One other thing a bit off topic I just thought of. Baker showed well last night on a big stage. I wonder how many non-Browns/Jets fans turned the channel after it went 14-0? Up to that point it was a terribly played game on both sides. IF I were watching I would have likely switched to something else.
TO me it seemed like the 0-16 Browns were playing the 0-16 Browns.
To start the game, and as long as Taylor was in, the Jets were stacking the box. I saw them send 8 multiple times. They have been playing Taylor twice a year for the last 3 years and know his tendencies. They knew he holds the ball too long and looks for the short pass, so they just sent everyone and the OLine couldn't handle the numbers.
One of Mayfield's early plays was a play action to Njoku where the ball was out in less than a second after the fake. That play changed the defense.
I know they stacked the box, but Carlos was still gaining decent yardage. It wasn't like he had a 35 yard gain and a bunch of short runs. If Baker continues as last night, I expect the run game to get even better.
I wish I could find it now, but the # of blitzes that the Jets threw at Tyrod was incredible .. it was like 90% of the snaps.
When Baker got in? That % decreased GREATLY.
If that doesn't tell you about Baker's talent ..
"First down inside the 10. A score here will put us in the Super Bowl. Cooper is far to the left as Njoku settles into the slot. Moore is flanked out wide to the right. Chubb and Ford are split in the backfield as Watson takes the snap ... Here we go."
I think Smith played decently in relief of Ogbah last night and re-watching, Schobert has really grown into the MIKE role. He's becoming a big piece in just organising - like that guy Russell we had a few years back but a good player in his own right too (wasn't mean to sound like an insult!).
The big runs tended to go Garrett's side. It's the only thing you can nitpick with Myles but I'll take that and the absolutely phenomenal pressure he creates every day and twice on Sundays (Thursdays). Seeing the kind of guy he comes across as he'll work his derriere off to correct that.
Bake said it himself on the set ... Joe asked him how he did it w/o any first team reps at all last week .... actually Joe said “what makes it even more remarlkable is that u did it wth no 1st team reps last week” ....
His response ...
I’ve been in this positions before all my life ... being the back up, being prepared so i know how to do it ... starting with OTA’s and through TC I progressed each and every step of the way .... its been a progression to get to here ... just cause i couldnt start the last 3 weeks didnt mean i had to prepare any less ... i had to be ready ....
That kids gonna learn with every snap he takes ...
He didn’t;t come out and say it last night ... but he may of well have ...

Last night's #NYJvsCLE had 10.3 million viewers in the game's final 6 minutes, and was @nflnetwork's highest-rated and most-watched exclusive TNF game in more than three years.

It is. You could see the players respond to him, you could hear it in Landry's voice in his post game interview. He sounded like he has been waiting for Baker to get in the game for a while.
I am ready to give Bitonio some snaps at RB. He was carrying tacklers on that fumble recovery. Too bad it didn't count. He could have boasted the highest yards/rush on the team.
(Yes, I'm joking, before anyone freaks ..... on the other hand .... hmm ... an offensive lineman Fridge ....)

The stars aligned for me this week. Happened to be in Cleveland for work. Work was finishing up on Thursday and I wasn't going to fly back home until Friday. Managed to get tickets to the game. It was my first time at Browns stadium in almost 10 years. What game it was.
Had to get up at 5am to go to the airport today and couldn't sleep on the plane. Wish I could've hung around longer after the game. The plane had the built in tv screens and kept replaying highlights from the game.
Hopefully this is the beginning of finally being good again.
It's supposed to be hard! If it wasn't hard, everyone would do it. The hard... is what makes it great!

#Jets had ultra-aggressive game plan against Tyrod Taylor — 12 blitzes in 18 dropbacks. Worked like a charm. They remained aggressive vs Baker Mayfield (11 blitzes/24 dropbacks), but not at the same level. Mayfield’s quick release offset the blitz.

I agree, how does one put the cat back in the bag?
I don't think you can, cuz that dawg is already chasing that cat.

