I was joking Ted. Smoking is worse than heroin to me. It's my kryptonite. Started sneaking cigs when I was 8, smoked daily at 12 at about a pack a week. That year and a half was the only time I didn't smoke since then! I vaped to do that.

I'm trying not to vape, but the smoking habit is a demon. Everytime I put them down the world makes me crazy. Not an excuse, just how it is. I know what I need to do, but I can't get past needing the fix.


I know what you're saying. That's how I am with soft drinks. I quit using sugar in my sweet tea and started using stevia and it's helped but me & sugar...gonna have a box of Toffee Crunch & Munch and a bottle of Pepsi when TBBT starts.

Senator Sheldon Whitehouse, D-R.I., – you remember him, this is the guy who said that Kavanaugh’s hearing was a “sham” – explaining to CNN’s Jake Tapper on Thursday that Democrats will move to get rid of Kavanaugh if they take the Senate:

There are supposedly other boys, there is a whole investigative process that can and should take place. And, you know what, this is such bad practice that even if they were to ram this guy through, as soon as Democrats get gavels we're going to want to get to the bottom of this.

So this is never-ending. Democrats are just going to use the election as a referendum on the Supreme Court.

Sen. Elizabeth Warren, D-Mass, is fundraising off of the Ford accusations. How crazy is that?!

She sent out an email explaining, “This is outrageous. Brett Kavanaugh was already disqualified to serve on the Supreme Court." -- Of course, we don't know how.

"But now we’re learning new information about a sexual assault allegation.” This her email says, “Donate now.”

Do you know who Ford is using to advise her? Democratic operative Ricki Seidman. You may not have heard of Seidman. But she worked as Joe Biden’s communications director in 2008.

She also worked for President Obama to push Sonia Sotomayor for the Supreme Court and she also worked for the Clinton White House.

More importantly, she also worked for Senator Ted Kennedy of Massachusetts. And, according to Politico, was also involved with Anita Hill’s decision to testify against Supreme Court nominee Clarence Thomas.

And that’s where this all began. Democrats have a long, inglorious history of trotting out unverified and unverifiable allegations to fight against conservatives or Constitutional originalists.

In 1991, Democrats decided to sandbag Clarence Thomas, President George H.W. Bush’s nominee for the Supreme Court.

Democrats on the Senate Judiciary Committee sought out Anita Hill, a former staffer for Thomas at the Department of Education and the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission.

Two days after Thomas’ hearings began, Senator Joe Biden – you remember that guy! – he told the committee of allegations that Thomas had sexually harassed her.

He also said Hill insisted her name be kept anonymous (sound familiar) and that Thomas be kept in the dark about the accusations.

Just days after Thomas’ hearings closed, Hill gave a statement allowing the FBI to investigate the claims against Thomas.

The FBI determined that the allegations were unfounded. Thomas’ nomination was sent to the full Senate.

Weeks later, NPR reported on the FBI report, which leaked, and Hill testified, again, Congress. Thomas denied the allegations:

I have been wracking my brain and eating my insides out, trying to think of what I could have said or done to Anita Hill to lead her to allege that I was interested in her in more than a professional way.

Thomas wasn’t wrong. There was simply no evidence of the allegations other than Anita Hill’s allegations.

Anita Hill, by her own admission, followed Thomas from the Department of Education to the EEOC, even though she had Schedule-A attorney job protection.

She spoke with him on the phone multiple times according to phone logs after leaving the EEOC, but said she didn’t.

She asked him for a job recommendation. She also told Senators that she had been told by aides to Democratic Senators that if she came forward, Thomas might withdraw his nomination without the process going forward.

When Thomas was confirmed, the vast majority of Americans thought Thomas was more believable than Hill.

Thomas was confirmed by a Democratic Senate. Now, however, HBO makes movies about Anita Hill’s supposed bravery. And political guru Chelsea Handler says Clarence Thomas is a sexual abuser, tweeting this:

One known sexual predator on the Supreme Court isn't enough for Republicans. They want two. The president bragging about sexual assault isn't an issue for them either. They have no regard for women. No regards for their daughters or wives.

Truth be told, Thomas wasn’t the first Republican-nominated prospective justice to be destroyed on the basis of false accusations.

Robert Bork was labeled a racist and a sexist without evidence by Democrats including Teddy Kennedy and again Joe Biden. Kennedy said this:

Robert Bork's America is a land in which women would be forced into back-alley abortions, blacks would sit at segregated lunchcounters, rogue police could break down citizens doors in midnight raids and school children could not be taught about evolution.

Slanderous, disgusting, evidence-free allegations that took down Robert Bork.

