Oh those Socialists... Ocasio-Cortez bans press from covering campaign eventAlexandria Ocasio-Cortez, the Democratic socialist star running for New York's 14th congressional district, is facing criticism after her campaign banned journalists from covering a town hall meeting with voters this week. The Queens Chronicle, a local news outlet, reported that the campaign for the 28-year-old progressive prevented reporters from attending a campaign event in Corona on Sunday, even though it was open to the rest of the public. The campaign reportedly barred reporters from a prior event as well. Ocasio-Cortez returned to her district after stumping for like-minded candidates across the country, even joining up with Vermont Sen. Bernie Sanders. She became an overnight political sensation and a sought-after endorsement on the left upon defeating longtime Rep. Joe Crowley in New York’s Democratic primary in June. Her campaign did not immediately return a request for comment about the ban from Fox News. But a spokesman told the Queens Chronicle all the national attention contributed to the decision to prevent reporters from covering the event. “We wanted to help create a space where community members felt comfortable and open to express themselves without the distraction of cameras and press. These were the first set of events where the press has been excluded,” campaign spokesman Corbin Trent said. “This is an outlier and will not be the norm. We’re still adjusting our logistics to fit Alexandria’s national profile.” The explanation, though, did not satisfy reporters. Seung Min Kim, a Washington Post reporter, tweeted that Ocasio-Cortez “is in for a rough time on Capitol Hill -- where reporters roam freely at all hours of the day and night -- if this is her attitude toward the press.” http://www.foxnews.com/politics/2018/08/...aign-event.html

Well if you wish to say nasty or racist things it much better not having anyone there to report it.

Trump's having a Private State dinner tomorrow night in Columbus. No press will be at the dinner. I don't see what the big deal is. As long as public record is being kept. I don't know why Fox News wants to cover her town hall so badly. That seems like a weird obsession to me.

Yeah, on one hand it's a time for a local congress person to talk to their constituents about problems in their district. The other one is when a President (in this case), creates a day for his donor class to listen to him and ask him some questions. It boggles my mind that the media only cares about one of these events.

Haven't you seen my post to Rocky? Does I look like a man who is impressed by anything a person from connecticut could possibly do? I won't even capitalize their name, that's how much contempt I have for that state and it's citizens (sorry Petey).

So let me see here.......
One is someone running for office. The other one is the elected leader of the free world and you don't see the difference?

No politician opens themselves up to the press. It's very rare that Town Halls are covered. Then again there's not too many democratic socialists in congress. It's fine for the press to take an interest in her. However, when they load 40 people into a town hall and then spend the end of it trying to pester her with questions, you need to draw a line and put constituents first as a leader. No one did it to any of the congressmen who have used their town hall as a spring board for their Presidency/policy.

I'm not 100% sure so I'll tell you what I remember. Sometimes you have $$$ per plate closed dinners. Those are not done in a public setting and are big money events.
Then you have campaign events held in arenas, at fairs that are nothing more than campaign rallies. Firstly, I never recall a president having campaign rallies for the entire four years of their presidency. Trump has had many such rallies ever since he was elected. The American tax payer foots the bill for all of them. I have seen presidents do it for the last couple of years they were in office, but not several times over their entire term.
Sort of like promoting a new branch of the military, ( Star Force ) then having his campaign sell merchandise for it. Just sad.
So yes, when it comes to campaign rallies I never recall a president blocking access to the press. We're footing the bill for those rallies.
However, when someone isn't elected and we aren't paying the bill for it, I don't feel we have "the right" to expect the same.
Now for the record I don't think she should block any of the press. I think that's in poor taste. In the same breath I think it's in very poor taste for a president to publicly chastise the press making them a target live at his rallies. But then again I've never accused the man of ever having taste.

A Town hall is meet with your constituents, and have a back and forth to them. Its also to give information to them. Not all can attend a town hall due to work schedules and family obligations, so having the press cover it, they can look up the information readily and get any answers they maybe looking for. Town halls are absolutely covered by the press, heck the press even coordinates them at times.
I have been to about 5 or 6, all were covered by some type of press either locally, or big networks depending on the person holding it. That's just false

So what? It’s her campaign and she banned all the media. Her right to do so. It’s not like she banned just one or two media outlets. Actually I think it a good idea at this point in her campaign. I’m sure she’ll have events during her campaign opened to the press.

What type of press are we talking about? Are we talking about the big 3 TV news networks? And how did the media cover the event? How big was the room? Not a place you can get set too many cameras up. https://www.ozarksfirst.com/news/chamber...rity/1375122384The Governor of Missouri had a "listening tour", the same thing AOC is having and had no media members in attendance. https://www.ozarksfirst.com/news/chamber...rity/1375122384You really think the bylines you read on Fox News gives the press enough money to cover every single politician? Like I said before, there are much more important town halls, those are usually called 'town halls' and not 'listening tours'. Also, you can see most of what was said on twitter. How's that for FREEdom of the press? Isn't that what we all want in the end? Our press to be free and easy? Let me listen to it. Let me sit through commercials. Let me never support my local press and rarely read an article over 4 paragraphs. Not saying you do this. But Americans do as a whole, absolutely. It's also not a left vs. right thing, they both do it equally.

From what is being reported, all press was banned. if they let in the little networks but tell the big guys no, I would be ok with it. But I think SOME press should be allowed in.
Twitter is not the press. in fact Twitter and facebook have fought feverously not to be labeled a press outlet, because they then could be held libel.
I have been to local town halls where the "gigantic" observer reporter of Washington county was there. I have been to a few where the big guys were there.
In both cases, the press was there.

And have you been to a listening tour? Also you never answered the appropriate question: how did the press behave? http://www.qchron.com/editions/queenswid...1dd76e1191.htmlBut when Ocasio-Cortez returned to the district for a Bronx community meeting with prominent healthcare activist Ady Barkan last Tuesday, her campaign manager, Vigie Ramos Rios, later told the Chronicle, she was “mobbed” by reporters, “even though we said no Q&A and no one-on-one [interviews].” According to Ramos Rios and campaign spokesman Corbin Trent, that unwanted attention led to a press ban both for last Wednesday’s listening tour stop in the Bronx and Sunday’s in Corona. “We wanted to help create a space where community members felt comfortable and open to express themselves without the distraction of cameras and press. These were the first set of events where the press has been excluded,” Trent said. “This is an outlier and will not be the norm. We’re still adjusting our logistics to fit Alexandria’s national profile.” Since Fox would never post both sides of a story, here's AOC's team speaking about it.

Why are you people bringing race into play? I asked about socialists? Because fascism is directly related to socialism. Think of them as the two ends of our political pendulum.

Looks like good old fashioned capitalism to me. Of course, that means I have a problem with it, but I'm not sure why a Con would.
