Another loss...held off on the thread so that everyone could get their rant off their chests as I'm sure many or all have.
Did we sign Bailey yet?
I saw a very conservative beginning. We were in control and we went dink and dunk run, run, pass with the game plan of keep Brees off the field. But it also netted us just 2 FG as we were in total control on Defense.
In doors, no wind, no rain you expect success from the kicking game. 2 missed extra points and two missed FGs...just unacceptable from an NFL Kicker and this after him getting a pass on missing the game winning kick a week ago because of the rain.
TT...he completed a lot of passes but not to nitpick but will...lol he was highly inaccurate as pass after pass if he put the balls in the right spot we would have had massive YAC instead we got passes thrown behind the WR or too low or high where as they could not catch the ball on the run and we are talking simple short passes. Also when we needed it most he made a rookie mistake in throwing a crucial INT, while watching I'm like yelling this is why we got you starting so we don't make these Mistakes!!!
I also didn't like the run inside the tackles...when we designed a run, designed not when a RB abandoned the intended area and went outside. But when we designed runs outside we had a lot of success. Also the game plan of keeping the ball away from Brees baffled me cause their DBs were so woeful a week before. I thought if we spread the Offense with 3 WRs Duke and Njoku...we could of done a lot of damage the entire game especially in the first half where we were in complete control.
Our Defense was once again amazing. This time Garrett getting a lot of attention had that fast DT Larry do a lot of damage. No wet field and with the fast track he was pretty good.
#50 Smith I did not like him in preseason and was wondering how he made the team over Orchard. Now I see why, the more I see him play the more I like it. He was pretty darn good against the Run.
Ward continues to impress me with his coverage.
I thought Mitchell did well and got a little robbed on some calls. But this time I must admit the Refs were fair as they made the same calls against the Saints. It when it doesn't go both ways that I get upset.
My biggest pet pieve was the female ref. She kept spotting the ball very often way ahead of the ball during the tackle. I'm not crazy cause my mother had me checked. It was little and nothing to do with our loss but it was driving me crazy like HUH what kind of spot was that and I would rewind and affirm my concern. Not sure if it went both ways cause I was only noticing it on us as my concentration was there.
I'm concerned about Devalve...we kept him and I know I saw him on ST in game #1. I didn't see him at all this game I'm guessing he was inactive. If TT was going dink and dunk as a game plan he is perfect for that especially coming from an HB position.
The little I saw from Chubb I liked, seemed a little quicker and he did go outside. Our OL played well. I kept screaming on our 3rd and shorts...to run it to the left as Harrison and Bitonio were dominating in run blocks but we always seemed to go right! We need to see more of that Zip motion (Jet sweep or fake) finally I remember we had the motion go to the right and we ran to the no power side (cough: left cough:) with good success.
We didn't lose this game because of TT but we didn't win it because of him either.
So its 4th and about 4 late in the game and we are going for it...incomplete and the game would be over.
I'm like NOoooooo!!! as we go for a bomb which is like 1% in its success. It was TTs best pass of the day and one of the few that he threw over 10 yard. Not a strike but out there where the WR Calloway had a shot to go get, got it on his fingertips on a full run and was able to secure it before leaving the Endzone...I was like big time throw and big time catch to get us right back in the game. Ok lets get the extra point and the lead...Ya got to be kidding me as we missed our 2nd extra point.
Mind you the snap, hold were perfect. No wild rush or anything like that.
I'm tired of us OUT PLAYING TEAMS and coming up with the LOSS. Yeah yeah, we weren't suppose to win this one. In their house after a loss and them no way of over looking us.
Thursday's game is the game of our season. We can be right in the middle of this with 1-1-1 as our record.
Who is this #38 Williams. I thought he did pretty good. Pepper also was solid in the return game. He also made some good tackles. One of the best by our Defense against Kamara. Man that kid is like butter and just slides off of everyone. I really liked him in the draft last year as he impressed me when I did watch Tennessee. But who knew how good this kid could be. We did an excellent job but rarely were we able to tackle him on the first contact.
So it was a nice hole up the middle on a short yardage to gain the first. Peppers came up and made the perfect form tackle...He still got the 1st but I think Peppers is showing his detractors wrong.
Well I'm sure there is a lot more out there so let us know what you saw! Hope the next day hold off will pay. Trust me I was not a happy camper after the game. I need positive things not depressing things like that to happen.
Well this is supposedly my last week of Chemo and Radiation...then a get strong period and finally surgery!
Lets get this done.
Hoping for a draft pick for Gordon and hoping a signing for Bailey which to save a Mil the Cowboys released him...He's there.
Oh and thank you dumb ass Banner for getting rid of Dawson back in the day yeah he was over 30 but he was a freaking kicker strong as ever and still kicking and he's on a team worse than us (Zona)
So looking forward to have Dez and Bailey former Cowboys on our team come Tuesday!
have at it and please keep the rants to a minimum...I wasn't hunky dory but tried to keep it to football not venting! Please do the same doesn't have to be all positive just accurate! Thanks in advance!