Now, fast forward to 2012. We remember this one. Former Massachusetts Republican Governor Mitt Romney is running a tight, competitive race with incumbent Democrat President Barack Obama.

So Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid, D-Nev., simply slanders him by stating on the floor of the Senate that Romney hadn’t paid his taxes:

So, the word's out that he hasn't paid any taxes for 10 years. Let him prove that he has paid taxes. Because he hasn't.

Let him prove it! It's not Reid's job to prove that he didn't pay taxes. It's Romney's job to prove that he did pay taxes. You have to prove that you obeyed the law.

Reid then released a statement explaining, “As I said before, I was told by an extremely credible source that Romney has not paid taxes for ten years.”

(And I was told my an extremely credible source that Harry Reid likes to murder puppies in his backyard!)

How did Reid respond to the fact that it turns out Romney did pay his taxes and that he was an abject liar? Here's what he told CNN's Dana Bash on CNN on March 31, 2015:

Dana Bash: So, no regrets, about Mitt Romney, about the Koch brothers? Because some people have even called it McCarthy-ite.

Harry Reid: Well, they can call it whatever they want. Romney didn't win, did he?

That’s all that matters to Democrats. Not the truth. Not decency. Winning.


Pretty disgusting if this is what the Republicans are saying. No wonder why they lost the popular vote.

1. Robert Bork is one of the worst judges in the history of the US. Specifically his ideas on anti-trust is one of the reasons why US is dominated by big business.

2. Robert Bork said that he didn't think poll taxes were unconstitutional.

3. This is the big problem with Ben Shapiro. He'll drown over people with extensive rhetoric, filling it with "examples" and "history" that he knows nothing about. Like I said in the Hellen Keller thread, memorization of historical events are harmful when you don't understand the event. This is why Ben Shapiro is just a nicer, more put together Alex Jones.

Make sure you're staying hydrated. You shouldn't be losing that much weight that quickly.

Why because it's impossible for a man to be a virgin in college? I was a virgin until I was raped at the age of 23. The only person I have been with since then is my wife. It's completely possible for a man to live his life with something more important than sex.

Tail end of the sex drugs and rock-n-roll era? I grew up then, kids had lots of sex. Sure there was still an innocence, but I knew guys like him or at least what they are making him out to be. I have to say first I am appalled by the tactics being used by the left to derail Kavenaugh's supreme court nomination. They all should be ashamed to take the lies from trash like these two women. But, if they were able to derail Kavenaugh's nomination I hope they get what they deserve.

Here's what I truly don't understand about the Kavanaugh thing, and maybe someone can illuminate me -

Clearly, none of you care about Kavanaugh as a singular entity. There's no name recognition or fealty there. And clearly there isn't any concern for decency or character - that became evident when most of you more or less pushed your chips in on a slimy racist with the mind of a child and zero redeeming qualities.

You don't care about Kavanaugh as a man or an entity - the sole concern and focus is on Roe v. Wade.

So...why go through the headache of having to twist in the wind with this obviously weird and creepy guy whose ever-changing promoted alibis and narratives keep falling apart? When there's any number of qualified people you could pluck from the Fifth Circuit to fulfill the exact same end game goal?

My theory is it's merely reactionary "stick it to the opposition" culture war nonsense...because otherwise it makes zero sense.

Just look at the reports coming out about his past lifestyle. It’s the kind of background of a guy who probably paid some chick he accidentally knocked up to get an abortion back in the day.

The GOP is shrewd and effective with their court picks. It's calculated and with purpose. The purpose is pro-corporation, but they court the evangelical and religious vote by pretending they care about abortion. And they would cast the corresponding vote if given the chance.

And the notion that someone who would have or commission an abortion wouldn't work towards and vote for an abortion ban doesn't compute with reality.

The odds of Roe v. Wade actually being overturned is astronomical. The trouble is how this was all handled. Like swish said, professionals wouldn't have brought this out at the last minute. Bring it out when you have the information, plenty of time for an investigation, the allegations are lacking in evidence and you all are convicting this man before he's had his day in court.

Even these new allegations have little (so far) to stand on, but you're all sure he's guilty already.

Should these women be believed from the outset?

NO. We're constitutionally guaranteed Innocent until PROVEN guilty, right?

Should they be taken seriously and the charges investigated?

YES.

Your stick it to the opposition theory may have some substance, but why would we (if this man is genuinely found to be guilty of these things) want him around?

I disagree. There’s a reason why he wasn’t on the original list of 25 from the federalist society.

But Kavanaugh’s position changed over the next decade. He wrote a 2009 law review article that suggested a sitting president should not be subject to criminal investigations, which may have implications for the current Mueller investigation.

