In the spirit of posters like Vambo who use articles that contain isolated incidents as scare tactics against an entire group of people, I think we should deport all the people in this country who play video games. If they are here illegally playing video games, go for it. I saw this same backwards correlation to the white dude who killed his wife and daughters on social media.. that maybe we should deport white men. What part of "legal" vs "illegal" do people have so much trouble comprehending?

It was a satirical reply to a group of posters who continually post "horrific" articles that are designed to create bias against a particular group of people.

Nothing in what you just said here is evidence that the left wants to suppress wages. Doing the jobs "Americans won't do" is not the same. Telling Trump to pound sand on DACA because his demands were unreasonable elsewhere is not the same. You need to provide evidence to support your claim that the left wants wage suppression, or recant the claim. The party platform on this is rather simple: - Pathway to citizenship for all where reasonable
- Raise the minimum wage to $15/hr
source Where in the party platform is it stated that the party wants the opposite of what they are claiming? I provide sources, not rhetoric. You should strive to match.

Lighten up, Francis. I have a bias against people who come here illegally. It's called not liking lawbreakers and people who don't respect the rule of law.

Once again, actions over words. Until they start doing things that don't say that, I don't care whats on their webpage. I bet there are lot of things on the R site that don't account to how they act either. Sorry, wont recant my statement. Every action they propose on the matter, is in direct support of what I said. FYI what exactly is "pathway to citizenship for all where reasonable" mean exactly? Anyone sources of what reasonable is and is not? Do they ever explain that or just leave it up to whom ever interpretation is at the time? Its not really a source when there is nothing backing it up, is it? So if I create a webpage and put on there "The Browns as of today are the greatest team in the NFL" those are just words. Their ACTIONS on the field dictate otherwise.

You claim their actions say otherwise, yet do not provide compelling evidence of these actions. Also, you demonstrated you did not read the source I provided, as they outline in black and white language what they mean by reasonable.

Where in the party platform is it stated that the party wants the opposite of what they are claiming? It's directly across from the part of the Republican party platform where they say they are for debt reduction and smaller government.... I don't care what their platform says they stand for, both parties platforms are for unicorns and rainbows as far as the eye can see. The party platform on this is rather simple:
Pathway to citizenship for all where reasonable Raise the minimum wage to $15/hr Which violates every rule of market economics.. a massive influx of relatively unskilled workers while almost doubling wages for those same unskilled workers.. Wages are driven by supply and demand... the more rare or hard to find skill sets pay the highest wages because they are in demand... picking fruit and flipping burgers are very low skill so those wages are low... allowing thousands and thousands of more people in with that skill set and desire has kept those wages low for a long time, I don't care what the party platform says... they have, to this point, done their fair share in keeping wages low, now they just want to wave a wand and arbitrarily increase those wages by 80%... as if that will have no other unintended consequences on the economy...

I'm not arguing the merits of it, actually. I agree that the economics of increasing wages by that amount need to be done on more than just feel good policies. I'm arguing in particular will's claim that the Democratic party is lying on their platform. That they actually want to keep wages low. I'm asking for the smoking gun, and he's deflecting.
You want proof the GOP is full of it on debt reduction? Look at the tax bill. Why can't will give me a bill put forward with the support of the democrats that shows this so called ACTION he's claiming to know about? It's like Trump and the Mueller investigation. People are convinced that he's guilty or innocent without the investigation report. I take a simple show me approach. Until I see any evidence brought forward, he's innocent of the claims people are making.
I just detest it when people put forth FUD and trash statements like this without evidence. Show us the evidence or shut up about it. So will, where is your smoking gun that the Democrats want to keep wages low? Until then, you're just spouting off feel good talking points. If you can provide the proof, I'll agree 100% with your assertion.

