Here's how our local rag likes to incite the citizenry. They did offer a half assed apology after this was plastered all over social media.

So is this the same newspaper, just sent to different areas? Interesting that they needed to omit key parts of a sentence before sending it out west.

Yeah, I've been reading a bunch about this on facebook. I don't get the Blade anymore, for reasons other than this. (if I pay for 7 day a week delivery, but only get the paper 3-4 times a week? And it isn't fixed, after calling to complain? And the excuse I get is "Oh, the delivery lady has only been doing this for 6 months. I spoke with her, she said she can't find your address." Oh, really? She can find it 3-4 times a week, and trust me, we haven't moved our house)
Anyway, several well respected friends mentioned this. They got version 2.
And the Block family reply? Priceless: "We're in Paris. We didn't know about this. We run the paper as a service. We don't make any money from it." (that's a translation, of course)

So is this the same newspaper, just sent to different areas? Interesting that they needed to omit key parts of a sentence before sending it out west. It was Sunday's paper. Many people have tried to explain it away by saying "oh, different press times, the editor must have changed it when it went out to the other places." I don't buy that. You don't stop the presses to change a couple of words.

I wonder which version was printed first?
When the paper apologized, did they give an 'excuse'?

First of all, thanks. I had a hunch that the 'race-naming' portion was caught, but too late before some copies of that edition got out there.
I have to be honest, jfanent: I think that newspaper did a better job handling this than many media outlets would, they were very detailed, explaining the many snafus with open-ness, for example: explaining why media outlets are desperate to break big news. Trouble is, they screwed up - several of them - by trying to jump the gun.
I will say that a credible newspaper shouldn't quote some random person's Facebook post, that's something that shouldn't be done.

I don't know, it seems to me they tried to incite people to create even more news. None of this apology crap would have happened if it weren't for people pointing out their bs and calling them out on fb.

I watched the video of the shooting. In real time, there could be some questions. In slow mo, it was obvious the guy, an armed robber several times over, pulled a gun.
That's just me, watching the video. Imagine being the cops - seeing the perp on a bike, seeing him ditch the bike and run, and seeing the guy square up, pull a gun from his waistband, ...................

The video pretty much speaks for itself. Once that was released, tensions calmed down. Of course, all The Blade published was the grieving grandmother's point of view.

that's crap ... certainly papers have done this sort of thing for years, but I agree: media shapes a LOT of people's opinions

I worked at a newspaper for 7 years, and I can honestly tell you that there are times where the paper goes to press with some errors, then changes are made, the press gets stopped, plates are re-made, slapped on the press, and they begin printing again.
But go ahead and hate the Toledo Blade all you want. I hate Toledo period. Armpit of Ohio, and Michigan can have it back for all I care.
I'm just saying that mistakes happen, and when it comes to newspaper presses, deadlines, and newsroom pagination, I know a thing or two.
I will tell you most definitely that no newspaper is going to print two different editions. That's ludicrous and not cost effective. And most newspapers these days are run like charities.

Okay, jfanent, I have a question. What don't you like about what the newspaper did? Is it they put the races of the people involved and then changed it for the other article, is that it? Or is it they put the races of the people involved in the first article, you don't like that they did that, then changed it for the other article, and you don't like that either? Or is it something else? I'm confused. Sorry, I'm 52 and not as sharp as I used to be. And as I like to say, I wasn't that sharp to begin with. w/b

They included the racial stuff in the papers delivered to the inner city, and took it out for those in the burbs. It was no coincidence. They posted a video on their website of a "bystander" lying through his teeth about what happened. Things got pretty ugly downtown because of that, until leaders in the AA community and some Buffalo Soldiers were able to calm things down as the police released the video. Those "reporters" were down there like kids in a candy store waiting for some trouble to brew to get a story....and they almost got their wish. So, pit thinks I'm a snowflake for getting worked up over this. Nice. We've had riots in Toledo, they ain't pretty.

From the article: That dream was cut short when Mr. Richardson, 25, was shot and killed Friday by a Toledo police officer at Hudson and Lagrange Streets in North Toledo. What a bunch of hooey. What dream?

