The worst food I've ever had was Chinese food in Chinatown in London. I figured it would be good, because Hong Kong was owned by the British for so long. My mistake was due to the best food I've ever eaten, which was Indian food in London. It was incredible, and I've never had anything like it since. Words just can't describe how good the Indian food in London is, and I've never found it's equal among Indian restaurants in the US.

Liver is a staple for a welshman. Thats predominantly what f a g g o t s are made of (just add in some sage, onions and breadcrumbs). The beauty of the dish is that any liver will do. Fava beans and a nice chianti strictly optional. Haggis anyone? Offal cooked in a sheeps intestine. If you knew what was in English Breakfast staple, "Black Pudding" you'd never eat it but it tastes fantastic. People often make fun of Asian cuisine such as the deep fried locusts and bugs, chickens feet, dogs etc but basically they probably raise eyebrows at what we put in our pies and sausages eh? Swings and roundabouts. Weirdest food i've had is probably butterfly larvae from korea. Not totally unpleasant but not very nice either. And just remember, if you order a crocoldile kebab, tell 'em to make it snappy.

If you ever make it to Toledo, hit the "India Jewel". The food is out of this world good. A friend of mine's husband is the owner/chef. I've eaten at a few other Indian restaurants, and this one blows them away.

If I ever do, and if it tops the one in London, I will surely let you know. It has to be excessively supurb to equal the food in London.

It's not just London, it's the UK in general.
It's not "Authentic" Indian food by any means, it's catered for the Western pallate and, along with beer, it's the creature comfort that i miss most from home. When i went back in December '05, i had 5 Indian takeaways over a seven day period.
A lot of the dishes on the menu that you'd have perused would be non-existant in India as they were invented in the UK (particularly the Birmingham area in the midlands). Indian Curry usurped the faithful British Fish and Chips several years back as the Nations fave. The majority of Chippy's back home moved with the times and now do Indian curry also......it's very good poured on fish and chips i can tell you.
Us ex-pats in Oz would murder for an "Authentic British Curry."

I'm not brave enough to even try alot of the stuff you guys are talking about so I'll have to say broccoli. IMO the only thing that goes good with broccoli is Roundup.

This is a good story,...I was in Afghanistan in 1974,....(OK, date me,... ) Our cook at the Marine House, an Afghani, put curry on EVERYTHING. To this day, I hate curry. Because one morning, he sprinkled the dang stuff on my Wheaties.

I could put sour cream in a bowl and cover it with ranch dressing and eat it.
Worst food I've had in recent memory, I ordered 2 cheeseburgers from Wendy's on Center Ridge Road in Rocky River, and the damned things were burnt, the outside was burnt to a crisp and I couldn't eat the first one after one bite, so I took a bite out of the second one, it was just as bad, I ended up tossing them both and won't be back to that particular restaurant.

Anything French. When I was in the service our ship pulled into LeHerve France. Some buddies and I took a train to Paris for the weekend and almost starved to death. One place had a big sign out front saying "Hanburgers". We went in and they served us an almost raw patty ( no bread) with a raw egg broken over it. Then they got insulted when one guy handed his back and said here's your cat back. OK, the cheap wine was wonderfull.

I was stationed in Germany back in 84-85 and had an opportunity to visit Europe practically free. I went on the Ninjmegan March in the summer of 84 and some of my buddies and I went to Amsterdam. ..We almost got high just getting off the bus alone.. ...I missed Normandy and the chance to get to my Great-Grandpa's birth-town of Sardinia,Italy. I must go back there before I turn 50...

As an Indian guy, I can tell you that you are right on with this. There is nothing like Indian food in London, except for India of course!
Where do you live? In the midwest, Chicago and New York have decent indian food. NY is a little to americanized though.
A lot of Americans don't like Indian food because many Indian restaraunts try to "Americanize" their food by taking some spices and such away. Authentic indian food cooked the way it supposed to be is very good.

My wife was born and raised in London (just came here a few years ago). She says the same thing. Indian food in London is awesome, but it is by no means Authentic. There are places in London that are however, and they are very good also!
