You are not a dumb person, so you don't have an excuse to ignore the fact that I previously mentioned that other companies are not putting out ads that are about social justice. Nike chose to make these ads. No one else did. They are freaking hypocrites.

Look, I really could care less about the ads. What upset me was when I had to read racial stereotypes about an entire group of people. Many of us hate when certain posters do that against minorities, yet some of you think it is really funny to racially profile whites.

I don't think it's funny.

I think it is lame as hell.

Just as I think it's lame as hell to racially profile blacks, Hispanics, Native Americans, Muslims, etc.

You will NEVER, EVER get me to join a group that promotes hate.

And I don't care how many names you call me. I don't care how many times you call me hateful or biases. I am not participating in racial stereotyping.

You might win the war on here because you have support from others like OCD, Rocket, Swish, Pit, etc........but dawg......you'll never beat me. Never. I am right on this particular topic.

Racial profiling and stereotyping is wrong!

I know you don't consider me a friend anymore, but I said something that offended you one time, but you really need to get a grip. I made a handful of posts in this thread, before tonight, and they've either been about Cuba or the stock market.

I'm winning this war, because you're constantly turning discussions into battle. No crap people have support when you pick on them, because you've alienated everyone else by doing the same annoying crap. Well, I've stated my piece. I know what time it is. For you to play the victim and blame this all back on me.

Your post is all about how awful I am. I made two posts about the subject. You guys went after me. Your last post was the goal.

And look, CHS..........I don't care if you like me or not. I don't care if you get others to like me or not. I will speak my mind.

I do not believe in racial profiling. I do not believe in racial stereotyping. I don't give a flying........who likes that or not. I'm going to continue to speak out against it.

How can you speak out against racial profiling while posting articles calling Chris Kyle, a man who SNIPED AMERICAN CITIZENS during a Hurricane for looting. This is your major problem. What you say and what you do are on the complete opposite end of the spectrum. Quite frankly, I would say more, but you absolutely disgust me after the crap you just pulled. Insinuating that I would use government assistance, although there's nothing wrong if you need that, in the FOOTBALL FORUM. I will not be accused by a glorified babysitter who LIVED off a tax payer funded paycheck for taking public money. Have a good night, Vers.

When I entered my early 20's, I 'stopped out' from my college studies. Wrong major became obvious.
Add to the mix: my Blue Collar roots were in direct conflict with my career path- and I found myself back home... working as a unionized laborer (OCAW Local 7-624) for Big Oil.

In 1978, I met some of the coolest folk I've ever known while working that job. Honest, plainspoken, 'salt of the earth' types.

Now, here we are- exactly 40 years later... and Duriel B. (now in his early 70's) is a fb friend.

This post from him showed up in my fb feed today:

NFL Ratings Crash in Season Opener, Total Audience Numbers Lowest Since 2009

https://www.breitbart.com/sports/2018/09...est-since-2009/

The NFL season opener between the Philadelphia Eagles and the Atlanta Falcons did not impress either on the field, or in the television ratings.

The Eagles managed to do enough to survive the challenge from Atlanta and win by a final score of 18-12. However, in a game that saw the defending champs booed by their own fans, viewers nationwide turned out to be equally disappointed.

With a 13.4/5 in the metered markets, the post-midnight ending game is down 8% from last year’s kickoff of September 7, 2017. In one of the lowest season openers ratingswise and facing portions of a cable news-covered rally by a very NFL critical President Donald Trump, last night’s game is not only down from last year, but 2016, 2015 and 2014 – all of which saw successive declines.

To add more injury to that, the 2017 8:42 PM ET-starting season opener between the victorious Kansas City Chiefs and New England Patriots ended up with a weak 7.7/29 rating among adults 18-49 and 21.8 million viewers. That was a double digit decline from 2016 and the worst total audience an opening game had since 2009.

NFL ratings have collapsed over the last two years. The league saw an approximate ten percent decline in 2017, and a seven percent decline in 2016. Perhaps not coincidentally, those two years were dominated by the anthem protests begun by former 49er Colin Kaepernick in the preseason of 2016.

I think PART of the situation is the Colin Kap stuff, and how horribly the NFL has handled the situation. I put in capital letters PART because I do not actually believe that is the defining answer.

1. Rule changes - people are tired of the rules getting changed every year, along with no clear definition of the rules. We saw it last night multiple times on "catches" No one knows what is or is not a catch, and it seems that its just going to be up to whatever the official THINKS is catch

2. Amount of content being televised. We live in a world millions of opportunities to receive and gather new entertainment and content.