Wish I could read them....I've reached my monthly limit of free Blade articles. I'm not paying that rag a dime for anything. After shooting, Lamar Richardson's family remembers his life, expresses frustration ByMark Rosenberg | BLADE STAFF WRITERPublished on July 29, 2018 Lamar Richardson used to say nobody dreams anymore. But Mr. Richardson dreamed big. He wanted to start an auto repair business. When he was a child, he took apart toy cars and put them back together. After graduating from Troy High School, two hours south of Toledo, he transferred an engine into his car, and worked for a year selling and washing cars at a Troy auto shop, family members said. RELATED: Blade apologizes: ‘Mistakes were made’ That dream was cut short when Mr. Richardson, 25, was shot and killed Friday by a Toledo police officer at Hudson and Lagrange Streets in North Toledo. “He was my treasure child,” said Alfreada Radford Tucker, 67, Mr. Richardson’s grandmother. Ms. Tucker’s voice grew hoarse as she reflected on her grandson’s life, sitting on the big red couch in the living room of the Toledo home where she has lived for the last 27 years. “I’m still waiting for my grandson to come through that door.” Officers fired at Mr. Richardson after he produced a weapon, Lt. Kevan Toney, a police spokesman, said Friday. He was identified as a person of interest in multiple convenience store robberies. Family members described Mr. Richardson as a kindhearted person who, prior to the shooting that day, ran into a family member at a store and gave her candy to take home for her children. He loved to play basketball and cook — especially fried chicken and potatoes. He was “no stranger to God,” Ms. Tucker said; he attended Christian Community Church in Toledo not long ago, and his favorite lesson from scripture was “paying homage.” They called him “La.” Mr. Richardson and his twin younger brothers, Tre’Von and Cle’Von, both 24, had a difficult childhood, the family said. At age 12, after his mother had passed away, a judge put the three boys in the custody of their father. “He had serious mental health issues,” Tre’Von said about his brother on Saturday. “[Police are] not saying that. They made it seem like he wasn’t educated, like he didn’t graduate.” During the five years the boys lived with their father, Mr. Richardson developed bipolar disorder, post-traumatic stress disorder, and oppositional defiant disorder, said Ms. Tucker, who has worked with the National Alliance on Mental Illness. She said she never saw her three grandsons in the time they spent with their father. Mr. Richardson spent time at a mental health services center in Toledo, Tre’Von said. He was taking risperdal — an antipsychotic medication — but later switched off his medication and went without it for “three or four months.” For the past three years, Mr. Richardson slept in trucks, buildings, and basements, and sometimes at family members’ homes, Ms. Tucker said. Tre’Von said he knew Mr. Richardson needed his medication in the months leading up to the shooting, and often found it difficult to sleep at all. Lamarrichardsonfamily-3 From left to right: C.J. Kulwicki, 23, cousin, Alfreada Radford Tucker, 67, grandmother, and Tre'Von Richardson, 24, brother, console each other as they talk about their family member, Lamar Richardson. THE BLADE/SAMANTHA MADAR Enlarge | Buy This Image “He just didn’t want to bring his family into what he’s got going on,” said his cousin, C.J. Kulwicki, 23. Ms. Tucker was upstairs in her home early Friday evening when her daughter-in-law ran upstairs and told her Mr. Richardson had been shot. She said she ran to the scene, about a mile away, and asked to see her grandson as he was being wrapped in a body bag on a gurney. “I saw his head,” she said. “There was a big bullet hole on the side of his temple. I was not allowed anything else.” The minute-and-a-half-long dash cam video of the shooting, released by Toledo Police on Friday, disturbed Ms. Tucker. She said she once worked for the Brownsville, Tenn. police department, used to hand out Halloween candy to officers in Toledo, and added she has reached out to local police for help in the past. She said she found Friday’s shooting “disappointing.” “I saw him run. I saw him stop,” she said. “This was a very troubled, broken-spirited young man.” Lamarrichardsonfamily-2 Tre'Von Richardson, 24, shows a recent photo of his brother Lamar Richardson Toledo on Saturday, July 28, 2018. THE BLADE/SAMANTHA MADAR Enlarge | Buy This Image Tre’Von said he believes police fired more shots that necessary, and wished Mr. Richardson had been indicted instead. The department estimated Friday that five shots were fired, but could not confirm that number. Dr. Maneesha Pandey, a Lucas County deputy coroner, said Saturday Mr. Richardson was shot three times and died of a gunshot wound to the left front of his head. He also had bullet wounds to his forearm and his right foot. “This is my big brother,” Tre’Von said. “I just had talked to him. I just got to shed some light on this.” Gerald Rose, an Atlanta-based activist who is working with Mr. Richardson’s family, said he plans to hold a press conference about the shooting Aug. 10 in Toledo. Toledo Police could not immediately be reached for comment Saturday evening.