That's the important stuff. You'll certainly be in my prayers. I managed to sit through the entire game and didn't lose my mind. It was not out of the realm of possibility that we'd win it, which is kind of a different feeling for me. I'll be willing to wager we will be looking for a kicker starting today. Beyond that I'm not sure I'm complaining too much about anything yet. TT isn't the greatest thing ever but he's not the one losing games for us. Let's give it a few more weeks to see what's happening.

I saw the refs - ONCE AGAIN - nullify a terrific 3rd down stop with a ridiculous call...a call that ONCE AGAIN resulted in points/more-points in a very, very close game.

I feel like we had the exact same gameplan than the week before offensively, instead of trying to win, we are trying NOT TO LOSE. We didn't lose this game because of TT but we didn't win it because of him either. This is exactly what I mean. I feel like we are trying to win games 6-3. Not gonna work when you can Kick My biggest pet pieve was the female ref. She kept spotting the ball very often way ahead of the ball during the tackle. I'm not crazy cause my mother had me checked. Not sure if it went both ways cause I was only noticing it on us as my concentration was there. I am so glad you mentioned this! I didn't want to sound like a sore loser or nit pick against the refs, because all in all it was actually a pretty decent game by them. But for some reason, is it just me, or does this lady have it out for us? Isnt she the one that cost us a game last year and the year before she tossed Pryor? She also had the horrible call on the duke fumble in the past where he clearly recovered and she said no inside of 2 min and we couldn't review it!

My opinion is just that, and based on 0 fact, just my gut feeling.
I feel like we're already getting more respect from the refs. There were bad calls in both games, but the bad-to-questionable calls were more balanced than I felt they were in previous seasons.

Well, we signed a kicker today, a rookie so I don't know anything about him.. but he can't be worse... (one thing a Browns fan should probably never say)
I saw TT check down and throw underneath the entire game until the game was on the line.. then suddenly we had a vertical passing game. He has to start taking some of those shots earlier. I also saw his INT, which not only did he throw right into coverage, he once again threw it with the velocity of a change up.
I saw us stick with the run even though we weren't getting a lot out of it but then it started to improve later in the game, as the running game usually does.
Not much I can say about the D other than it is legit.. folks are making big time plays.. they are just a little bit of experience away from being REALLY dominant.
I also saw a coaching staff (and a head coach) that despite the record, really deserves an even longer leash.
I'm also seeing something else but I'm going to start a thread on it so I won't elaborate here... Learning how to win.

I can see this defense really misses Nassib and Meder.not. a saw a DT produce 3 sacks yesterday which was more than Nassib had last year.

Well, I didn’t see the game, but I also didn’t read/hear about Desmond Harrison from anyone. That is a great thing.

Thanks all for the well wishes, wish I read more football.
Yeah refs have been ok and fair this year...so far. I think Hard Knocks helped us in many ways. Respect most of all.
Yeah sort of got my wishes, Draft pick for Gordon 5th rounder and a new Kicker (not Bailey) we will see about the rookie from no where college...might be a good sign and who is the Dolphins kicker if an automatic roster spot then this kid could be good. Only thing I know about him so far is he has a strong leg.
Streater? WR not Dez...oh well we got weapons and can't believe Gordon is going to be rewarded with a playoff run.
Don't we play them or our we playing Jets cause they were last in their division I guess?
Biggest game of our new season. We got to break this slide and losing. 2 games that we coulda/shoulda won. Instead of 2-0 we are still goose eggs in the win column.
Love love the Defense and I hope we bring pressure against the rookie Darnold. I think this game was original booked by NFL to have a Darnold vs Mayfield show down.
Back to what I saw...Harrison is not doing bad at all. Nobody is Joe Thomas but so far a pleasant surprise. Hope he stays clean.

