I was scared Ward might have been hurt seriously last night, but we got good news today.

Not quite as good with GENARD Avery - but it could have been worse.

You know what? I love Avery but i'll take it. We have a ton of options, legit options, at LB'er. Corner? Not so much. Would obviously love to have both come regular season, but Ward is, IMO, more pivotal to the success of the team.

OMG!!! Hue was so freaking stupid for putting him back into the game [pssttt, he almost certainly had medical clearance.]

Moving on from the nonsense of Memphis and device. All the news looks pretty good, other than Avery.

I think we really need Ward this year. I'm sure they will be careful w/him. He is an extremely important piece to our team.

I agree. We're deeper at LB so can absorb the temporary absence.

When I saw the Denzel replay, it looked like really awkward for his back and I hoped he wouldn't miss significant time.

I kept thinking 'just get through this game without a bad injury'.
The NFL has to reduce the pre-season schedule.... they won't, but they should.

I have to laugh at some of the posts... If Hue had any doubt - ANY - that putting TT back could put him at risk, it would not have happened. We all know Hue doesn't want to start another rookie, going into the season.

A dislocated pinkie on his non - throwing hand.... LOL!!

I didn't want to comment on it, but yeah. How utterly stupid. He was handing the ball off with two hands on the ball. Hue was asked directly if he was aware that he was handing the ball off with two hands in his post game presser and if he thought about ending his night. Hue said he was aware, and had medical clearance.

But on a side note, I know you're a huge Hue fan and have supported him all over this board, but it's nice for the bluntness and honesty when he has made (our opinions obviously) a dumb mistake for Taylor going back in and calling it as you see it.

I was being sarcastic because guys like Memphis and device were chastising him over it. I think the decision to allow Taylor to return to the game was made by the medical staff and not Hue.

I think those guys are making a big deal out of NOTHING!

Why is that important? He clearly had an injury.

Sit him... Sit him until Week 1 and don't mess around. He is your Week 1 starter.

They decide who can safely play, and who cannot.

The medical staff can overrule the coaches at any time when it comes to player safety.

That is your opinion. I think you are wrong. It wasn't even an issue. You are just reaching for reasons to bash the guy. You think you are clever, but I'm sure most see through the facade.

Sometimes they say a player is good to go, sometimes not.

I also suspect that Tyrod lobbied Hue to let him back in the game. Don't know that for sure, just speculating.

Total misinterpretation on my behalf. I just saw the quote.

I would think Hue would have final say on going back in or not. He was definitely cleared by the med staff to do so. Taylor himself could've likely said I need to keep out if he didn't want back in but yeah, I still don't approve of it. Especially after seeing Baker go against a number one defense and not going all out with the playbook/game planning/etc.

Need TT close to 100% as we can get him come Steelers!

Wow..............anyone watching NFL Network. Cam Newton sommersauted through the air and landed directly on his head. Looked to have a neck injury. He was woozy. Perhaps a possible concussion.

Well, he just reentered the game. I wonder if Carolina "fans" are bashing their HC?

Yes, it is my opinion. Throwing your Week 1 starter back in the game after he injured his hand is a concern. The decision was a bad one.

You're right. The final decision was Hue's. However, he wouldn't have put him back in the game w/out medical clearance.

We have new QB. A new OC. A new playbook. A new LT. A new LG. A new RG. A new RT. Two new WRs. Two new RBs. Reps w/the first team are important in the only preseason game that is designed to give the starters significant reps.

If Taylor would not have been cleared medically, he would not have returned. Hue held out guys like Randall and Callaway. He didn't allow Ward to return.

Look, this is just guys like Memphis continuing their witch hunt of Hue.

Nothing more. Nothing less.

Ward is ultimately more important than Avery, I'll grudgingly agree to that. But Avery does add a dimension to our defense that is different in a way that we haven't been different in the past. I hope they can hold him out this coming week and that he can play against the Steelers. He can do some damage against Ben.

It was a dislocated pinky on his non throwing hand... that they put back into place... which I'm guessing didn't hurt much after reducing it...

You guys act like he went back in with a partially torn acl.... I see nothing wrong with putting him back in... the offense sucked... he needed some practice...

It is kind of hilarious to see people freaking out about the "risk of re-injury" for a dislocated pinky finger.

That's the NFL equivalent of a broken nail.

Hue Jackson steps to the podium: "Myles Garrett has suffered a grazed knee. We can't be certain of the extent of the injury as he's been transported to hospital, but I can tell you some grass was present in the graze and the antiseptic cream was said to have stung, so we'll be placing him on IR for the season. Obviously, a disappointing diagnosis for our football team, but we'll continue to monitor Garrett's health and wish him all the best in what will be a difficult rehabilitation; particularly when the bandaid is taken off in a few months."

I dislocated my index finger playing basketball as a teenager. The gym teacher popped it back in to pace. I was given a pass to go home for the afternoon, which was nice, because I had the house to myself while the folks were at work, and an internet fill of boobs. That hand deterred me not.

