Bro I'm not 100% sure on this but i think the hotel room might fall under the fair housing act. If so it would be a bad analogy.

But let's say you are a running a Dick's sporting goods and decide not to sell guns to 20 year olds; apparently that is now legal. And your second part about custom work I know is accurate because I do that myself when taking programming jobs, mostly because people are not that well informed about the amount of work it takes to create the next big thing...

So one could effectively make the argument that we should all be able to refuse services to who ever we want for whatever reason or no reason at all.

The exception would be the outright breaking of another law while refusing service. I don't think you can refuse to make a meal for someone because they are black for instance, anti Jim Crow laws ended that. But you can refuse service to the same black person for not having a shirt on or shoes... It's all so damn convoluted it's not funny. Now religious 'freedoms' is a thing too.

I guess we'll all just desegregate and form tribal communities soon. You will have Gay White Atheist Cleveland, Straight White Christian Cleveland, Straight Black Muslim Cleveland, Straight Black Christian Cleveland... utter absurdity.

Swish probably has the best approach, just treat people like they treat you.

Quoting Swish:
Quote:
For example. I have little, if any, tolerance for people who discriminate against the LBGT community.

But for some religious people, they don’t have a tolerance for LBGT at all.

So who’s right? The people who place equality and civil rights over religious beliefs, or the people who place religious beliefs over equality and civil rights?

This is more or less the point I was driving at. I'll take it a step further and muddy the waters a little more. Is it ok to be intolerant of:

NFL players who kneel
Republicans/Democrats in general
People on either side of abortion, even when religion is not used as a motive
Capitalists
Vegetarians

*I don't particularly wish to turn this thread into a discussion of of these topics any further than what is necessary.

The generally accepted extremes are easier, but the spectrum is broad. Can we ever really determine who is right on some of these?

Quoting PDF:
Quote:
It's pretty straightforward.

We can dabble in moral relativism, but we sleep at night with our choices or we don't.

So at the end of the day, we make a choice based on our beliefs of what to be intolerant of. I stand firm that this is subjective.

The people on the other side are using the same exact logic and coming to the same outcome - to be intolerant. And when that happens, closed mindedness follows. How should we expect to accomplish anything at that point if we have already decided the other side is dead wrong?

Again, not talking about the extremes here.

Quote:
You're making my point for me.

The "oh, is Donald Trump racist? Prove it!" people deserve intolerance.

We should mock them and be intolerant of them.

I'll respectfully disagree here. I'm not one to dwell on the past, but the infamous "deplorables" comment was not a display of tolerance in my opinion. My choice is to try to listen to the counterpoint to see if there is merit to it, especially when the counterpoint has been misrepresented/twisted/selectively written by the media. And I am not referring to Trump specifically here, but in general.

Quote:
You voted for Trump for 1 of 3 reasons:

1) You're a spiteful idiot

2) "Not Hillary"/means to an end by way of a useful idiot

3) you got fed up and wanted to throw a brick through the window

I am not sure if the "you" here is addressed specifically to me or the general population. Not necessarily saying you're wrong overall, but #1 in particular is tricky.

I'll reveal a bit more about myself to further the discussion. General disclaimer (not to you specifically PDF): I expect that any information would be used for conversation and NOT a "gotcha" moment (you voted for ______, you must be a ______).

I did not vote for Trump.

I do not consider myself to be Democrat or Republican. Depends on the issue or candidate.

Surprising even myself, I voted for Bernie Sanders. I am aware he was not on the ticket in Ohio. I am aware people may say that is a wasted vote. I do not feel that way.

I am a Christian, but I am not immediately intolerant of other religions, values, beliefs, or groups simply because they think differently or are not Christian. I hope at least a small portion of that has come through in my posting. I admit to not always being this way and to also being guilty of relapse from time to time.

This has been a great conversation so far. My hope is that none of my reply is taken as a "gotcha" moment because that is not the intent. I appreciate the replies from both you and Swish here.

Mr. Sessions....It’s called the 1st amendment. Already protected by law. Unless you foresee that the freedom of speech is going to stripped from the 1st ammedment you waste your time.

Let's just stop that crap. God isn't going to lower the hammer because of politics. He, She, It is going to lower the hammer because you weren't a good person with a good heart.

There is it.. Exactly correct.. If you follow the Bible, you'll see the path. And believe me, using the Bible to hurt anyone is not what was intended.. I'm convinced of that.

SO, Do right by your fellow man/woman and you'll be fine.

Covered this in the other thread almost identical.

Leftists: We are perfectly allowed to refuse service to right wingers for any reason.

So if NFL players simply say it’s for religious reasons and beliefs that they take a knee during the National Anthem then the NFL can’t touch them legally with any punishments.

Ok then, let’s get this going.