The more times I watch the Callaway TD, the more convinced I am that Tyrod was trying to throw to Landry. Sometimes it's better to be lucky than good.
Maybe that play will help TT have trust in the rookie. Callaway touching the ball more could mean good things for our offense. He looks like our most explosive player.
I'm not trying to knock Taylor. He had a pretty good game outside of the INT, the bad spin into the sack at the 2 minute warning, and the looseness with the football (several near fumbles). For the seasoned vet, he looks like he needs to settle down a bit. I expect more improvement this week.

i totally forgot about the "almost" fumble by TT on the one scramble ... that woulda been disastrous as well
"First down inside the 10. A score here will put us in the Super Bowl. Jeudy is far to the left as Njoku settles into the slot. Tillman is flanked out wide to the right. Judkins and Ford are split in the backfield as Flacco takes the snap ... Here we go."

I forgot as well. It seems like we had a quick run of those... Higgins I think was the other one that lost the ball, but it bounced out of bounds?

TT’s was self inflicted ... he was carrying the ball in his left hand ... it just squirted out w/o any contact ..
VERY SLOPPY ...

I agree with your take. I am frightened that for a guy who supposedly does not turn over the ball, he has 2 INT at very bad times during games - as well as the ball bouncing on the ground now as well. I don't see the ball security aspect of his game yet.

i totally forgot about the "almost" fumble by TT on the one scramble ... that woulda been disastrous as well TT continues to play as if he has Frye Hands...I keep double checking, nope he has 10" hands. Ball seems to pop out on a throw or two.
Time for us to get that win, change our entire season around. Statistically we are very Average. But watching the game we have been in control including this one.
I'm very happy with the OL play didn't dissect Harrison' play snap by snap. But it been a pleasant surprise so far. We are 4th in the NFL in Rushing. Out side of the end results. Tie and a Loss...the team is looking good. End Results is what of course its all about. Lets hope the small change of kicker will help the tides to turn.
Thursday is almost upon us. Can't wait.

Thanks Tab ..great insight. I missed the game. Looking forward to watching Thurs night.
I wish the Browns had kept Daves the RB. He had the speed to hit the holes up the middle with this style of run blocking ..imo.
Man, the foot was not in our football. Hope we fixed it for Thursday night.
Pulling for you bro. Stay strong!

I'm starting to get concerned that after all this time it doesn't seem like TT has developed any real chemistry with any particular offensive player. I just don't see anyone who would be his "go to guy". One would think Landry would be it, but if I'm honest and a non-Browns fan asked who it was, I wouldn't be able to give them a confident answer.
First half we ran the ball a lot it seemed which was frustrating. But it seemed like by doing that it opened up the play action a lot more in the second half. I might believe it was done that way on purpose.
I'm definitely not qualified to talk about the intricacies of run blocking, but to my eye it doesn't look like we get much push. Largely it looks like we stand the defender up, but don't really move the around much. Our RB's get some lane, but the defender still has the opportunity to get their hands on them.
Hyde is doing a respectable job but I'd like to see a little more of Chubb.
The Callaway TD... TT throws a funky ball. At first I thought it was going to be under thrown, then it did some weird thing and I thought it was going to be over thrown. But suddenly Callaway kicked it in to another gear and made a stellar play! If that doesn't boost TT's confidence in his guys, I don't know what will.
On defense I was pretty ticked at Collins on the first defensive series. He looked like he was playing 80% intensity.. not hustling, I think I actually saw him shy away from contact. I don't know if he caught a boot in his backside, but he played much better the rest of the game.
Randall looks to be a turnover magnet! I'ts nice having a secondary that can get their hands on the ball again.
After playing the Saints I feel much much better about Gregg's deep safety. Why do I say that? Because we didn't use it this week! That too me says it's usage is now more a matter of specific scheme and not because we are so outmatched.
I was not thrilled about the end of the first half clock management. Saints get it just under 2 minutes. We have 3 time outs still. First play the Saints lose a couple yards IIRC. We let the clock run. If we had used our TO's aggressively and the next 2 plays pan out the same way they did, I estimate we would have gotten the back with closer to 1:20 on the clock. Instead we gave up almost 40 seconds we didn't need to.
I'm trying not to bag on Hue, but in these close games the guy HAS to figure out a way to get that "sinking feeling in his gut" look off of his face. That kind of thing is contagious and it makes me not surprised to see our QB sitting on the bench during the most crucial parts of the game.
I'm probably just projecting and these guys probably aren't doing anything than their normal personalities. It's just not a good look.
I will say this for Hue this year... he's not afraid to step up and get in the ref's ear this year. It didn't take a good lip reader to see the verbage he uses LOL In the past he's come across more like Marty McFly's dad when Biff Tannen is bullying him around when it came to bad penalty calls.
