The church and its pastor, the Rev. Fred Phelps, have become notorious over recent years for their claim that the attack of 9/11 was an act of God's vengeance and their determination to make that case at the funerals of U.S. soldiers who died in Iraq. In a press release issued the day after the bridge collapse, the church called for protests at the funerals and outlined its feelings about the relationship between God's plan and the sins of Minneapolis and Minnesota, which it calls the "land of the Sodomite damned." Reached at the church, Shirley Phelps Roper, who is both the daughter of the pastor and one of the attorneys for the church, said that America, and Minnesota especially, have alienated God by its tolerance for homosexuality, and that the bridge collapse was an act of God's vengeance. She said: "The bridge stood in place by the word of God and it fell by the word of God...Each of these little events is just a harbinger of the coming destruction of this American experiment. We are delivering the final call of the doomed nation." She said, as they have done for years, members of the church would stand "lawfully and peacefully on the public right of way" near the funerals and "put in the air words of praying and instruction and warning." The signs that the protesters will wave will read: "God cast down the bridge... Thank God for 9/11... America is doomed... God hates fags... God hates fag enablers... God hates Minnesota." LINK

50 years ago it was popular to hate/disapprove of gays.
Today it's popular to hate/disaprove of people who don't like gays.
Gays argued "You should accept everyone for who they are, even if they're different".
But they don't feel that they should accept people who feel different about homosexuality than they do.
Gays argue that what they do in their own community is there own business. Gay-haters argue the same thing.
50 years ago you could lose your job for giving a black or gay a job.
Today you can lose your job for not giving them one.
What makes one group's oppression of the other more moral than the reverse?

If there can be a Pro-Gay Parade then why can't there be an Anti-Gay Parade?
If gays are supposed to be able to express themselves publicly without fear or retribution then shouldn't anti-gays have the same freedom?

OK, I took your post as my telling them they are welcome to leave the country if they hate it so much, as the same the same thing that happened 50 years ago, that people told the blacks they could leave the country.

Just a general comment ....... I don't think that God intended for anyone to go through live hating people for no good reason whatsoever. The Bible says "Hate the sin, love the sinner" ...... yet this group seems to hate eveything and everyone. I don't think I could find that much free time to try and generate that much hatred. (Nor would I want to)

If I was a family member of one of the victims, and I saw these people doing these protests at a funeral, I would go beserk.
I would literally need to be restrained.
What a disgrace to the human race. These people are the equivalent of rotting garbage.

Damn the First Amendment, they DO NOT have the right to violate a funeral, especially for a fallen American.

Well then following his logic, God must hate people in his state after tornados whiped out complete towns earlier in the summer for what? Allowing people like him to continue forming a church on pure hate, the opposite of Christ.
The bridge collapsing was a fail in repair. The tornados were undoubtedly a natural act and where did they happen? Actually where do the most tornados touch down? Kansas has to be in the top-3 or 4 in the country.
Don't throw stones Mr. Phelps. When you see Jesus and He reminds you that the greatest commandment is to love one another, remember these acts when the feet start burning.
I call them once. The receptionist was very clear, after I told her that I would continue to pray that God would show them His real meaning - love, that she didn't want me praying that to any God. Twisted. For every Bin Laden distorting a faith there is a Coresh or Phelps, pure and simple in the devil's design. And I hate to say it, I am only spreading the Devil's work by responding to anything-Phelps.
