I've never used discord. Why should I use it instead of the gameday chat on dawgtalkers? Is it the same thing linked into a larger network of Brown's fans? Do I have to download an app?

It must be legit if the big boss is pointing us that way,but I don't understan d why. I would rather have a give and take with a couple of guys from this site than be lumped in with every Brown's website a en masse. I know the dawg's here are born and raised don't know about other locales where perhaps being edgy is the cool thing and newest in new.

I like the gameday thread we have because everyone knows each other

The history of it is...
1) This site used to have a built-in chat feature. There were some site issues a few years back (remembering maybe 2013-2014?) and the feature was removed.
2) There were a handful of us (10-12) who used the chat during game day for a few reasons (preference, quick chat type responses, etc)
3) When the feature was removed we explored different chats for about 3 years until we landed on discord, some were limited to 10 people, some were filled with ad-bloat, discord was the first that was free, widely used and could be used via an APP or your browser (last night I did both).
With all of that being said, the chat isn't a required portion of the site, some of us just prefer it and have used it for nearly a decade. I will look into locking it down further, but it is only meant for DawgTalkers members. That doesn't mean others couldn't show up, but to my knowledge they haven't yet. I also posted in the game day chat last night along with the live chat, so they aren't exclusive. The chat is really just a small community within our community here (that we've been trying to grow back up!)

This Discord option has replaced the now-dead former chat option we had here. It turned out that there were site security issues with the old chat software, so it was disabled & removed. Discord is the first thing to come along that is freely available and meets our needs. This does NOT "lump us in with everyone else", this is the DawgTalkers' chat only and not linked in any way with any larger network of Browns fans.
