One game doesn't crown anyone king. Sam Darnold played well tonight. Geno Smith and Mark Sanchez played well in their debuts for the Jets if I remember correctly too

You can see why he was picked #3, and was considered to be #1. The guy has arm talent and can do special stuff,he's no Smith nor Sanchez...

Darnold has a very high ceiling, if he pans out he will be special because few can throw on the run like he does. His bootleg to the left and throws are something special.

He played well. We might have had success against that team, too. And he would have had trouble with Steelers, I suspect. He has upside, granted.

I've always liked Darnold more than Mayfield, though playing against DET in a dome would be way different than against PIT in that weather.

I'd like to think (hope) that Mayfield would have been that successful last night too

There is it,,, Detroit isn't Pittsburgh, A dome isn't the weather we had Sunday.... That is not to say that Darnold is a bad QB. Not at all. Not meant to diminish his play...

Darnold had a great game. But here is something to consider. Yes, Detroit's defense is bad in general but Patricia has installed a Patriots defensive scheme in his inaugural season that adds to their problems. I won't fall into the trap of calling it a 3-4 vs. a 4-3. Yes, defenses all use multiple fronts these days but Detroit defensive players are being expected to do some things they are unfamiliar with, adding to their difficulties.

Do you guys remember how abysmal the Browns' defense looked while going thru those changes? That's where Detroit is now.

It'll be interesting to see how the Jets perform when they play the Patriots, playing the same or similar defense.

The Jets added a lot of talent in the offseason. They could be a sleeper team.

I just retweeted an MMQB tweet showing two headlines reading, "A star is born!"

Both headlines written about Geno Smith and Mark Sanchez.

I love Darnold. He's going to be an excellent pro. But I also think the Lions are a mess and Darnold's game wasn't as flattering as the stat line. Undoubtedly, he played extremely well for a rookie, but he was in an excellent position to play well.

He starts with the Lions and Dolphins. I'll crown him after I've seen him against the Browns, Jaguars, Broncos and Vikings - who make up four of his next six games.

And while I'll crown him, I won't do so at the expense of Mayfield. We haven't seen him yet, but what we have seen is impressive. Darnold looking good doesn't mean that Mayfield won't look good too.