Holy crap that was fun. That team was finished, and Baker Mayfield literally brought them back from the dead.
That was one of the most memorable Browns games I've ever seen. It's obviously not the Jets OT game from a million years ago, but considering some of these other factors, it was huge.
I know some people are absolutely slamming Hue Jackson for not starting Mayfield in week 1, but I kinda feel like they were just lookin out for the kid. The intentions were good, but obviously they weren't playing the best quarterback.
The thing is, if you're going to redshirt your quarterback because you want him to sit a year, why was he the backup? You know Taylor runs, you know we just lost a first ballot hall of fame left tackle, you had to know this was coming.
I like Tyrod Taylor a lot, but it just wasn't working. I don't understand some of the play calling. Can he not sit back there, and look for a throw? At times he seemed hesitant, but he was skittish like you see a ton with rookie quarterbacks, especially these days when they aren't used to playing under center.
I'm sure Baker will still have moments where he struggles. The jets were taken by surprise. They really only had preseason tape, and who knows how much time they dedicated to preparing for him.
But man that kid can throw. Holy crap does he throw a really nice ball. He made some pretty big time nfl throws too. He's got unbelievable patience too. I don't know if I have ever seen an NFL player lift the spirits of an entire team like that, because that first half was something I'd like to forget happened. The body language was just awful, and you could really feel the way the crowd was becoming uneasy with each horrible play that we were running on offense. It was so hard to watch.
You could tell what the coaches think of this kid though, by letting him catch a pass on a 2 pt conversion to tie a game.
Carlos Hyde had a really solid game, and his wife deserves unbelievable praise for being cool with him taking off for a game in the middle of the birth of a child. Thrilled for that guy, and he's an absolute load when you get inside the 5 yard line.
Jarvis Landry manages to piss someone off every game, and I'm loving every single moment of it. I wish Hard Knocks stayed with this group, there would have been so much unbelievable audio last night.
Antonio Callaway is going to be pretty good. Absolute speed burner.
I have a real problem with the no-call on the Taylor to Callaway deep ball last night. I'm all for not throwing a flag on the play, but the Browns over the last few years are constantly being flagged for that kind of crap, on underthrown balls (the Joe Flacco special).
Sam Darnold is gonna be good. He was not good last night, but it seemed like they didn't want to try anything crazy, and maybe sneak out of cleveland with a win from just capitalizing off our mistakes and horrible offense. They almost did too.
I don't have a huge problem with the Crowell celebration. I laughed when it happened. I know it's childish, but I thought it was harmless, although I do agree, when you lose that game, it's a bad look.
Denzel Ward, again seems to find himself right in the middle of everything on defense. His strip fumble was a huge play in the game, wish we would have gotten 7 off of that.
Larry Ogunjobi is quietly having a great start to the season. Myles Garrett, 2 sacks, no big deal.
Joe Schobert is turning himself into a really solid player.
Special teams is still a real problem. I think they had 3 penalties, and had a punt blocked. Greg Joseph got the job done, but boy were those kicks shaky.
I think this will go down as one of those nights that everyone will remember, and hopefully will remember as this team came out of their shell.
This is just so awesome though. I seriously cannot wait for the Raider game.
A little off topic but that field looked like garbage. I know week 1 we played in a rainstorm and they tore up the field, but this is professional football, fix the field.
I know he didnt do it, maybe, lol. Could Haley have set up TT with plays he knows TT doesnt run well to get Mayfield on the field quicker?
I love our WR core of Landry, Calloway, and Higgins, in the weeks to come I could see Ratley and Willies getting more time too.
Crazy how a D has to respect the pass, magically opens the run game.
A kicker that actually got the job done.
Anybody else get the feeling on 3rd downs that Baker was gonna make the play? In the past on 3rd downs I just knew we would not get it and have to punt.
I will eat CROW, I hated the Baker pick, I wanted Darnold. After last night, and a few more games, I wont mind being wrong, go BROWNS!!! I even looked for some Baker tshirts today.

To me? The endzones looked really bad the way they were painted, but what a great game it was!
Anyone saw the play Chad Thomas played?...Def. over hyped as they were saying he sets the edge like no other...they were right he got lost and Crow shot his gap lol

was he the end during that awful few series?

Two or three Steeler fans commented on a Facebook post of mine about Baker Mayfield, something about Hue Jackson not naming Baker the starter as of yet.
You know they most likely saw something in that game that we all did, and now they're worried there might be a new bully on the block.
Some of our own fans say the same thing that Mayfield should have started game 1.
For some reason they either didn't hear or conveniently forgot that Baker said himself that the game was just beginning to slow down for him on Hard Knocks.
Silly rabbits! lol
Intoducing for The Cleveland Browns, Quarterback Deshawn "The Predator" Watson. He will also be the one to choose your next head coach.

Hue said he wasn’t talking about next game’s starter until he talked to the team. Next time team meets is Monday. I can’t imagine Baker not starting even if TT is out of concussion protocol. But TT needs to be told in person and not see it on Twitter. He has earned that respect and it’s the right thing to do.
Steeler fans really irk me sometimes. Two Labor Days ago I was with a bunch of people spending the weekend on Put in Bay. One night we were on the porch of our B and B and the valedictorian of Yinzer U was there with his significant other. He asked me where I was from and I told him Columbus, so he figured I was a Steeler fan (not sure about that logic). I tell him that I am a Browns fan. He says Pittsburgh is a great sports city because they have the Steelers and the Penguins. And Cleveland sucks. I point out Cleveland has the Cavs (this was 2 years ago) and the Indians. This guy tells me neither of those count. Can’t count the Cavs because Pittsburgh doesn’t have an NBA team. I point out that the Penguins shouldn’t count because Cleveland doesn’t have an NHL team. He calls me an idiot and says that’s completely different.
I then ask why the Indians don’t count. He says it’s because the Pirates aren’t good.
Conversation would have been better had his parents been second cousins instead of first cousins.
His girl spent the whole time gyrating in her pajamas asking if we liked what we saw. Pretty sure that was what she was asking, missing some teeth and whistled when she spoke. What she was wearing would have been too short for someone her granddaughter’s age.
So after we won this game, I have this indescribable experience that I haven't felt in a long time. Its that I believe we can legitimately win any game we step into. The last time I felt that feeling was in 2007.

Good luck effectively rhyming something with "18" for the next line.

He was a random yinzer, not mine. Buy, yeah, sounds like him. Wonder how he is spinning the Antonio Brown thing.
Yinzer is someone from the Pittsburgh area. They use “Yinz” as the plural of “you.” As in “Yinz kids quit pushing my bathroom on is side.”

Of all the nicknames we use for Steelers fans, Yinzer is by far my favorite.
Several years ago, my partner and I responded to a call from a woman who wanted to report prostitutes parking in front of her house to do their business. She said they had just moved in from out of town and wanted "yinz to know what was happening." I asked her when she had moved from Pittsburgh, and she asked, "how did you know we're from Pittsburgh?"