And I already told you why I disagreed with your views. I get the sense you don't care to actually discuss the false statement you made, but instead will double down on it. I'll provide further insight into why your claims are easily debunked in any event, even if it's wasted. To be clear you said: "They do the jobs Americans wont do" - I.E. they do the jobs that we don't want to pay much for. Here, you not only make no attempt to link this statement to how the democrats want to suppress wages, you also show a lack of understanding how basic burden of proof works. For starters, the general refrain of "doing jobs Americans wont do" applies to difficulty, not wages. Working in fields is back breaking work. If the democrat byline was "They do the jobs americans won't do because it's too cheap" then you'd have a point. Next, The left was given a way for the DACA to have a path to citizenship, along w/ 1.1 more million, yet the left and Chuck balked at the deal. They left the DACA kids hanging. Action's over words. Trump's deal was DACA for $25bn in wall funding (wasn't mexico going to pay for that?) You might think there is leverage, but there is none. DACA is tied up in the courts, so if the Democrats did Trumps deal, all they'd be doing is giving him $25bn in funding. source. Maybe you like giving the dealership money over retail and a bunch of cash for waxes and scotch-guarded interiors. But reasonably prudent negotiators do not fall for such tactics when buying a car. The same applies on the Hill. Why give up something when there is nothing to gain? I can agree that immigration is something that needs much reformation work done to it, but unfortunately the current political climate these days is either pathway to citizenship for all or pathway to citizenship for none, and it is hard to think of a compromise that would satisfy the requests of both sides. I hope we can end up in a situation to resolve this sooner than later, as what it really does is not just hurt those immigrants but also poor Americans as well.

Yet you support Trump? It was Trump or Hillary. It's not like a had a choice. I was on record before the primaries of that election that neither party was giving me a candidate I wanted to vote for. Hillary is evil incarnate and a traitor to our country. Trump is loudmouthed insensitive jerk. Neither was a good candidate to vote for. I chose the lesser of two evils because nothing good was offered. That is how life works sometimes. I have to say though, that even though Trump's rhetoric is embarrassing he has acted on some of the things I said needed to be done ages ago. His willingness to use tariffs to fight unfair trade is by far my favorite thing he has done. It shows he actually cares about the people instead of just what corporations want. Why do I say that? Because tariffs are the number 1 defense against unfair labor policies. It's the only way you can protect american jobs against slave labor policies that unscrupulous countries like China and Mexico use to destroy US markets by creating products through slave labor and undercutting US manufacturing because in the US we actually have to pay a minimum wage so in essence without tariffs we CAN'T compete because Americans just want to save money. They don't care how the product was made or by who. We should not have open trading with any country that doesn't force a fair wage for its people. I am fine with free trade with countries that do though, provided they are treating us the same. That's unlikely though because ALL OTHER COUNTRIES use tariffs to protect the markets they produce in from being undercut by other countries. There is plenty of things I DON'T like about Trump so go ahead and impeach him because if you think he is harsh then wait till you have Pence as president. LOL liberals are just dumb because they never actually think ahead. Trump is a liberal compared to Pence. Pence with free reign as President? Now THAT is scary LOL!!!

When I think of a minimum wage of $15 an hour I can only see disaster.
Why?
1. It would force many businesses to lay people off or just go out of business because if you double the minimum wage businesses would have to dramatically increase their selling prices to stay profitable, especially small businesses. Customers will rebel against the sudden increase in prices and just stop buying things for a while. Meanwhile a bigger business will deliberately keep prices low and take a loss to drive out the smaller stores to eliminate competition. Once most of the competition is gone the few remaining will join together to establish a median price to protect their decimated profits.
2. Minimum wage should be set locally and not nationally due to cost of living. Minimum wage should be set on what is needed for a person working 40 hours a week to pay rent, pay for utilities, and buy food in order to survive. That cost will change wildly based on locations. There are craftsmen that don't even make $15 an hour here in Indiana but they are supposed to make the same wage as a burger flipper? That is just silly.
3. There should be a difference in minimum wage for a working adult versus a minor in school. If your under 18 then you shouldn't be allowed to work more than 15-20 hours a week because you should be studying and not working so much. Too many poor families force their teens to work and drop out of school. It was the most frustrating thing I ever had to deal with as a teacher was parents telling me their kids just needed to work at mcdonalds so school was useless. To me that is flat out child abuse.

The farming system is so corrupt and stupid right now. We pay farmers NOT to grow food. They should have to deal with the market the same as the rest of us. I mean at the moment they just have to agree not to grow certain things and get free money for life. It's just stupid.

