I am hoping we have a few tech savvy Dawgs that can guide a not so tech savvy Dawg so I can stream local content from differing locations mainly thru Hulu, using a VPN.

Help the ignorant PLEASE !

Vpn just makes it appear you’re sitting somewhere else. Allows you to bypass local blackout restrictions

First we need to understand what you're trying to accomplish, as mentioned above, it only makes you appear to be somewhere your not. So if your trying to trick your ISP into thinking your not using your home bandwidth when it runs out, that isn't going to work.

To me, it sounds like he's trying to get around regional or national restrictions.

VPN is only needed to hide your IP address from the service.

There are free VPNs and paid. I personally have very little use for one but this is a list of trusted good VPNs.

https://www.techradar.com/vpn/best-vpn

The most popular VPN among the hacker community for years has been Hide My Ass VPN.

I really can't recommend one as I have almost zero experience using them. For pentesting or hacking I would just use a VM and spoof my IP while browsing via TOR, because VPN services can still be traced to your IP legally if you do something illegal.

I've done that for years with no VPN. Just don't download or share and you will be okay (Not a lawyer so this is not "legal advice"). But there are zero cases that I'm aware of that charges were brought against people just watching streams. They target the services, the uploaders sharing the content, and people who have illegal copies in large collections on P2P networks.

This site may help you bro.

Which VPNs Are The Best?
When we ran our recent Hive Five on VPN service providers, we heard from VPN providers begging to be included, angry CEOs who claimed their company was maliciously left out, and others accusing some of the contenders of illegal or unethical behavior. We took at look at the poll and the claims, and while there’s no definitive proof the poll was gamed, we decided to come up with our own top five, based on our own research rather than reader feedback, that are great whether you’re the privacy advocate, the student, or the downloader.

Private Internet Access
Supports: Windows, OS X, Linux, iOS, Android
Protocols: SSL, PPTP, IPSec, and L2TP. You can also configure Private Internet Access to work on your DD-WRT or Tomato router (via SSL/OpenVPN) for constant security.
Home Country: United States, and has exit servers in the US, Canada, the UK, Switzerland, Romania, and the Netherlands.
Logging Policies: The service keeps no logs of your activity whatsoever (in fact, the only things they do keep are your email address and payment information,) uses shared IPs, and has committed to keeping your data private. Price: Pricing starts at $7/mo to $40/yr, and you can read more about their plans and pricing here.

proXPN
Supports: Windows, OS X, iOS
Protocols: SSL, PPTP.
Home Country: United States, with exit servers in the US, The Netherlands, Singapore, and the UK.
Logging Policies: proXPN keeps minimal logs of your activity. proXPN collects your email address, payment information (if you’re a premium user,) bandwidth usage, connection duration, and login/logout times. They’ve committed to only keeping those logs for 14 days or less, and promise to never share their logs with anyone, period.
Price: proXPN has a free plan, which limits your transfer speeds to 300kpbs and restricts you to one exit location (Miami) in the United States. Premium accounts unlock support for PPTP (if you want to connect a mobile device or a router,) remove the transfer cap, and allows you to choose from any of the company’s other exit locations. Premium plans start at $10/mo, and you can read more about their pricing and plans here.

TorVPN
Supports: Windows, OS X, Linux, iOS, Android
Protocols: SSL (they often refer to it as OpenVPN), PPTP, and full SSH tunneling.
Home Country: Hungary, with exit servers in Hungary.
Logging Policies: The service doesn’t log your connection aside from bandwidth usage to compare against your quota, and your payment details. They also are committed to your privacy, and specifically say they won’t surrender their data without a Hungarian court order.
Price: Free TorVPN users are limited to 1GB/mo downloaded before they’re cut off, and Premium accounts start at 5 EUR/mo ($7mo) for 5GB/mo and go up to 30 EUR/mo ($38/mo) for 100GB. Keep in mind they have a no-refunds policy, and that even though you ride the Tor network, they’re a separate entity from the Tor Project. You can read more about their pricing and plans here.

Didn't Kodi on Amazon Fire boxes become vulnerable to hackers?

Once again, VPNs can fool a service as to your location. In most circumstances you locals are determined at signup by your physical address in the registration process. So a VPN won't necessarily help you get different locals or avoid blackouts. They can, but it's not foolproof.

But there are tons of streaming options to see anything you want to see, from tv shows, movies, sports, news, live tv, etc.

I have paid directv service in my living room and 3 bedrooms. But I watch more things online than I do TV because I can see it without commercials and when I want to watch. I can also see any live sport I want most of the time. None of it is legit or cost me a dime.

Paid streaming is the future though. And if you want legit streams there are plenty to choose from. Good luck finding legit sports streams under blackout rules. Not going to happen.

One more question, do I download the VPN to my laptop and run it while I stream, or do I download the VPN to my firestick like an application and it automatically runs?

Yes. But if you connect to a network and turn on any computer, phone, smart TV it is vulnerable to hacking. Don't worry about Kodi. Most bad acting hackers look to steal you id, credit cards, login info to social media/work network, computer resources for botnets, or direct attacks (ransomware) for money hustles.

The best way to protect yourself is strong antivirus and malware protection combined with most importantly educating yourself about hacking. The types of attacks, how hackers trick people, how to spot and avoid these are widely talked about online. People just need to learn.

The average internet user is an easy target. But the average person is not the best target for most hackers. And most hackers are not hacking for evil purposes but to actually help protect you. There are tons of companies that pay bounties to hackers for finding flaws/bugs in programs. This is where most hackers operate.

VPNs come with usage instructions. Each is a little different.

I am using cyberghost and its suppose to unlock and mask location. When you hit the unlock content for hulu it automatically opens hulu. Hulu ask you to share you location the moment you say allow your back to your local content is there something I need to do to set location. I am not seeing the masking.