"Like civil suits, criminal investigations take the president’s focus away from his or her responsibilities to the people. And a president who is concerned about an ongoing criminal investigation is almost inevitably going to do a worse job as president," Kavanaugh wrote.

Trump wanted this guy for the primary reason of hoping Kavanaugh will run interference if he case for him testifying reaches the Supreme Court.

Trump has never, and will never give one flying crap about overturning roe v Wade. Every decision he makes is about self preservation.

The whole roe v Wade is a cute distraction, but I have yet to see any serious attempt of trying to overturn that at all.

But that’s why we differ on this. You’re still adamant that nothing will come from the mueller probe, so you think this was he primary reason he was appointed.

I do think something comes from this, as trump is doing everything imaginable to not have to testify.

There’s a reason why this picked was rushed, and Gorsuch’s nomination wasn’t. And it has nothing to do with roe v Wade.

Not like I follow this all that closely, but I haven't heard anything unsettling or creepy. If he didn't do it, what's he supposed to do other than deny that he did it?

Don't see what the OJ comment has to do with this.

By your logic all a girl has to do is accuse a guy and ruin his life whether it's true or not. Cause that's what you're saying y'know. And you also know that women have lied and ruined mens lives with false accusations.

Brett Kavanaugh’s page in his high school yearbook offers a glimpse of the teenage years of the man who is now President Trump’s Supreme Court nominee: lots of football, plenty of drinking, parties at the beach. Among the reminiscences about sports and booze is a mysterious entry: “Renate Alumnius.”

The word “Renate” appears at least 14 times in Georgetown Preparatory School’s 1983 yearbook, on individuals’ pages and in a group photo of nine football players, including Judge Kavanaugh, who were described as the “Renate Alumni.” It is a reference to Renate Schroeder, then a student at a nearby Catholic girls’ school.

Two of Judge Kavanaugh’s classmates say the mentions of Renate were part of the football players’ unsubstantiated boasting about their conquests.

“They were very disrespectful, at least verbally, with Renate,” said Sean Hagan, a Georgetown Prep student at the time, referring to Judge Kavanaugh and his teammates. “I can’t express how disgusted I am with them, then and now.”

Judge Kavanaugh’s years at Georgetown Prep, in a Maryland suburb of Washington, are under intense scrutiny because of allegations by Christine Blasey Ford that he sexually assaulted her during high school. Judge Kavanaugh has denied the allegation. He and Dr. Blasey are scheduled to testify Thursday before the Senate Judiciary Committee.

Judge Kavanaugh’s peers have given different accounts of what he was like. But his yearbook provides a contemporaneous glimpse of the elite Catholic school’s hard-drinking atmosphere — Judge Kavanaugh’s personal page boasts, “100 kegs or bust” — and a culture that some describe as disrespectful to women.

This month, Renate Schroeder Dolphin joined 64 other women who, saying they knew Judge Kavanaugh during their high school years, signed a letter to the leaders of the Senate Judiciary Committee, which is weighing Judge Kavanaugh’s nomination. The letter stated that “he has behaved honorably and treated women with respect.”

When Ms. Dolphin signed the Sept. 14 letter, she wasn’t aware of the “Renate” yearbook references on the pages of Judge Kavanaugh and his football teammates.

“I learned about these yearbook pages only a few days ago,” Ms. Dolphin said in a statement to The New York Times. “I don’t know what ‘Renate Alumnus’ actually means. I can’t begin to comprehend what goes through the minds of 17-year-old boys who write such things, but the insinuation is horrible, hurtful and simply untrue. I pray their daughters are never treated this way. I will have no further comment.”

Alexandra Walsh, a lawyer for Judge Kavanaugh, said in a statement: “Judge Kavanaugh was friends with Renate Dolphin in high school. He admired her very much then, and he admires her to this day.

“Judge Kavanaugh and Ms. Dolphin attended one high school event together and shared a brief kiss good night following that event,” the statement continued. “They had no other such encounter. The language from Judge Kavanaugh’s high school yearbook refers to the fact that he and Ms. Dolphin attended that one high school event together and nothing else.”

In an interview on Fox News on Monday, Judge Kavanaugh defended his high school behavior in general terms. “People might have had too many beers on occasion and people generally in high school — I think all of us have probably done things we look back on in high school and regret or cringe a bit,” he said.

A White House spokesman, Raj Shah, declined to comment beyond the statement from Judge Kavanaugh’s lawyer.

Four of the men who were pictured with Judge Kavanaugh in a photo captioned “Renate Alumni” said it was simply a reference to their dating or going to dances with Ms. Dolphin.

