I for one am growing sick of him. I have been in his corner up to this point, but I am tired of the whole thing.
I follow him on social media, and he looks fit and healthy. I don't believe he is on drugs anymore, but this "time away" thing is wearing on me. If you can train daily and post pictures of yourself, and you are not in rehab, then what the hell is the problem. I understand anxiety, my wife deals with it and it can be disabling. To me I think he is pushing this to a different level.
I say show up and perform, or just fade away into the night. done with this whole thing.
I always thought it was a way for his management to get more airtime on Hard Knocks. His manager loves trying to craft a narrative for Josh. The GQ article was so hard to read. Unfortunately his manager sounds like one of those mommy managers, who are connected to their client at the umbilical cord. The manager lives with Josh and helps keep him on the straight and narrow, but he seems like an overbearing arse clown who always has a hand in Josh's wallet.
Yes, its magnanimous as hell of the Browns to say "Oh, don't worry about those silly rules. We're not going to hold you to them.". But I'm not sure that the rules are discretionary.
The whole situation is really weird and I've never seen anything like it.

Yeah, I don't get the feeling that the team has the choice of waving something spelled out in the CBA regarding accrued seasons for a player.
So, given that, they must be preparing a long-term contract.
Browns is the Browns
... there goes Joe Thomas, the best there ever was in this game.
To prevent WR Josh Gordon from losing an accrued season toward free agency while he’s tending to his health, the #Browns are expected to move him from the “did not report” list to the roster by tomorrow, source said. Then, they’ll place him on a reserve list (NFI) until he shows.
The thing is, if they could have done that, why was he moved to the "did not report list" in the first place? At first they had him on the "non football injury list".
As was mentioned above. The longer this thing goes on, the stranger it looks.
Intoducing for The Cleveland Browns, Quarterback Deshawn "The Predator" Watson. He will also be the one to choose your next head coach.
They cleared a roster spot by doing things as they did. They must feel that the 90th spot is no longer that important.

I totally support this move and applaud the Browns for such a smart move.
This means that Josh Gordon could potentially leave the Browns after next season in restricted free agency, more likely the season thereafter in full free agency. Anything that gets Gordon out of Cleveland faster is a good thing. Jump off the Josh Gordon Drama Train!
Of course, if the Browns were a real football organization with a shred of pride, they would cut a lollygagger like Gordon for jerking them around time after time after time after time. But the Browns are like a desperate, pathetic, clingy ex-girlfriend when it comes to Gordon. So he'll just have to leave on his own terms when free agency finally rolls around.

Why would they do anything to help him when he has done nothing to help us?
Yeah, I don't get that either .... but they know him, and the circumstances that surround him, better than we do.

We scratch your back, you scratch ours. I don't think you want his time in Cleveland to feel like prison sentence especially if you're considering keeping him around.
Yeah we can't screw him out of his contract twice lol Dude is already gonna be a UFA at 29. He's still playing on his rookie deal. I think it might be less since he was a supplemental pick. Ouch. Weed has cost this man so much, I really hope he has turned a corner on this.
Codeine, alcohol and weed were j ust what he got busted for. Highly likely since he was spending so much time with Manziel is was mushrooms, cocaine and X as well.
Yeah Gordon was pretty much doing everything from what I understand.
I wouldn't be surprised if Dorsey is moving Gordon back to the roster because he knows that Gordon wants a new contract. He doesn't have to do this but is in good faith that Josh reports and produces this year.

The Browns never screwed him on his contract. You must be referring to the time when Gordon went on a bender with Johnny Manziel, skipped the walkthrough on the day before the final game of the season, and got himself rightfully suspended for that game. Add that to the 10 game suspension earlier that season and he was gone 11 games. He screwed himself.
Yeah, didn't he admit to cocaine, as well as other drugs?

I don't know the details of Gordon's contract but I feel his days with the Browns are about over. I think that is why they got Jarvis from Miami. If Gordon got into trouble again they could afford to release him.

