Heard on NPR tonight on the way home from work that the EU has worked out a new trade deal with Japan and in a backhanded slap "will continue to pursue trade deals with our friends"
And China is filling the void left from the reduction of purchases of U.S. Soybeans by greatly increasing the purchase of soybeans from Russia Well our soybean farmers should be enjoying the winning about now... 25+ percent loss in sales and exports.

He's going to crash it all. It's the only success he has had. He never succeeds at anything so he must crash the economy.

At least he's finally beginning to understand the hurt this places on the farmers and is willing to take actions to help them.
If he's willing to do this for every industry this impacts can we call it a bailout too?

So Trump has directly caused farmers to lose billions they could have made in the private sector by making and selling their products in a capitalistic market.. and has replaced it with taxpayer funded government bail out money instead.. And you give this a and you call yourself a conservative...

Trump's tariffs screwed over the farmers, and now his solution is to give them 12 billion dollars in aid (socialism), even though not lowering the tariffs will only result in said farmers needing even MORE aid soon?
this is business efficiency? this is fiscal conservatism?

It has zero to do with Conservatism. It's simply that those who promote Trump refuse to address that point.

Does it? Not trying to be snarky, but you have to understand that yes, you do have 40 years over me.
Think about it, I haven’t been alive long enough to actually experience fiscal conservative policies at the national level that much. My only experience is the bush years, but I was still 13 when he was elected, and 21 when he left.
So my experience is basically that, plus seeing the state of states like Kansas, Mississippi, and Louisiana under fiscal conservative policies.
None of it is good.
So that’s why I ask, is this conservatism? Cause.....ummm...eww.

Annnnnbd Republican senators balk at Trump’s trade aid for farmers http://thehill.com/homenews/senate/398602-republican-senators-balk-at-trumps-trade-aid-for-farmersMy favorite part: The news was met with immediate pushback and criticism from Republicans, who say the administration is distorting the free market and trying to put farmers on “welfare.” “They want trade, not aid,” Sen. Ron Johnson (R-Wis.) said of farmers caught in the middle of the trade war. “This is becoming more and more like a Soviet-type of economy here. Commissars deciding who should be granted waivers. Commissars in the administration trying to figure out how they’re going to sprinkle around benefits,” he said. _____ I get what you mean now, Pit. And i find it funny how the guy mentions ‘Soviet-style’. Ya know, cause of the current situation we find ourselves in with Russia.

this is fiscal conservatism? This is Trump wanting to have his cake and eat it too. Let's start a trade war under sketchy pretenses, then when his base gets hurt he offers a bailout to them so they don't get mad at him.

No, you absolutely do NOT have this right. Anybody who thinks his solution is just to give them 12 billion in aid is fooling themselves.. He also plans to give them this snappy "Make Our Farmers Great Again" hat.. #ProblemSolved

Farmers already don't want to be put on further welfare. I don't blame them. It's dumb that the government pays them to not compete. However, most of these farms are horrible and deserve to be destroyed so we can get on with vertical farming.

If left alone to produce and compete they would drive prices down across the board. The government is saving them from themselves but killing innovation at the same time.

Look at all the experts on here who much prefer we lose nearly a trillion dollars per year to our trading partners than allow our President to try to fix this mess. All those experts who did nothing about it for decades. All those experts who do not even have the wisdom to know fighting this now, while our economy is zooming, is the right time to fight for change. But like everything else in Libby Land, cuz Trump.

www.nbcnews.com...But perhaps Capitol Hill doth protest too much. What Trump has done with a wave of his hand is allow conservatives to retain purist positions against tariffs and subsidies with less fear that GOP candidates will be punished by aggrieved farmers in the midterm elections. The Trump bailout is a lifeline for Republicans who were faced with the treacherous choice of letting farmers suffer or criticizing a president who is immensely popular among their constituents. The upside is less pain for farmers. And there's no realistic downside risk of Trump alienating his supporters because they see the move as too nakedly political or ideologically abhorrent. If it works, he'll have diminished the chances that his tariffs will cost Republicans control of the Senate. With the GOP hoping to pick up seats in a series of states dependent on agriculture -- including Indiana, Missouri, Florida, Montana and North Dakota -- that's no small thing....

Breaking News... EU agrees to cut industrial tariffs. EU agrees to buy more soy beans. Trump secures concessions from EU to avoid trade war. Will work together to reform the WTO. President Juncker: "We have made a deal today." -So, looks like we are off to a good start. Trump Announces E.U. Has Granted Trade Concessions By Jack Crowe July 25, 2018 4:44 PM https://www.nationalreview.com/news/trump-announces-european-union-trade-concessions/President Trump announced during a Wednesday press conference that his meeting with European officials yielded key trade concessions, including an increase in American soybean and liquefied natural gas (LNG) exports to Europe, and a commitment to work toward eliminating non-auto tariffs entirely. “We have agreed today to work toward zero tariffs, zero tariff barriers and zero subsidies on non-auto industrial goods,” Trump said, reciting a joint statement crafted with European Commission president Jean-Claude Juncker. “We will also work to reduce barriers and increase trade in services, chemicals, pharmaceuticals, medical products, as well as soybeans. The European Union is going to start almost immediately to but a lot of soybeans, they’re a tremendous market, to buy a lot of soybeans from our famers in the midwest primarily.” “The European Union wants to import more liquefied natural gas from the United States and they’re going to be a very big buyer. We’re going to make it much easier for them but they will be massive buyers, so that they will be able to diversify their energy supply,” he added. Trump pledged to “not go against the spirit” of ongoing negotiations, presumably by refraining from implementing further tariffs, and said he would “resolve” existing “retaliatory tariffs.” Juncker also vowed to work toward reducing existing tariffs, which were first implemented last month in tit-for-tat fashion after the Trump administration slapped 10 and 25 percent tariffs on steel and aluminum respectively and the EU retaliated by placing tariffs on just over $3 billion in American goods. The E.U. trade chief also confirmed that he had in fact committed to importing more soy-beans and natural gas from the U.S. The agreement comes after a series of reports Wednesday morning that indicated Trump is advocating the implementation of 25 percent tariffs on foreign-made cars, against the advice of his trade advisers. The specifics regarding auto tariffs were reportedly still being developed as Trump’s meeting with Juncker came to a close.
