Browns are trying out kickers today. Gonzalez's is done as a Brown. I like the trade with ARZ. for Dawson Idea. Sounds like Santos maybe the Browns new kicker.
I would love to see Phil retire as a Brown, but he honorably did his time here and wanted to leave. I hope we don't trade for him without his prior approval of a trade.
Plus, he's gotta be on his last 1-2 years. Sucks that zane didn't work out ... having a kicker for a decade is a huge bonus
"First down inside the 10. A score here will put us in the Super Bowl. Cooper is far to the left as Njoku settles into the slot. Moore is flanked out wide to the right. Chubb and Ford are split in the backfield as Watson takes the snap ... Here we go."
Turns out Browns' kicker Zane Gonzalez, who is losing Cleveland's kicking job this week, has been kicking with a groin injury that requires an MRI today, per source. Browns could reach an injury settlement with him or put him on waivers, injured.

At the time, I pegged the pick of Gonzalez as the pick of the draft. Sadly, even I'm ready to pull the plug after these last 2 weeks. I know the blame isn't solely on Zane, but if he makes his kicks, we're 2-0 against 2 tough teams.

If that is true and there is still hope for him, then put him on IR.

Wait, what? The kicker had a groin injury all week—one that needs an MRI—and instead of trying out kickers/signing one, they just trot Zane out there to struggle in a dome? This is FINE.

Only the #Browns would force their kicker to kick through a groin injury, allow it to cost them two wins, cut the kicker, then replace him with a kicker who has never kicked in the NFL and made just 69.5% of his career FG attempts in college.

Browns to sign Greg Joseph to replace Zane Gonzalez Gonzalez reportedly kicked Sunday with a groin injury
DARYL RUITER SEPTEMBER 17, 2018 - 1:39 PM
Cleveland, OH (92.3 The Fan) – The Cleveland Browns will sign rookie kicker Greg Joseph to replace Zane Gonzalez on Monday.
Gonzalez missed 2 PATs and 2 field goals, including a 52-yarder in the closing seconds that would’ve tied the game, in the second half in the 21-1 loss at New Orleans Sunday.
According to ESPN's Adam Schefter, Gonzalez had been kicking with a groin injury, which has gone undisclosed and will require an MRI today. Gonzalez never appeared on the team’s injury report and it is unclear if Gonzalez kept the injury to himself.
Joseph is a rookie out of Florida Atlantic University that did not make the Miami Dolphins team. He hit all 3 of his field goals – 33, 48 and 54 yards – during the preseason for the Dolphins.
Over 4 seasons at FAU Joseph made 57 of 82 field goal attempts and 165 of 170 PATs in 50 games combined.
out of all the NFL caliber FA just waiting, we sign just about the last guy you'd want save pulling some guy with a dad bod and beer helmet out of the stands to kick the game winner

My guess would be that Gonzales didn't tell the team about his injury until he blew a kick or 3. (or 4) He probably hoped he could kick with it, and didn't want to risk losing his job. (which is happening anyway)

There is no level of sucking we haven't seen; in fact, I'm pretty sure we hold the patents on a few levels of sucking NOBODY had seen until the past few years.
Before i trash this i’d like to know how he got to be a 70% career FG kicker ...
Did he go:
68% 73% 66% 71% ...
Or did he go:
55% 63% 70% 84%
I didn’t do the math so the anal dawgs can bite me .. *L* ..
What length were his misses ...
Lots to know before we start trashing him ...
His pre-season went well ...
I’ll at least wait til he misses his first kick before I start with the SAME OLE BROWNS refrain .. *L*
he barely hit 71%...5 years...at a Jr. college.. I'm not holding my breath

I just looked at his college stats. He was close to a 70% kicker throughout his career.
Last year he went:
0-19 no kicks attempted 20-29: 7 of 7 30-39: 3 of 4 40-49: 4-7 50+: 1 of 3
This really confuses the heck out of me. There have to be many kickers available who are better than this guy.