Surely, we cannot be surprised that Tyrod Taylor showed as much toughness as a horny teenager.

Could a ref change the thread title to training camp, instead of 'trading camp'? It's embarrassing.

Thanks .

Long read... but worth it lol.

I have no issue with TT going back in with that minor injury. He needs as many reps as possible.

Avery's loss is a bummer; I'm really hoping it's not more than a few weeks (sounds worse than initially thought)

So we offered Dez less than 5 million per year (which I assume would escalate with incentives)

That's about right IMO

When it comes to injuries, yes they do. That’s why they are there, player safety. This surprises you?

Browns notebook: Denzel Ward practices after leaving preseason game with back injury; Kevin Zeitler, Antonio Callaway return
Published: August 25, 2018 - 2:50 PM | Updated: August 25, 2018 - 4:57 PM

By Nate Ulrich

Beacon Journal/Ohio.com

BEREA: Browns rookie cornerback Denzel Ward practiced Saturday after the Nordonia High School graduate hurt his back two days earlier in a 5-0 preseason win over the Philadelphia Eagles.

Ward, a starter and the fourth overall pick in April’s draft, has been dealing with back spasms as a result of twisting his torso while tackling tight end Zach Ertz with 10:31 left in the first quarter. Ward, an Ohio State product, didn’t play the rest of the game.

“We expected him to [return to practice],” coach Hue Jackson said after Saturday’s session. “It was spasms in his back. I would suspect that he would be out there today.”

ADVERTISING

inRead invented by Teads
Jackson said there’s “no doubt” Ward should be ready for the Sept. 9 regular-season opener against the Pittsburgh Steelers.

There were other encouraging developments on the injury front Saturday.

Starting left guard Kevin Zeitler (calf) and rookie receiver Antonio Callaway (groin) returned to practice. Zeitler had been out since Aug. 1 and missed the first three preseason games. Callaway missed a couple of practices last week and Thursday’s “dress rehearsal.”

Because Zeitler has yet to appear in the preseason, Jackson hopes to get him a tune-up in the exhibition finale Thursday against the Detroit Lions.

“I would like to get him in a game before we play [in the regular season], but let’s see where he is,” Jackson said. “After practice today, let’s go in and see how the injury held up.”

Good to go

Starting quarterback Tyrod Taylor practiced Saturday, like he said he would Friday, despite dislocating a pinkie and injuring his left hand and wrist against the Eagles. Taylor had his swollen, bruised non-throwing hand wrapped, but Jackson said he wasn’t limited in practice.

“That is the way your quarterback has got to go about it,” Jackson said. “He is a tremendous competitor, a good leader, an awesome leader. I think he wants to help this organization win. That is what you want from your quarterback.”

Sidelined

Starting tight end David Njoku (ankle) and starting defensive tackle Larry Ogunjobi (shoulder) didn’t practice Saturday. They both played against the Eagles.

“Those guys will be fine,” Jackson said.

Starting free safety Damarious Randall (knee) didn’t practice Saturday. He said one of his knees “locked up” Thursday during pregame warm-ups but it’s not a serious issue.

Njoku, Ogunjobi and Randall worked out beside the field with wide receiver Josh Gordon (hamstring), defensive tackle Trevon Coley (high-ankle sprain), rookie linebacker Genard Avery (hip), tight end Seth DeValve (quad), fullback Danny Vitale (calf) and right tackle Kevin Bowen (knee).

On the bubble

The quad injury DeValve suffered during the third practice of training camp forced him to miss virtually all of camp, and now he’s in danger of missing the entire preseason.

The situation wont help DeValve’s chances to make the team. All NFL teams must trim their rosters to a maximum of 53 players before 4 p.m. Sept. 1.

“We know Seth is a good football player and he can play,” Jackson said. “We just have to get him healthy. His health has been an issue. He has had to work through it. It is tough.

“How it is going to unfold at the end? We are going to keep the best 53 guys that we can, and I think that is what we have to do. However that shakes out, if he is part of that, great. If he is not, it means we found somebody better.”

I don't mean to play doctor but anyone who ever had a torn meniscus (cartilage) in their knee knows that this means he probably has a "floater". It's not serious, but it could and probably will put him out of commission for 4 weeks, give or take, at some point this year.

Yea .. I have something like that. Its called Plica Syndrome. Tissue in knee joint rubs and causes clicking or trying to catch when bending ( getting up). I've had it 15 years and started when putting a roof on a big metal building. First time it did it when I stood up made me see stars smile Cures are quit squatting, rest the knees or they can trim that excess tissue.. I just get up slow and let them click easy.. LMAO

Sorry to hear. Knees can be a real pain.

DOCTOR: "Does its hurt when you do that?"
"Yes."

GC. Don't be Wile E Coyote.

Vs the Steelers, the key is, Don't "always" rush the passer.

Some snaps hold that pass rush back at the line of scrimmage. thumbsup

I don't think Seth is in danger of not making the team. I'd be shocked if he were cut actually. He was starting to come on it seemed.