An elite Catholic boys’ high school founded in 1789, Georgetown Prep has many alumni who have gone into public service. Justice Neil M. Gorsuch of the Supreme Court is a graduate, as is Jerome H. Powell, chairman of the Federal Reserve.

Judge Kavanaugh, a member of the football team and the captain of the basketball team, played a prominent role in Georgetown Prep’s firmament in the early 1980s. The school’s culture was one of heavy drinking and at times insensitivity.

The 1983 yearbook, for example, includes multiple apparent references to the Ku Klux Klan (but not on Judge Kavanaugh’s page). His page, in addition to the “Alumnius” entry, mentions his role as “treasurer” of the “Keg City Club.”

“The vast majority of the time I spent in high school was studying or focused on sports and being a good friend to the boys and the girls that I was friends with,” he told Fox News on Monday.

Some of Judge Kavanaugh’s high school peers said there was a widespread culture at the time of objectifying women.

“People claiming that they had sex with other people was not terribly unusual, and it was not terribly believable,” said William Fishburne, who was in Judge Kavanaugh’s graduating class and was a manager for the football team. “Not just Brett Kavanaugh and his particular group, but all the classmates in general. People would claim things they hadn’t done to sort of seem bigger than they were, older than they were.”

Bill Barbot, who was a freshman at Georgetown Prep when Judge Kavanaugh was a senior, said Judge Kavanaugh and his clique were part of the school’s “fratty” culture. “There was a lot of talk and presumably a lot of action about sexual conquest with girls,” Mr. Barbot said.

Ms. Dolphin was a subject of that braggadocio, according to Mr. Hagan and another classmate, who requested anonymity because he fears retribution. They said Judge Kavanaugh and his friends were seeking to memorialize their supposed conquests with the “Renate” yearbook references.

“She should be offended,” Mr. Hagan said of Ms. Dolphin. “I was completely astounded when I saw she signed that letter” on Judge Kavanaugh’s behalf.

Some women who knew Judge Kavanaugh at the time defended his conduct.

“These guys weren’t any different than other boys high schools across the country,” said Suzanne Matan, a friend of Judge Kavanaugh’s from their high school days. “And I chose to hang out with those boys and many other girls did, too, because they were fun, and they were safe, and they were respectful.”

The Georgetown Prep yearbook’s personal pages were designed and written by the individual students, according to alumni. A faculty adviser reviewed the pages.

Judge Kavanaugh was one of 13 graduating seniors who referred to Ms. Dolphin in some way on their personal pages. Some gave themselves titles — DeLancey Davis, for example, listed himself as “chairman of the Bored” of the “Renate Club.” Another football player, Tom Kane, mentioned on his page “Renate’s Suicide Squad.”

The group photo, with Judge Kavanaugh and eight fellow football players in pads and uniform, grinning, was captioned “Renate Alumni.” Mark Judge, the commentator and author who has written about his alcohol-fueled years at Georgetown Prep, stands next to Judge Kavanaugh in the photo.

Barbara Van Gelder, a lawyer for Mr. Judge, declined to comment.

Four of the players in the “Renate Alumni” photo — Mr. Davis, Mr. Kane, Tim Gaudette and Don Urgo Jr. — said in a statement that they had “never bragged about” sexual contact or anything like that with Ms. Dolphin. The statement, issued by Jim McCarthy, a public-relations representative, said the yearbook’s “Renate” references “were intended to allude to innocent dates or dance partners and were generally known within the community of people involved for over 35 years.”

“These comments,” the statement continued, “were never controversial and did not impact ongoing relationships until The Times twisted and forced an untrue narrative. This shabby journalism is causing egregious harm to all involved, particularly our friend, and is simply beneath contempt.”

Michael Walsh, another Georgetown Prep alumnus, also listed himself on his personal yearbook page as a “Renate Alumnus.” Alongside some song lyrics, he included a short poem: “You need a date / and it’s getting late / so don’t hesitate / to call Renate.”

Mr. Walsh, a bank executive in Virginia, was one of scores of Georgetown Prep alumni who signed a letter to Senate Judiciary Committee leaders vouching for Judge Kavanaugh’s “sharp intellectual ability, affable nature, and a practical and fair approach devoid of partisan purpose.” He did not respond to requests for comment.

Ms. Dolphin was aware that members of Judge Kavanaugh’s clique were reciting that poem, according to a person familiar with her thinking. She told the football players that she found it offensive, believing it made her seem like a cheap date, and she asked them to stop.

Some of Judge Kavanaugh’s peers said they doubted that the yearbook notations were good-natured. “Those guys weren’t big on crushes,” Mr. Fishburne said. “I think they felt that if a girl didn’t want to date them, then they must be gay. I’m serious.”

