cool place..Chris didn't keep it long..Vers was correct it was part of the Timken family. I believe some kind of a religious org has it now.

I drive by it everyday on my way to and from work... I think some church group has it...I will have to check it out.

My parents live on 3rd st NW between Broad and Wertz, I used to rent a place right next door. I was so close to the fairgrounds that I could watch the demo derby from my upstairs bedroom window. But didnt want to stand by a window for too long because of the random gunfire.

Last I knew the STables was owned by some Hebrew church or organization.

Yep, and he is going to spend it here. I'll be there. I watched him play many times. I still hold Gator season tickets but always sell them to a friend and seatmate. May go to 1 game a year. I also hold Moc season tickets, just to support the local teams. I had 4 of those so I could take all the kids if they wanted to go. Now I just hold 2 seats to both football and basketball.

The guy has always been outspoken. A very polarizing sports figure. Some love him, some hate him.....but at the end of the day, its just who he is, what he does.

Dude doesn't like the city of Canton, its not for him....he decided to share that through the media. Small Potatoes, some might think that that's poor taste, oh well.

At the end of the day, I don't really like Akron or Canton. I've always preferred Cleveland. Personal preference. To me, pretty much a non-issue.

There are so many HOFers who make the trip back to Canton each year. It's about honoring the sport and those who played it. It's not about "liking" or "not liking" a city.

If your punk self doesn't want to be there to enjoy the festivities, than we will move on w/out you. No big deal.

Yes, when I think of folks who don't want to be the center of attention at a big overdone production, T.O. is always one of the first people that comes to mind.

Rather than him just not "liking" Canton, it's much more likely that this is because he was so seriously snubbed in 2016 and 2017... He didn't just fail to make it, he got hammered, which begs the question for the voters, what changed in 2018?