You might want to check out how much the federal gov't. gives farmers every year. EVERY single year. They even pay them to NOT grow crops. to you and razor: im well aware of that. but that has nothing to do with the fact that trump had to bail out farmers as a direct result from his tariffs. soybean farmers had to sell it all before the tariffs kicked it. what you guys said is true, but im struggling to understand what that had to do with the fact i stated.

It sounds horrible, but there is logic behind it. I would suggest researching the topic. Here is one article to get you guys started: Translating Food Technology: Why do farmers get paid not to grow crops? Category: Translating Food Technology Published: 27 May 2016 Why do farmers get paid not to grow crops? The U.S. Department of Agriculture announced in early May that Nebraska comes in third nationwide in the amount of farm-ground acreage the government pays farmers to leave unplanted and idle. Behind only Iowa and Washington in the program, this state will idle almost 775,000 acres total, an area roughly 1.5 times the size of all of Lancaster County. To some, it has raised the perennial question: Why does the government pay farmers to not grow crops? As is often the case, Internet mythology about food and farming has overshadowed some of the fact. The U.S. farm program began during the Great Depression of the 1930s as a limited safety net to help support the income of farmers who were being driven from the land by the thousands. In its early and following years, it did provide some forms of "set asides," in which farmers were subsidized to reduce the supply of crops in order to help make them more scarce and thus hold their prices up. And some vestiges of that supply-control mentality does exist even today, most notably in voluntary programs in which farmers of various commodities either pool funds to buy out other farmers to keep supplies down or voluntarily restrict production per farm. However, with the passage of the most recent federal Farm Bill, in 2014, the U.S. government—for the most part—got out of the business of paying farmers directly to support crop prices on the whole. Instead, the farm program transitioned to the goals of turning the regulation of ag commodity prices back over to the market to determine price through supply and demand, and then making aid available to help farm owners adjust to that market, most notably in the form of subsidized insurance against crop losses in bad years. The only real remaining government program that still pays farmers not to plant is the U.S. Conservation Reserve Program. The more than 30-year-old program pays landowners an annual rent over a contract period of from 10 to 15 years to leave land the government considers environmentally sensitive out of crop production. It also makes cost-sharing funds available to help landowners pay for conservation improvements like planting grasses and trees and protecting streams and rivers. The United States currently enrolls about 23.4 million acres in CRP—down from its high of about 36 million acres 10 years ago and nearly the maximum the government will be allowed to pay for by 2018, according to the Farm Bill. The government's goal in paying farmers an average of about $94 per acre in Nebraska is to return that environmentally vulnerable ground, which in many cases shouldn't have been plowed in the first place, to a more natural state by replanting land cover that was removed during normal cropping. In the process, the CRP hopes to improve water quality, prevent soil erosion and restore wildlife habitat. And in some cases, CRP is still recognized to play a smaller, but still important, role in giving farmers a source of income for protecting those acres and discouraging them from selling them for non-ag uses like housing developments and golf courses. Are taxpayers getting their money's worth? Nationwide, the CRP has been credited with reducing soil erosion by nearly 224 million tons a year, or about 6.8 tons per acre enrolled. By reducing erosion of that soil which often carries excess nutrients that can cause problems in nearby waters, the CRP has also significantly improved those waters. Research estimates it has cut the amount of the polluting nutrient nitrate by 90 percent, sediment and herbicide by 50 percent and phosphorous by as much as 30 percent in some farm regions. Also, by converting row cropland into native grasslands and trees, CRP has given nesting cover, wintering habitat, and plant and insect feed to numerous wildlife species. A 2012 review by a pair of Oregon State rural social scientists of the CRP's selected economic benefits estimated enrolling an acre of land in the CRP improved the value of that acre by an estimated $58 per year, in 2011 dollars. Naturally, most of that value accrues to the owner of the land. However, annual benefits from the reduced soil erosion and increased recreational opportunities amounted to another roughly $49 per acre. The researchers cited studies estimating that only about 10 percent of that $49 goes back into the pocket of the landowner, with the remaining 90 percent accruing to society as a whole. They suggest those figures demonstrate that, although the performance of the CRP could be improved, the average national CRP rental cost of $52 per acre in 2011 provides benefits that outweigh its costs to taxpayers. http://nebraska.farmergoestomarket.com/i...t-to-grow-crops

