I'm on time warners side in this one....Big Ten network and NFL network can suck it....it's one thing if they want to make it optional...but forcing time warner to make it part of their basic package in turn running up the price of basic cable? that is insane..i would never pay 40 bucks for 30 channels thats jus not worth it

I can name a bunch of channels that I'd bump, but my opinion doesn't agree with everybody else's. Also, a lot of those channels don't cost the cable companies what BTN wants to charge them each month. I'm enough of a sports fan that I wouldn't mind paying extra for BTN (even though I'm not a Buckeye fan), but I completely get why a lot of people wouldn't want to see their prices jump $2/month for that network.

Why is Big Ten and NFL network the bad guys in this?

If Directv can give it to their customers for free why can't TW?

The more I hear of the Big 10 channel, the less I'm liking it.

Soon, there's going to be other conferences to follow in their footsteps if the channel succeeds. Do I want a PAC 10 channel? No, not really. I'll watch what they give me, there's plenty of football on Saturdays.

And because of the stupid channel, I miss out on the game Saturday, and many more this year. I was seeing the Buckeyes just fine before the Big 10 Network.

Screw Time Warner in this case.

It's the same deal with the NFL Network. NFL Network and Big Ten Network want their channel on basic cable while Time Warner wants to charge you extra to have it on a sports tier.

I can name 50 channels on basic cable that I'd bump off of basic to replace it with NFL Network and Big Ten.

My cable bill for my apartment is gonna suck when all I really want is the locals, the HD channels, STO, FSN Ohio, TBS, Comedy Central and USA.

It ain't like NFL Network at all.

I can watch the Browns without NFL Network. The only time they'll be on is if they get one of their games on after Thanksgiving on their broadcasts.

I can NOT watch the Buckeyes every week without the Big Ten Network.

Sure, there's plenty of crap on basic cable I'd bump off, but the reality is cable companies don't want to do so. So I'm therefore forced to a bar to watch their games. And I ain't bringing my 1 year old to a bar if I am watching her, so I guess I have to check Sportscenter for the highlights.

What if the SEC, PAC 10, WAC, ACC all want their own network?

Do you honestly think they're going to bump off channel after channel to get these stations on there? Hell no. Like I said, there's plenty of football on during the weekends on TV, I don't need another station that's going to cause problems in getting me to watch my team.

And I can give a spit about the other programming that will probably be on. Like Minnesota vs. Iowa volleyball. Yeah!

From what i understand Time Warner doesn't want to include it in it's basic package...BIG TEN channel and NFL network both want to charge regardless of where it's included but they want it in the basic package....

If i'm wrong please correct me...and if this is right then it would only make sense to protest this, otherwise u would be paying out of ur u kno wht jus for basic cable...which ain't right

DirecTV is a partner in the Big Ten Network. Tell me what motivation they have to cut a bargain to put it on cable. Likewise, Time Warner is a partner in STO and DirecTV doesn't carry STO in all of the Indians area. If you have exclusive rights (or near it) to something, it doesn't make sense to make it readily available to other outlets.

Another reason to not like it.

I'll stick with going to the bar.

I don't always have the opportunity to go to the bar for games. The big games I'll make sure I get to 'em, but I can't always leave with a kid. My family babysits enough when we work, and I can't ask every weekend to watch her to sit at a bar.

log already mentioned the partnership....at a 49% stake, I believe.

DirectTV isn't giving anything. It's a profit venture that also gives them one-upmanship on their competition.

BTN comes knocking on TW's door with DTV on the flip side of their cap and wants cash for their product, but only if TW doesn't directly attempt to make a profit? I would imagine the only way that TW profits is with some type of across the board rate raise and then risk losing market share.

If BTN makes money, it's win / win for DTV.

Btw, despite the fact that I have said I wasn't considering satellite, I am looking at Dish Network. The bundles that AT&T is offering can prove to be affordable enough to reconsider. I see that NFL Network is available. Any word on BTN (I haven't checked)?
