After watching this it reminded me...wow Kiser was inaccurate. On many of his passes you can see how off balance he was during his release. Leaning back. Not stepping into throws. Not for any reason other than bad mechanics. The Greenbay coaching staff has their work cut out for them. He’s got tools. He’s young. But man he was bad last year.
He left two TDs on the field with horrible passes to Gordon just in the chargers game alone.

I don't pay much attention to who starts. It's about who plays and when they play.
In hockey you have starters and then 2nd and 3rd line players. Each line has to be pretty darn good. You also have your penalty kill lines. If the coach has you on the #1 penalty kill line, he thinks you are a pretty darn good defender who can cover space and play a box D as well as anyone.
Embrace your role and chances and go with it...
If everybody had like minds, we would never learn.
I can't remember the last time I bashed Hue, bub. As a matter of fact, the last time I posted about Hue it was positive. Now why don't you go ask if Gordon practiced again. (I really don't know if he did).
And into the forest I go, to lose my mind and find my soul. - John Muir
Didn't say you bashed Hue. I was asking if you were going to re-post that "practice" thing to the guys all upset because Hue is giving guys scheduled days off?
I really like Josh. He's well-spoken, articulate and seems pretty honest with his answers. Certainly a tough press conference for someone, being confronted with his issues, but he handles it really well.
I think what I enjoyed seeing most was Gordon praising the team and his team mates; No matter how you feel about Gordon, it's a high-point for our team to showcase their willingness to stand by a player and offer them such support. I like the idea of the Browns building a positive reputation in that aspect. Great for potential free agents and draft selections. I'd hate to be a team known for throwing guys under the bus at their lowest. That's not a team. That's not a family. That's a company and an asset.
I'm rooting for the kid. It's nice to have him back and see him in high spirits. Hopefully, moving forward, the off-field troubles are outshined by what he's capable of on the field.
I also like that Hue has tempered expectations. Josh is a freak, but it's unrealistic to think he can step back in without shaking off the rust. Holding him back for the preseason, and already saying he'll be limited as the regular season begins, is a good move. Ease Gordon back in slowly without throwing him in the deep end.
With that said, I really want to see him spanking Joe Haden. Haden, as wonderful as he's been, has always struggled with speed. Gordon and Callaway should feast. He might not start, but he'll get plenty of reps.
Josh Alle...I mean Kizer really was an inaccurate QB. But I must admit that TD vs. Green Bay on a skinny post to Gordon was a beautiful pass maybe his best ever. But just a note, throws accurate up the middle is not unusual. It all those outside passes. Btw, when should we starting writing to the NFL on all the PASS INTERFERENCE CALLS not given to us and its already happening to us this year looking back to those corner fades by Landry vs. Eagles.
Got to love Gordon, hope he works a lot with Mayfield with the 2's so they can get a feel for each other. Just in case TT gets nicked and Mayfield comes in...so would Gordon and they would have a thing together...imagine accurate throws to Gordon??? Oh man oh man!

Good post, but I don't think Haden struggles w/speed. He handles AJ Green just fine. He struggles w/guys who are quicker in and out of their routes.
I would try and isolate Landry on Joe, if I were the OC, and let Josh burn the other corner over the top.
I was going to leave this because it seemed a little off topic: More appropriate for a Steelers thread than a Gordon thread. But given the Steelers are now our next game, we're probably free to touch it.
I will say that A.J Green is a poor example. He ran a 4.50 at the combine. He's never been a burner, but has always been an exceptional route runner with elite contested ability and hands. I wouldn't define him as a speed guy: much more a possession receiver.
I don't disagree, however. I didn't mean pure, straight-line, deep speed. Overall speed, including receivers getting in and out of their breaks, has been Haden's foot in the grave. Antonio Brown is a cheap example, but the best one: I also remember Cecil Shorts III waxing that ass.
I disagree that Haden isn't vulnerable deep. The Browns wanted him out because he got burned deep all preseason, and we saw in the finale last year just how easy Gordon can get behind Joe Haden on a near-TE from a beautiful pass from Kizer - and that was with safety help.
I don't like the idea of isolating him on Landry. I like the idea of using plenty of Gordon/Callaway outside and deep, while teams have to account for Landry, Njoku and Duke Johnson underneath. Any of those thee can draw a mismatch, and teams can't let them feast forever - and all of them I trust to get deep from the interior - Landry and Njoku on the deep seam or corner are always threats.
I'm not one of those guys who thinks Landry is limited, but I don't understand why the Browns would use him outside. He's the best slot receiver in the game, he's a nightmare to cover with an intimidating target-to-catch ratio to show for it. His strength is working underneath and finding space: Too quick for linebackers, too talented for most nickels to contain.
You add Njoku and Johnson to that, while two burners stationed outside, and it's a headache trying to contain them. Especially when Gordon doesn't need to be wide open to be open.
I say let them do what they do best. They're all going to be used all over, anyway, I see opportunities when our talent can strip away deep attention.
Haden was never the same after the second surgery he had. He's still good enough in zones, but he doesn't have the agility to hang with more complicated routes. Personally, I put Gordon on him and have Gordon run underneath routes (Tyrod doesn't really air it out like that. At the end of the day you just need to get him the ball, it doesn't need it to be deep to take it to the house).
--Keeping Landry in the slot exclusively is not smart. It would be best to move him around and try to exploit favorable match-ups. This would include occasionally lining him up in the backfield.
--Pointing to AJ Green's 40 time is wrong because anyone w/eyes can see that AJ beats corners deep regularly.
--Him saying my example of Antonio Brown was cheap is also wrong. I used AB as an example because it is well known that Joe struggled w/smaller quicker receivers and did better against bigger receivers who weren't precise route runners.
--All of the above leads me to conclude that Landry vs Joe would be a favorable match-up for us.