(and by that, he meant don't play the futures contracts, and panic. Farmers CAN be some of the biggest gamblers around. If you don't know about it, ask me)

I spent a lot of time on my Uncle Wilke's farm. A smart farmer grows what his community needs. The only ones who get hit hard by tariffs are the big corporate farmers who live to swallow up all the little farmers and have regional monopolies on prices.
I'd rather round up all the homeless and give them all free food and a place to sleep if they plant 10 tree a day. If they can do more than give them a bonus for every tree over 10. THAT is how you stop global warming because we already have the technology and know how to change desserts into grasslands with rivers. There are countries that are already doing this anc creating massive changes for the betterment of our world.

j/c: Hmmmm.......... Tibbetts' father: Hispanic locals 'Iowans with better food'Associated Press Associated Press 11 hours ago BROOKLYN, Iowa (AP) — The killing of University of Iowa student Mollie Tibbetts has prompted criticism of the U.S. immigration system because the man charged in her death is a Mexican farmworker. But the victim's father told mourners he's been embraced by the local Hispanic community. Speaking Sunday afternoon to more than 1,000 people at a ceremony at his daughter's former high school, Rob Tibbetts didn't directly respond to comments by President Donald Trump and others who quickly seized upon the suspect's citizenship to argue for changes in immigration laws. However, The Des Moines Register reports that Tibbetts said he encountered Hispanics at Mexican restaurants and elsewhere who were sensitive and kind during the weeks he spent in the central Iowa community of Brooklyn to help search for his daughter. "The Hispanic community are Iowans. They have the same values as Iowans," he said. "As far as I'm concerned, they're Iowans with better food." The body of 20-year-old Mollie Tibbetts was found Aug. 21 in a cornfield outside Brooklyn, where she had been staying during her summer break from the University of Iowa. Authorities have said she was abducted while out running July 18, and an autopsy showed that she died from stab wounds. Cristhian Bahena Rivera, 24, has been charged with first-degree murder in her death and is being held in lieu of a $5 million cash-only bond. He is suspected of being in the United States illegally. If convicted of murder, he faces life in prison without the possibility of parole. Within hours of Rivera's arrest, Trump, Iowa Gov. Kim Reynolds and the state's two U.S. senators said her death demonstrated the need to change immigration laws. Trump called for the election of more Republicans who would support such changes. In his address at Brooklyn-Guernsey-Malcom High School, Rob Tibbetts asked mourners to remember his daughter by "celebrating something wonderful," rather than focusing on how she died. Tibbetts urged the audience to remember his daughter's passion for life and her desire to help others. To highlight his call to celebrate "wonderful" things, the father recognized a couple who had just married the day before during his eulogy. "Today, we need to turn the page. We're at the end of a long ordeal," he said. "But we need to turn toward life — Mollie's life — because Mollie is nobody's victim. Mollie is my hero." Davenport Bishop Thomas Zinkula led the funeral Mass in the city of 1,500 where Mollie Tibbetts grew up. https://www.yahoo.com/news/hundreds-mourn-funeral-slain-20-old-iowa-student-140612222.html

Oh, maybe I missed some steps in the conversation then.. I thought the argument was over whether or not the democratic policies have actually suppressed wages, especially at the low end... which they have.
So no, they don't lie, they just want something that's impossible to have in all practicality. Do you mean via immigration or other means? In any case, I'm sure my statements confuse discussion with endorsement. That is not my intent. My argument is with spreading of FUD as certainty and truth. In this age, perhaps more than any other, we need to fight against that. It is not a left or right issue but a basic societal issue. We have a war on truth going on in the world today, and I have little patience for discussions based in bad faith.

