He was very good in college and rose up the draft charts after a very strong NCAA tournament. I think Houston drafted him and he was hurt all the time. I don't think he did much w/LA either.
I'm not sure if the injuries were the problem or if he simply isn't athletic and/or skilled enough to be good in the NBA. It could be a combination.

I have read that he has had a bit of an attitude/maturity problem.

The dude blames people taking his comments out of context when it's a live feed of him rattling off whatever comes into his head. What an idiot. Just own what you said, IT. And move on.

He's salty (and rightfully so) about losing all of that money, but it wasn't Cleveland's fault

WELL, he never really was able to do his talking on the court, never saw much statement there. So jawing like crazy over us, I feel we were pretty generous letting him have a shot here. If we had it all to do over again, I am thinking negatory.
Shut up and put up.

Cavs guard J.R. Smith arrested in New York, accused of breaking someone's phone in front of restaurant | cleveland.com https://www.cleveland.com/metro/index.ssf/2018/08/cavs_guard_jr_smith_arrested_i.htmlCLEVELAND, Ohio -- Cleveland Cavaliers guard J.R. Smith was arrested Friday in New York City after being accused of breaking someone's phone as they tried to snap a photo of him outside a Manhattan nightclub, New York City police say. Smith, whose real name is Earl Joseph Smith, was issued what New York police call a "desk appearance" to appear in court sometime in September, according to New York City police spokeswoman Det. Sophia Mason. The incident happened July 29 in front of the The Park restaurant in the Chelsea neighborhood, Mason said. Someone tried to take a photo of Smith, 32, as he walked out of the restaurant, Mason said. Smith grabbed the person's phone and threw it, breaking the phone, Mason said. He was charged with misdemeanor criminal mischief. Cavs spokesman Ted Carper said in an email that the team is aware of the incident and Smith's personal attorney is handling the court case. Smith had a run-in with police in September 2017 in Bay Village. In that case, he drove recklessly in his 2016 Dodge Charger about 1:20 a.m. on Lake Road. Westlake police spotted the car speeding along Interstate 90 and notified Bay Village police. Bay Village police tried to stop his car and Smith pulled into a neighbor's driveway, police reports say. He pleaded guilty to willful and wanton disregard of safety and was fined $150.

the sooner fans realize players are people too, entitled to their privacy, the less this happens...if it were me, he's lucky it was only his phone that got thrown.. Did anyone see that Allie Clifton doing her best windhorst impression and riding lebron's jock out to LA....not sure how we are going to find someone to ask those really difficult questions like " so you're up 40 points at the half, do you think the offense is clicking?"

You cannot just destroy someone's property because you don't like them taking pictures of you.
Call the police, ask the restaurant to have them removed ... but physical violence is not the answer, and all it does is get you in trouble.

Conflating property damage and physical violence is deeply unsettling. Just as pulling "good officers" who "keep the streets safe" to settle small vendettas is equally nauseating. When people talk about the death of personal responsibility, then they should take a look at this thread. What's the best way to resolve small personal issues? Bring in an unaffiliated 3rd party and allow them to reach a verdict.

JR being JR. That person must have been rude with the camera. Because I've seen plenty of pics of him taken by fans and such.

Slapping someone's phone out of their hand is not a violent move.

I think the pressure of playing on a lebron team got to him.. I expect him to be a huge part of this season.

I think the pressure of playing on a lebron team got to him.. I expect him to be a huge part of this season. I'm actually curious how much pressure Lebron put on others to perform up to his expectations. Kevin Love, Ty Lue and Hood all experienced mental health issues last season, and those are just the guys we know about. I wonder if they will play looser this season if the pressure to get to the Finals is no longer there.

We have some pieces, and some young talent, we upgraded the PG position and we have a above average 4 in a weak east that no longer has lebron. They will be forced to play with and for each other starting game one. We are going to know by ASB is Lue can actually coach and develop a team. The cupboard isn't anywhere near as bare as last time he left. I also read that because we aren't in luxury tax penalty that helps us next year...i think it gives us more MLE or something like that.. I don't pretend to have a clue about NBA cap..half the time i think they make it up as they go along

Agree. James ran Kyrie off and then ditched the Cavs again. Might as well attempt to get Kyrie back in town.

I rather have a guy like sexton, who maybe isn't as offensively gifted as KI, but puts in the work defensively and hustles. Watching him play is going to be fun. He's a dude who loves basketball, coming from the PG position, thats going to rub off on his teammates

Kyrie? He's more likely to play for the Kings, Hawks and Magic than the Cavs ever again (I intentionally used "and", not "or" there). That ship has sailed. I'm not bashing the guy, I have a Funko of Kyrie on my desk right now to remind me of his 3-ball in game 7, but we need to accept he's never coming back here. Lebron on the other hand...
We got our title and we're back to being "basketball Siberia" again, which is fine. Over the next 5-10 seasons, we'll fight to get into the playoffs, maybe get as high as a 4th or 5th seed, maybe even advance into the 2nd round, but getting to the conference or league Finals, not going to happen. And that's okay.
