I listen to Glenn Beck almost every day, it's the only political stuff I listen to and then it's comedy or music on Pandora.

At least twice an hour he has this commercial for a guy, Tika Tiwari, that he partnered with to create a class on crypto investing and about a month ago (or so) he had him on a webinar saying that Bitcoin was going to go from where it's hovering now between $6k & $7k to $40k. Or do you think the crypto ride is over?

What do you all think about this?

i think the crypto hype ended when government started getting their hands into it.

you can thank countries like NK who actively create and sell currency, which they actually used to fund their government < meaning they used it to get around US sanctions.

bitcoin had peaked at about 19k and then all the currencies started dropping like flies.

so my general answer is stay away from it til a real foundation is established. way to volatile right now, too much uncertainty, and a quick way to lose your money if they keep regulating it.

Crypto ride is over for the forseeable future. Most likely, whenever the SEC releases its report about bitfinex or tether. Bitcoin really got popular with investors as the exchanges marketed bitcoin as being backed by tethers, which are all equal to $1. By who you ask? By the imaginary fairies that run our financial system. So naturally, tethers are worthless and people jumped on that hook line and sinker. The worst thing is, since bitcoin's price is so dynamic and driven on customer demand, that once people found out that Tethers were a scam, and tried to withdraw their thousands of dollars of bitcoin, the exchange would block their transaction to keep the bitcoin trading high. I wouldn't buy now. I reckon, the real price of bitcoin is around $1,000. I have some automated programs that buy and sell coin, but I hardly use them anymore, just because it's not worth what it costs to keep the machines running.

I agree with Swish.. if you have some play money that you are willing to really speculate with and you want to take a chance, go for it with the understanding that you could lose most of it.. it could also triple quickly... but I wouldn't bet the retirement or the grocery money on it.

I don't think the crypto ride is over. I think the key is finding the right one (or ones). Bitcoin is the most expensive now and gets a lot of press, but there are many others - and several serve different purposes.

Ripple's XRP is the one I've been watching, because it is intended for the financial services sector. RippleNet is a great blockchain use case and is intended for fast and secure bank to bank transfer of assets. Last I looked, they had over 100 banks globally using the system, including some massive banks like BofA and Barclays. Some are also using their settlement system. Their CEO said a while back (take this for what it is worth), that he expects several (I think he said dozens) banks to be using XRP in 2019.

IMHO, IF (a capital letters, bold, flashing IF) traditionally conservative banks can get behind a crypto and use it consistently - that's one that will likely be around for a long time.

I am a old guy. I don't invest in things I don't understand or see. I don't understand that.

I wouldn't trust any financial ideas coming from Captain Oligarh Chalkboard's advertisements.

He got railed for the gold scheme that ran during his program on Fox.

Investigation into Beck and goldline.