j/c: Almost all ignored the first article I posted on this. Will you ignore this one, too? And do any of you feel dirty? U.S. Mollie Tibbetts’s Father Writes Op-Ed: ‘Show Some Decency’The Cut Opheli Garcia Lawler,The Cut 9 hours ago Mollie Tibbetts was found dead after being reported missing by her family. She was killed by a man who couldn’t take no for an answer. When it was revealed that the man who killed her was an immigrant to the United States, many people, including Donald Trump, used her death as a rallying call against immigration. Her family repeatedly asked for this to end; they insisted their daughter would not want her death to be used as a way to incite hate. They wanted to remember Mollie as a source of courage and compassion. In the days and weeks following her death, not everyone listened to this Tibbetts’s request. On Saturday, her father, Rob Tibbetts wrote an op-ed in the Des Moines Register again, pleading that Mollie’s death not be used as a “debate pawn.” “She may not be able to speak for herself, but I can and will. Please leave us out of your debate. Allow us to grieve in privacy and with dignity,” Tibbetts wrote. “At long last, show some decency. On behalf of my family and Mollie’s memory, I’m imploring you to stop.” He wrote that his daughter would never have stood for the hate being spread in her name. It is a statement the family has repeatedly posted to social media, and reiterated at her funeral. “The person who is accused of taking Mollie’s life is no more a reflection of the Hispanic community as white supremacists are of all white people. To suggest otherwise is a lie,” Tibbetts continued. “Justice in my America is blind. This person will receive a fair trial, as it should be. If convicted, he will face the consequences society has set. Beyond that, he deserves no more attention.” He compared Mollie to John McCain, and considered them both to be good people who wouldn’t stand for the kind of hate being directed to the latino community. He called for the unity that existed when people searched for Mollie. “For most of the summer, the search for Mollie brought this nation together like no other pursuit. There was a common national will that did transcend opinion, race, gender and geography. Let’s not lose sight of that miracle. Let’s not lose sight of Mollie.” https://www.yahoo.com/lifestyle/mollie-tibbetts-father-writes-op-152104377.html

What does that have to do w/the article?
Man, it's like you are opposed to open discussion.
Talk about the topic, please.
Here is the topic for those who are challenged. A lot of folks, including our president, jumped on this murder as an example of how important it is that we stop illegal immigration. They displayed faux outrage. They used the young girl's death to further their own political and social beliefs and biases.
The family [in general] and the father [in particular] of the victim are not blaming Hispanics for the death of their daughter. They have spoken of support from the Hispanic community. They are disgusted by people making this a political and racial issue. They want their daughter to be remembered for who she was rather a pawn in a disingenuous political platform.
Will you respond to all of that or are you going to play Father Superior yet again?

Will you respond to all of that or are you going to play Father Superior yet again? Let's rehash the facts of this: A young woman was killed. Killed by an illegal. The illegal apparently was checked out by some gov't. e-check thing, or whatever it's called. Vers, talk about the topic, PLEASE: An illegal killed a u.s. citizen. THAT is the topic. I have not seen anyone express fake outrage. Answer me this: You think illegals are above the law? You think illegals should just be able to come in to this country? I see no one blaming 'hispanics" (plural) for this. I see people blaming this particular person for murder. He happens to be hispanic. (the p.c. word. He's Mexican) Does it matter if the dad is saying 'don't blame hispanics' for the death of his daughter? Yes, and no. Yes, it matters, because the dad is not blaming a race. No, it doesn't matter, because no one else is blaming a race. The blame is on the guy that killed her. He happened to be here illegally, from what we know. He also happened to be hispanic. Mexican. It is not allowed to protest illegals in this country? It is not allowed to use the person's nationality when describing said person?

Nope, you are not sucking me in. Her father's word means more to me than yours and Trumps.
Crimes are committed by all races and genders.
To point to one crime and assign blame to an entire group of people is wrong. Read the father's words. He doesn't want you to make this a political issue. He said his daughter would not have wanted this. Respect the dead enough to put your agenda on hold until the next time, sir.

In an attempt to create an open discussion, you thought critically it would be a good idea to post a summary about an op-ed and not the article itself? How open should this discussion be? You make the rules. Clearly you fashion yourself as father superior, so please lay out the format of the discussion and make sure to add any points you think people missed in a condescending tone.