780,000$ this year as an ERFA. I think that means Exclusive Rights Free Agent. Means he can only play for us, and that's his compensation.
Then next year we have the option to tag him as a Restricted Free Agent. That means if a team wants him, they have to give us compensation for him. I don't think you can tender a player at a pick less than they were drafted though. So it'd have to be a 2nd or 1st.
2nd round 2018 is 2.9 million. 1st round is 4.1 million.
He's pretty much playing on the best deal that a team could ask for, besides these first round QBs, playing on a rookie deal for 5 years. It'd be the dumbest thing for a team to cut Josh Gordon. You would also be doing a disservice to all the other teams, by turning him into a UFA if everyone waives on him.

I don't see that, at all. What I see is that Landry is the perfect guy to be opposite a guy like Gordon. They multiply each other, and that extends to whomever else is out there in 3-WR sets. Defenses potentially need to double BOTH of them.

Agreed. I see the ole' Chudzinski three-headed monster. (Braylon, Winslow, Lewis)
Gordon to take the top off the defense, Landry working underneath, and a solid running attack to keep them honest.
Having a number 1 threat who demands high safety help really is a luxury. It makes everything for everyone else easier.
Gordon is the perfect match for Landry. That's why when I was more worried about him coming back, i tried to come up with someone who could fill that take the top off role. Ratley was all i could come up with. Not someone to count on either.
Looking at both Landry and Gordon over the past four seasons, Gordon isn't our #1 WR. Landry is. At some point you have to expect a player to earn that status. Landry has. Gordon hasn't.

In what way (other than to you apparently) is he a distraction?
Sure - it would be better if JG was a model citizen. Clean record. Went cold turkey and quit - heck better yet never had any issues. . . . It would be better if he was in camp getting reps and working with TT and BM .... Yep. For sure.
but the reality is JG is a flawed human who is trying to overcome his addictions and issues. He's got a ridiculous amount of athletic and football talent and the Browns are helping him through his issues while also hoping to benefit from it on the other side of it.
His team mates all support him (I've not heard a single negative comment) and his coach and FO are supporting him. . . Yes less than ideal but where is the distraction? Unless you're simply referring to uptight fans who for whatever reason want to pass judgement on others in the harshest of terms.
The more things change the more they stay the same.
I'm hoping for Josh to come back, but him missing time is a distraction. The look on the coaches faces when Hue informed them that Josh was going to not be there at camp said a lot. Also, Dorsey, Hue, and certain players have had to answer a ton of questions about Josh, rather than football questions.
I really want to believe in Josh Gordon, the responsible person, but he's made it so hard. I wouldn't cut him ever, but I'd fine him or cut his salary for non-availability. Our society astounds me in lots of ways- lots of football players make more money in one game than many Americans paying for seat make in ten years. Kennedy said, Life ain't fair....it sure isn't. All the money spent on Josh Gordon and his athletic ability would help how many normal people.....Anyway, who cares.....GO Browns!!!
"You've never lived till you've almost died, life has a flavor the protected will never know" A vet or cop
That's all fair ... but is the distraction at the point where you cut him or trade him for nothing? I don't believe so. When the team took the decision to stand by and help JG - do you think they all thought it would be plain sailing? Yes it's not great - in the grand scheme of things I don't think it outweighs the benefit to the team if he comes back strong. Add to that - there is the element of helping him as an individual and simply trying to do the right thing for an addict battling demons.
The more things change the more they stay the same.
I don't think I'd go as far as wanting to believe in him one way or another. Firstly I hope he beats his demons so he can become the best version of Josh Gordon he can be. I'd hope after his trials and tribulations that if he cashes in and stays cleans he could be a leading light and help for other addicts fighting their demons.
As a Browns fan I hope he comes back and helps the team - he's an elite talent. But if he gets clean and leaves the Browns I will still be happiest that he beat the addictions.
The more things change the more they stay the same.
