Not really. It's actually the lowest form of conversation one can have... it's meaningless and accomplishes nothing.. which is probably why it is the one most frequently engaged in.. because it requires the least amount of thought.


Vers, we live in a culture of hatred.. everything, literally everything, is an "us vs them" mentality. That can be fun when applied to things like sports, it's not fun when it's applied to life... I feel bad for any Hispanic that is mistreated but when you consider the tone of politics over the last 15-20 years, the tone of social media, the tone of the regular media, the tone of talk shows... what do we expect to happen? The collective "we" keep waiting for somebody to change it, like this magical person is going to arise out of the ashes and ascend to power in this country and suddenly we will all get along... until the day Jesus comes again, it ain't going to happen. The only way to change it is for millions and millions of people to look at the real problem... which is in the mirror.... and decide they aren't going to be a part of it any more... not "I'll stop if they stop first".. rather "I'll stop because it's the right thing to do".... not "But they did it first".. rather "I won't respond in kind".... not "If I don't hate them back, I'm allowing their hate".. rather "I won't hate"..

When we stop justifying our own hate, things might start to change.

Us vs Them is called Tribalism. People like to belong to Tribes, so it will never change.

Rep. Diane Black (R-TN) has a simple idea do discourage illegal immigration – she wants to make it a felony.

“Currently, when you come to the country illegally, it is just a misdemeanor, and many times people come and they’re turned around and just sent back, and really nothing much happens,” Black said Wednesday on the Todd Starnes Radio Show.

Black has filed a bill in the House of Representatives that would make an illegal entrance into the United States a felony crime, which means that “if later on you were to decide to try to come to the country legally, if you have a felony on your record, it disqualifies you.”

“This is a way,” Black said, “that if people really do want to come to the country, and they’re coming here for economic reasons, which we know many people do, they will come here and wait in line and wait their turn.”

Black said she is currently in the process of getting co-sponsors for the bill, which she says is meant to solve the issue of illegal immigration by cutting to the chase and “keep people from coming here illegally to begin with.”

The congresswoman, who is currently running for governor in her home state of Tennessee, said that even in a non-border state like hers, there is still concern about illegal immigration.

“People do not want folks coming here illegally, they don’t want people to come to our country where we don’t know who they are, we don’t know what they’re bringing with them, we don’t know why they’re here, how long they’re staying. All of these things create a lot of uncertainty, and they create an unsafe environment,” she said.

Black noted the difficulty in passing a “large comprehensive bill” that has “many moving parts,” and expressed optimism that a small streamlined bill like her’s, would have a better chance of passing Congress.

“This is really a pretty simple bill, and the whole purpose of this is to disincentivize people from coming to the country illegally.”

I get what you are saying, man. But, I think guys like you and I know all of that is wrong. I am only posting about this because I want change.

Change can happen. Things have moved in a positive direction for blacks, women, and gays over the years. BS still exists for all groups, but it's getting better.

On the other hand, the situation for minorities such as Hispanics, Muslims, and Native Americans is getting worse because they don't have a strong enough voice.

I am asking for people like you, Clem, CHS, etc to step forward and help put a stop to this rampant abuse of certain groups of people. We need to look at people as individuals and stop w/broad generalizations.

In a way...........I thank Vambo because his article is proof of just how narrow-minded and hateful people who are biased against entire groups of people are.

As to Vambo's post regarding making illegal entry a felony, before you dismiss it, let's talk about it.. as was being discussed earlier, I want to set up a more efficient and fair system... but if we are going to make the system better, then we have to make the punishment for breaking it worse... that's just my thought.. one of the things I think we need, is a serious deterrent to coming here illegally.... spending countless millions of dollars catching the same illegal immigrants multiple times and just sending them back so they can try again isn't a policy... it's a game of red rover and we are losing...

So you can disagree with the notion that making it a felony is a good idea.. but it's worthy of discussion...

Hatred that profound can never be totally hidden. It's like water: it seeps out through every crack. And when its pressure builds beyond tact and propriety's ability to contain it, the dam breaks... and that video shows us all what it looks like. What it sounds like. What it smells like.

I learned to recognize the sights, sounds and smells of bigotry when I was around 5 years old. It was the first time I can remember seeing My Mother openly shed tears in front of her young son. 5 is way too young to have one's innocence stripped from them.

Well... I'm not 5 any more. And that smell has been around every day of every year of my life. Even now- in the 21st century A.D.

Federal judge commends family reunification effort, eyes next deadline

A federal judge on Friday commended Trump administration efforts to reunify young children and families separated at the border but also said he plans to watch closely as a deadline approaches involving older children.

U.S. District Judge Dana Sabraw said at a hearing in San Diego that the government has demonstrated good faith and largely complied with a deadline this week to reunite families with children under 5.

At the same time, he indicated he will be monitoring the administration's actions ahead of a July 26 deadline to reunite more than 2,500 older children with their families.

The judge said the administration must provide a list of names of parents in immigration custody and their children by Monday and complete background checks for them by Thursday.

The American Civil Liberties Union, which represents the separated families, has said the administration failed to meet last Tuesday's deadline to reunify dozens of children under 5 with their families and should therefore be closely watched as the next deadline approaches.

The administration disputed that characterization, saying it reunified all 58 children under 5 who were eligible and that it complied with the judge's order.

It acknowledged that 19 of the 58 children were reunified Wednesday and one came on Thursday — after the deadline — "for logistical reasons specific to each case."

The administration filed a plan Friday saying it would immediately begin reuniting the older children with their families.

Those reunions were expected to begin "on a rolling basis" leading to the deadline, according to the Justice Department. The reunifications will occur at six to eight unspecified locations determined by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement.

The government said it was using "truncated" procedures to verify parentage and perform background checks involving 2,551 children.

Officials said they were concerned the process threatened child safety but noted it was adopting the shorter procedure to comply with court orders.

Friday's hearing was the fourth in eight days on the issue, a sign of how closely Sabraw is monitoring the process and ruling quickly on any disputes. He scheduled four more hearings for updates over the next two weeks, including one Monday.

"There will be a lot of interaction and a lot of opportunity to raise these issues, whatever may come along as we go," he said.

Late last month, Sabraw, an appointee of President George W. Bush, gave the administration 14 days to reunify children under 5 and 30 days to reunify children 5 and older.

The ACLU said in a joint court filing Thursday that it wants the administration to deliver a list of all children 5 and older by Monday to "ensure that reunification plans are not formulated haphazardly at the last minute."

The administration initially provided a list of about 100 under-5 children who were believed eligible for reunification by this week's deadline but whittled it down to less than 60 by Thursday.

It said parents of 11 children were excluded for their criminal histories and Judge commends family reunification, eyes next deadlineseven turned out not to be parents. Others were determined to be a danger to the child.

This thread is entitled "Hate Crimes Against Hispanics." It is not entitled "The Problems with Illegal Immigration."

I started this thread not to argue about how to stop illegal immigration. There are multiple threads about that. I also did not start this thread to pile on "illegals," because there are many of those, as well.

I started it because many Hispanics who are legal are facing discrimination, bias, bigotry, and outright hate. That is a problem!

Changing the course of the conversation is not going to fix a societal problem that either encourages or averts its eyes to such heinous acts.

I just went back to the OP. It contained an article about a 91 year old Hispanic grandfather who was a legal resident of this country being pummeled by a brick while the attacker screamed "Go back to your own country."