A high school friend of Ms. Dolphin’s, who also signed the letter to the Senate Judiciary Committee, said that while she stood by the letter’s contents, as a friend of Ms. Dolphin’s she was “sickened” by the yearbook’s “Renate” references. She and a second friend of Ms. Dolphin’s denied that there was any sexual contact between Ms. Dolphin and Judge Kavanaugh or anyone else in his circle.

This is all one quick descent into political hell.

The Democrats decided to make federal judges subject to a simple majority.

The Republicans then decided to make Supreme Court nominees subject to a simple majority.

Democrats are slinging really disgusting stuff against a man, on the most flimsy of so called evidence.

What happens the next time the Democrats have the Senate, and a Democrat President nominates a candidate for the Supreme Court. You guys don't think that the Republicans are going to have a long memory, and play the revenge game right back?

Our politics are plummeting into the 8th and 9th circles of Dante's Inferno ..... Fraud and Treachery. It's a shame, because what good person is going to want to serve? Who is going to want to be dragged into hell like this?

It is a sad time for our Republic. I am for protecting victim's rights, but this is so plainly political, and none of this woman's so called witnesses witnessed anything like she states. There is no evidence, anywhere. She isn't even sure when or where it supposedly happened. However, he's guilty. I fear a country where a man is guilty only based on an accusation.

As an aside, the local police department, who would have jurisdiction over the 1st accusation, has still not had the supposed victim, or her attorney, ask them to investigate.

Feinstein sat on this letter for months. the professional thing to do is this:

I wanted to replay this post because Swish is pointing out something extremely important, something that I think many other posters are going to willingly turn a blind eye to, then act like they didn't see it coming when the tables are turned.

There's only 1 of 2 things happening here:

1) a legitimate victim is being exploited for political purposes, by people who don't actually care about what happened to her and in a manner that will deprive her of any justice that could be had.

2) An innocent man is being ruined and his family is being subjected to abhorrent, disgusting behavior and being put through a traumatic experience for again, political reasons.

What again is supposed to be this "greater good" that using these methods is going to bring about?

"Weaponized" isn't just some FoxNews buzzword.. it's dead accurate. We're (but largely the left is) going own this path of "the ends justifies the means" mentality in the approach to social and political issues. And what we are seeing with accusers presented by Democrats is really the equivalent of "political suicide bombers". Real victim or fake, what they've done is convince these people to sacrifice themselves to the scrutiny of the public, politics, and media and they'll be rewarded on the back end (money, "justice" being served, (fill in the blank) etc). Meanwhile the politicians exploit the chaos and destruction that results.. in furtherance of a political ideology

Provocative language to be sure, but I don't use it lightly. The parallels are there. They can't win by conventional means and so they toss bomb in the middle of it all, collateral damage and innocent people be damned.

Me either, I will not say one way or another as I haven't heard her story for myself. All I have is what I have seen written, which hasn't been to compelling to make a case either way yet.


What have the Dems done other than bring the accusations to light and demand an investigation? The dems didn't do these things, Kavanaugh is accused of doing them. The dems didn't make the accusations.


Feinstein sat on this letter for months. the professional thing to do is this:

"hey Trump, i just received a letter from a woman accusing your nominee of sexual assault. i want to give you a heads up about this, so you can do more vetting or find another nominee. but just to give you professional courtesy, if you continue on with this nominee, then i will have to bring up the allegations at the hearing".

that is how PROFESSIONALS act. that is how we need to demand our politicians act.

but to wait til the 3rd day of the hearing to bring this up? its absolutely disgusting.

its pathetic in every sense of the word. the dems effectively WEAPONIZED the #metoo movement. we're talking about a something that goes underreported because women have been marginalized and victim-blamed for decades over this issue.

to politicize it demonstrates to a lot of people that the dems aren't actually serious in taking sexual allegations seriously. because if they were, they wouldve brought it up WHEN THEY GOT THE LETTER.

they politicized this, and while short term it might be a "win" for the dems (i hate using that term with regards to sexual assault), long term the people aren't gonna forget this, ESPECIALLY if nothing comes of it, and Kavanaugh is confirm as a SC judge anyway.

again, the issue is NOT with the accuser. the issue falls squarely on the democrats conduct during this whole situation.

I see your point and Swish's. What i don't see is the blame on the right for not allowing a proper investigation and taking time to get it right. Blame the dems for how and when the accusations came to light if you want; but the process is 100% controlled by the GOP.

There is an old saying that when you point a finger there are 3 fingers pointing back at you. I think that saying applies.