3. The younger generation is losing interest in sports. Participation numbers are down, cost of materials are up, declining numbers in adult coaches are down as well. The love of the game is just declining altogether.

4. Recent NFL troubles with concussion issues and lawsuits. I believe this is having an effect as well. It was a PR nightmare for the league, and when your former players are suing you and killing themselves - it tends to have a negative effect.

5. Domestic Violence scandals - Lets face it, the league took it on the chin with this as well. They have repeatedly turned a blind eye this issue, just to keep the best players on the field. this hurt them as well

6. Drug Policy - Another mess from the NFL. I don't think any Cleveland fan needs really have an explanation on this.

7. Goddell - He is a great commish....if you own a team that is. he has made money hand over fist, but he is widely disliked by the majority of fans, is seemed to be considered that of a dictator, and his outrageous contract demands (which the owners caved too) - def hurt it as well.

8. Movement of teams - allowing teams to move every other year it seems now is also hurting the league. True fans are scorned, cities are hurt, and people lose jobs. How many fans do you think have been lost knowing the Raiders are leave Oak? STL going back to LA? How many Browns fans watched weekly when the Browns left for Baltimore? I know the NFL was an afterthought in my house when the browns left.

These are literally just off the top of my head as other reasons as to why people are losing interest. There were not in any particular order, however I don't think CK makes it even into the top 5.

Love it, Americans died for his right to kneel. Even black Americans, that came home to persecution and intolerance. There in lies the beauty of America.

Land of the free, which is why he can kneel, and why I appreciate Nike’s support.

OK.
Thanks for asking.

Not being able to legally vote until 1960's
Substandard education
Last hired/first fired
Redlining real estate practices
Lynchings
Voter suppression
Segregated schools
Segregated public facilities
Unequal access to public services
Inability to gain/accumulate family wealth
Profiling by local state law enforcement
Peaceful marches put down with dogs and fire hoses

You know... all that stuff the civil rights movement was able to bring to America's attention.

examples.

p.s. I typed this out in about 2 minutes, non-stop. I'm sure I could come up with more, but you asked for some examples. You didn't require ALL possible answers. I now invite other Dawgs to add their items to the list.

This. Is. Awesome!

It's nice to see that the majority has not lost their minds and are standing on the right side of history. Kaep's name may outshine Trumps in this bit of history and end up being the much more important name.

I'm sorry, but I am not going to celebrate a company that exploits people around the world by making use of slave labor and then exploiting uneducated people who have the money to spend on their overpriced objects while giving a man who refers to cops as pigs and supports Fidel Castro, who is one of the most oppressive rulers this world has ever witnessed.

I am very proud that I wrote all of that in one sentence. LOL

From the Suggestions/Methods to reduce MLB game times thread:

As far as I can tell, that's pretty common these days. You have to look at it through this context-- that people's brains (young people in particular) are literally wired differently, to seek constant change, novelty, and excitement. Baseball is largely incompatible with this. The dopamine hits are small and infrequent compared to what they're used to.

The change from a 3 hour, 5 minute average game time to a 2 hour, 55 minute game time will make little or no difference in drawing in these fans. Baseball is dying among young people right? This is why. Even football has had a ratings decline the last couple years and this is as likely of an explanation as any. 3+ hour telecasts with 11-12 minutes of live ball action? We'll see how that works out in the coming years-- I suspect it will go where baseball goes, but delayed by some years.

Of course, I'm not immune to this either. I didn't watch the Falcons vs Eagles game, but wasn't because of Colin Kaepernick or the Anthem issue. Rather, I just had no interest in the game whatsoever.

In ten years, I've gone from watching three games on Sunday and one on Monday to not caring about season opener between the Super Bowl champs and another strong playoff team. I wonder how many others like me are out there... probably a lot, although maybe not so many who are active posters on an NFL team message board.

I buy NIke gear occasionally. My comment wasn't about wha I was going to buy, but instead, it had to w/that I was not going to "celebrate" this latest bit of news or buy into their advertising gimmick that they are socially conscious. I think almost all major corporations are exploiting the masses. While I have to consume products, I certainly don't have to celebrate their exploitation and pretend they are social do-gooders.

You can go to shirtmax and buy shirts for 2 or 3 bucks. I'm sure comparable sites exist where you can buy shoes that are of similar quality of Nikes for a tenth of the price. You're on the internet-- search around, find something you like.

Well, you shouldn't celebrate any company in general. You should also look into the idea of "recuperation" in political philosophy, where companies rebrand counter-culture, especially in times where not taking a side is worse than actually taking a side, times like now.
