Earl Watford to sign with the Browns I think this is a good move by Dorsey. I think this will be an upgrade of the interior OL personnel.

I actually just thought the other day that we should give him a look
"First down inside the 10. A score here will put us in the Super Bowl. Jeudy is far to the left as Njoku settles into the slot. Tillman is flanked out wide to the right. Judkins and Ford are split in the backfield as Flacco takes the snap ... Here we go."

I wonder if you should change the title to Brown's Signings or something like that?
The team will most likely be signing several players after the cut-down day and I don't know if each dude will warrant an individual thread.
One thread should suffice and since this is the first one, it might be a good idea to make it thee signing thread.
If that doesn't sound like a good idea..........then never mind. LOL

Does a Ref have to do it? If so, I'm ok with the change. I made it happen.

I'll be surprised if he makes the 53 unless there is a serious injury.
Is Zeitler back, yet?
Browns is the Browns
... there goes Joe Thomas, the best there ever was in this game.

The Browns unofficial depth chart is the only source you can consult for some idea of where the team is personnel wise.
Second team LG is Gennesy Second team RG is Drango Second team LT is Coleman
Gennesy has been a non-factor. Watford has played RG and RT based on his bio. Is he a better option than Drango? Possibly.
Could he be a better option behind Hubbard than Coleman? Quite possibly.

Our depth at literally every position other than linebacker is god awful. Maybe WR depth is ok if you are counting on Gordon.

I think we have good depth at RB and possibly TE.

Coley is back so, a rotation of him, Ogunjobi, Meader and Brantley is better than god awful. Especially when you mix in the DEs who can slide inside. Also, the secondary might be a hairs breath better than god awful too! I do agree with your assessment of the OL tho, not particularly confident of the depth there.

I think we have good depth at RB and possibly TE. You know, I can see that as far as RBs. Don't think it came immediately to mind because the OL is still questionable.

I think that our starters are pretty good on the OL.
Depth is a problem, but that's a common refrain across the NFL.

I agree .. especially in the secondary ... The 2nd starter at CB may not be all that and more than likely below average nfl starting cb .... although ... naaaa ... Mitchell’s gonna get a lot of penalties called on him ... so the 2nd corner may not be all that anda bag of chips ... but the drop off from him to #3 and 4 is minimal ... So the depth is actually pretty good there ... the 2sn starter ... thats another story ... OL is a HUGE CONCERN ... starters and depth ...

Yes, I could have been clearer. It's the OL depth that remains a concern.

IDK anything about him, but o-line depth is something that seems next to none here.

IDK anything about him, but o-line depth is something that seems next to none here. That is a problem league wide. As is starting QB. The reason is the college game doesn't produce the players the NFL continues to seek even when there aren't any. Sooner or later NFL teams will smarten up and start playing ball to fit the players they get from their minor league system.

Yes, I could have been clearer. It's the OL depth that remains a concern. I got that. It's just that most teams have major concerns with their depth. At least we have a reasonably competent backup G/T in Drango, a guy who has looked good in his only game for us, played at C, in Reiter .... and a young guy who has shown some promise in Harrison. Drango, while not a world beater, is better than a lot of teams have in their OL depth.

Sooner or later NFL teams will smarten up and start playing ball to fit the players they get from their minor league system. NFL defenses are too good to do that though. Too intelligent and fast. Why we don't see the Wildcat much now. D coordinators adapted and shut that down quickly and easily. I do agree though, but with a twist: both sides maybe try to play to their counterpart needs. Be nice to see more singleback, behind the center and etc in college. I agree with NO twist, it's definitely a league wide issue. Just think, IMO if we were to cut Spencer Drango (just hypothetically), he'd have teams fighting for his services.

Yeah, like Chip Kelly did. Keep pecking.....you know I am right. I talked about this 10 years ago and you never thought it would go this far. It will stop when I see HS programs go back to drop back "pro" systems as you would call them. I have news for you, high schools ARE running pro systems. The "pros" just haven't figured that out yet. College coaches aren't going to put their jobs in jeopardy and try to change guys out of HS just because pro teams want something else. They are going to win with what they are given. They are going to build on those skills. They would be stupid not to....so keep pecking all you want. I know I am right. You will catch up one of these days.

Good post. In fact, excellent post.
Teams incorporate bits and pieces of the collegiate offenses into their systems, but to rely strictly on Spread offenses in the NFL would be suicidal. Your qb and WRs would get killed.
The NFL defenses are far too fast and big for that rinky-dink style.
Take some of the aspects from those offenses and weave it into your system, but relying on it is stupid!

Here is the thing, lamp.
NFL coaches would use it if they believed it would work. Number one priority is keeping your damn job. They aren't going to ignore a better way to do things because they are prejudiced against a different style. LOL

There's no doubt you're right about this. Why would anyone think the NFL is too stubborn, too foolish or too far behind the times to run the things they do in college? That makes zero sense to me. As you said, these guys fight for their jobs. They would never ignore something better that would work.
And it's easy to see why it won't work. When you take the cream of the crop out of the entire nations NCAA D's and then teach them a more complex D, you've created an entire new level of the game. Like nothing in any other level of football. They're too fast, too strong and too complex to compare to any other level of football. Therefore, many of the same tactics that worked on lower levels of the game will get stomped on in the NFL. And Chip Kelly was a perfect example of that.
Intoducing for The Cleveland Browns, Quarterback Deshawn "The Predator" Watson. He will also be the one to choose your next head coach.