You are convincing me to alter my vote. Just not in the way you desire. No that's the point of capitalism. The point of socialism is to unite the workers to ascertain better working rights and more money. The point of communism is to have the workers seize the means of production and share in the communal work and wealth.

Public Education You, your children, you family, or someone you know has participated in this socialist institution. Not surprisingly, the ancestors of the same nuts crying foul today were doing the same thing when government-funded school were first proposed. Police, Fire, and Emergency Services Next time you get robbed, your house is on fire, or you need other emergency services, be sure to turn them away because you hate socialism. The US Postal Service It’s pretty nice to be able to send and receive mail every day (except Sunday) wherever you are in the country. “Neither snow nor rain nor heat nor gloom of night stays these couriers from the swift completion of their appointed rounds.” Medicare, Medicaid My absolute favorite of the right-wing protesters are the ones who don’t want socialized medicine, but insist that the government not interfere with their Medicare and/or Medicaid. Ignorance is just too gentle of a word. Public Subways, Metro Systems, Buses, and Light Rails Millions of people in our nations cities use these socialist methods of transportation to get to work, go shopping, or just get around town. Sidewalks, Roads, & Highways Sure, not every street in the country is in the best condition, but they wouldn’t even be paved at all if the government didn’t provide them as a service to all of its people. Public Parks, Beaches, and Zoos Who doesn’t enjoy a stroll in the park, relaxing on the beach, or seeing monkeys fling poo at the zoo? No one, that’s who. If it weren’t a national park protected and funded by the government, the Grand Canyon would probably already be the Grand Landfill. Public Museums, Public Libraries These fun and educational institutions are a vital part to any decent city. Their enjoyment can be shared by everyone because of their “socialist” government funding. S-CHIP and other state-run insurance programs I’m not sure how, but the Glen Becks and Rush Limbaughs of the world have managed to convince their listeners that health insurance for children is a bad thing. Social Security I’m skeptical that I’ll ever see a dime of the money that gets taken out of my pay check to pay the social security of others, but this New Deal program was a vital part of recovery from the great depression. It’s even got “social” right in the title! https://www.linkedin.com/pulse/socialist-programs-america-gary-susichyou heard it here first. Vers hates all those socialist programs that have been implemented here in America.

What do you want me to tell you when you're wrong? Unlike a lot of these fools who hate PC culture, I'm good at respecting the rules of non-traditional word games.
Also do you work hard? You covered in sweat after a shift? Your legs and back hurt non stop? Do you meet or exceed any time quotas put on you?
I've seen hard work and it doesn't involve an ergonomic office chair.
I also didn't compare you to Manson. All I said was Manson also took the Beatles lyrics seriously.

you can say I was "wrong," but that is just an opinion. There was no need for such a mean-spirited attack.
I'll be frank. I have supported minorities for decades. I stand up for y'all all the time. And when I try to make a point about how society overlooks the good acts of minorities and concentrates on the controversial acts of the same group in an effort to support minorities, only to have you and Swish question my ethics..............well, it hurts.
I feel betrayed.
And I just opened myself up to more ridicule from guys like jfan, arch, WSU, Memphis, etc
Well done, fellas.
But, please understand this.........what you two just pulled last night really disturbed me. I'm upset and disenchanted. If that was your goal.......you succeeded.
