Bills decide to throw Nathan Peterman to the wolves instead of Josh Allen

https://www.yahoo.com/sports/bills-decide-throw-nathan-peterman-133750550.html

The Bills have exhibited a surprising degree of transparency in naming Nathan Peterman their starting quarterback. Whether they’re exhibiting honesty is a different question.

The article from team-owned-and-operated website claims that Peterman earned the job by displaying consistency. The truth may be that he earned it by default.

Eight days ago, rookie Josh Allen absorbed five sacks and a concussion evaluation behind a spotty offensive line facing a good-not-great front seven from Cincinnati. Six days from now, the Bills travel to Baltimore, and they don’t want Allen to get a baptism by Sizzle.

Peterman may be dramatically better than he was a year ago, and he can’t be any worse. The five-picks-in-one-half debacle against the Chargers felt like a moment from which no one could ever come back. And while Peterman didn’t repeat the disaster in a so-so snow-globe performance against the Colts in December, there’s a reason the Bills traded up to draft Allen in the top 10.

And there’s a reason the Bills aren’t putting Allen on the field in Week One. They want to be able to put him on the field at some point after Week Two.

Speaking of Week Two, the Bills open at home that Sunday. Against the Chargers. And so we’ll leave you with this: Peterman’s passer rating from last year’s game against the Chargers actually would have been higher if calculated with Chargers players as the intended recipients of Peterman’s passes.

so yea, im super amped about the season finally starting.

this situation im torn on. obviously im not a Allen fan, although i hope he studs out for the bills.

i understand that peterman looked good in pre season....but is he better than Allen?

for me, this isn't the same as Tyrod vs Baker. Tyrod is a QB with real credibility at the position.

Nathan...i mean i cant say he's better than Allen. he might be slightly more experienced, but we're talking about a 2nd year player vs a rookie they drafted in the 1st round.

part of me thinks allen should just start out the gate.

moving on, anybody catch the drama surrounding the philly coach, the media, and nick foles? ugly situation.

I think starting Peterman is 100% on two things ...

1. Allen is no where’s near ready ... Jills TC is 15 minutes from my old haunt ... reports i’m Getting (one was from the HC of the football team where they train at .. its only d-3 so he’s no big shot .. *L*) ... are that he is not even close ..

2. To preserve him ... there OL is beyond brutal ...

Cause Petermans so bad they may consider starting Allen .. but as much work as Allen needs and with how bad there O is gonna be ...

Preservation seems to be the proper course .. witch shocks me that the bills are doing it ... this dude is not a thief but he may be a worse owner than the thief ... this franchise is run horribly .. HORRIBLY ...

I just couldnt see Buffalo subjecting Allen to that beating right now

so out of 5 QB's taken in the 1st round, only Darnold is starting week 1.

Darnold has always been my favorite from last year; I'm not surprised he's starting (and he has a good mentor too)

Darnold was the guy I wanted us to draft. I feel that he has elite ability to create on the move. It will be interesting to see how the careers of these 5 QBs unfold.

I agree. I was sick to my stomach about Baker when we took him over Darnold. Feel slightly better now, but I think Darnold will be really good.

Your underrating just how bad they are now ... they’ve taken 3 or 4 steps back and they weren’t in a great spot to begin with ... they made the playoffs last year but they weren’t that good ... they made it by the skin of their teeth and they were in a scrum with about 3 - 5 other teams that didnt deserve to be in the playoffs either entering week 17 ...

Pegula (there owner) is no where’s near the POS our thief is ... but he may actually be a worse owner ... but man .. its really tough to out do what the thief did when he hired NON FOOTBALL ANALYTIC GEEKS to run our personal department and have final say on all personal moves including the roster ...

That ones hard to top dawg ... *LOL* ..

U feel only slightly better now .. not sure what your concerns were when he came out ... but he’s dispelled a few of them all ready ...

And the ones he hasn’t dispelled yet are understandable ... he’s holding the ball too long and he doesn’t go through his progressions FAST ENOUGH NOW ... thats one of the hardest parts for most rookie QB’s ... and the two are connected IMO ... he’s staring down his initial reciever too long and that is what leads to him holding onto the ball too long ... one of the things anyhow .. *L*

No clue why he’s staring his initial reciever down for so long .. could be pre-snap reads, could be he’s not processing info fast enough, it could be because he’s not trusting what he’s seeing ... many reasons why ... some very fixable, others not so much ...

EVERYTHING we’ve seen points to him having a chance to be really good ... and at this stage in any rooks career .. thats the BEST U can hope for ....

If your only feeling “slightly” better from wanting to puke your guts off after what we’ve seen ... u may need Tums til the day he’s enshrined ... wink ...

Shaquem Griffin - LB - Seahawks

Seahawks coach Pete Carroll confirmed fifth-round rookie Shaquem Griffin will start at weak side linebacker Week 1 against the Broncos.

He'll be filling in for K.J. Wright, who is still recovering from minor knee surgery. The 23-year-old was born with amniotic band syndrome and lost his hand at age four, though the disability didn't stop him from earning All-American status during his time at Central Florida. Griffin's twin brother Shaq is a starting cornerback for the Seahawks.

I was all ready to watch the first regular NFL game of the season (correct?) tonight and WHAT?!?..... it's raining.... and they're not playing... yet.

I'm gonna record it and watch Dexter instead. I'm certainly not going to listen to the commentators babble for God-knows-how-long.

Sigh! frown

Sheesh, it’s still 30 minutes away from kick-off because of a little rain. Is this football or badminton?

What, Boyz to Men isn’t singing from one knee and the announcer asked the crowd to rise and remove their hats? What do they think this is, 2007?

Falcons drive all the way to the one, then can’t get that final yard, 3 times. That has to let the air out of your giant swan floatie.

That was a really dumb challenge by Pederson. Best cast scenario is he gets four yards back.

3-0 Falcons. I dont know if Philly's offense will be able to move the ball enough without Wentz

How about attempting one pass to Julio Jones in the redzone?

When did PFF become the authority? I find it interesting players PFF rankings are shown when lineups are introduced. I know posters have used them for several years to support or refute views, but don't recall hearing mention on telecasts before last season.

NBC has been using PFF for several years. I think I know why (besides the fact that most of the teams use PFF):