I think you've got my post entirely wrong.
- I never said use Landry EXCLUSIVELY in the slot, and the final sentence in my post referenced that these guys will be moved all over. I just think he should take the majority of his reps there. I have no problem splitting him out wide, but he's more experienced in the slot than Gordon and Callaway, so I like the idea of putting everyone in familiar situations - especially in the slot where I love Landry's hands, ability in traffic, ability to find space on broken plays and his blocking. The guy doesn't need to take all reps there, but he's a stud there.
- Of course A.J Green can get open deep. There is no wide receiver in the NFL who lacks the wheels to stretch the field to some extent - none - you don't get to the NFL by being slow. But A.J Green has never had elite speed. He's just not an example of being a receiver who uses his speed. He's a big possession receiver who often gets open deep using double moves and slick route running. Of course, he can still just run past guys, but let's not treat him like a 4.30 guy.
- I didn't say your example of AB was cheap. Didn't even see you used him as an example. I said mine was cheap, but only because AB is one of the best in the league so I felt bad using him as an example of Haden getting burned - which is why I then used Cecil Shorts; a guy who is reliant on his speed and not one of the best in the league. I don't have a problem using the example, it's just like: This pass rusher sucks, look at his tape against Joe Thomas.
- I agree, Landry is an awesome match-up on anyone. And Haden just doesn't scare me. It's more than I think there is a more effective balance. My post wasn't anti-Landry in the slightest; just looking to maximise the ways in which our talent could be used.
Okay, perhaps we just misunderstood one another. I apologize if I misinterpreted what you were saying.
All good. I blame it on the fact we're just not accustomed to dealing with so much talent on this roster.
Truth be told, I don't think there is a wrong answer on this one. I'm comfortable with any way these guys can be used: to an extreme degree. Heck, Duke Johnson and David Njoku will both see the slot this year - and probably both be out wide. Landry, Gordon and Callaway will play x,y,z - and probably more. We can't forget that Higgins and Ratley will certainly get plenty of playing time.
Of all the things Browns fans have had to agree/disagree on, it's nice to be disagreeing on how best to utilize a plethora of positional talent.
Last edited by BDU; 09/02/1810:48 AM. Reason: Clarity - Gordon and Landry won't play "every position" haha.
Calloway I think is the guy Vers is describing that gives Haden problems. But get the Landry thing.
Landry is not just a slot WR. What does that mean? First off in a no football two TE offense we will only have 2 WRs out there. The guy runs great routes...it doesn't matter where he lines up he will excel.
Gordon...don't care WHO...Haden or Anyone for that matter. If he is in the zone..Nobody will handle him.
Wish TT was as accurate as Mayfield...but I'll take less mistakes and having the game going slow from him. Landry, Calloway, Gordon, Higgins and Duke Man is that a good 5 or what and then we got the TEs Njoku, Devalve, Fells
It will take a good 8 games for all to get on the same page for the Offense and have it running like a machine. But that also is a plus with TT out there.

BEREA, Ohio -- Josh Gordon was back on the practice field Monday in preparation for Sunday's opener against the Steelers.
Gordon, who returned to the team on Aug. 18th from his stint in treatment at the University of Florida, shook off his tweaked hamstring and rejoined his fellow receivers, at least in the early part of practice open to the media.
If Gordon makes it through today okay, he'll likely be ready for a bigger workload on Wednesday when the Browns begin installing the full gameplan for the Steelers.
Gordon went through agility drills and caught some passes from the QBs before the media was ushered out after 30 minutes. He showed no ill effects from the hamstring that's had him mostly working off to the side with trainers for the past week.
It was great news for the Browns, who are solely focused on beating the Steelers.
Conversely, the Steelers sent out a statement today saying they're disappointed that star running back Le'Veon Bell hasn't rejoined the team yet because of a contract dispute.
Other Browns who returned to the field today included Seth DeValve (quad), Genard Avery (hamstring) and Damarious Randall (knee).
Cornerback E.J. Gaines is still idle with his sprained knee.
randall and avery being back on the field is a huge plus.
