shotgun runs are kinda like PA in reverse, you prepare as its a pass play and you can run out of it.. If we can run it effectively from the gun and Baker is more comfortable there, i see no reason not to. League average is a notch above 60 percent for all snaps..we currently are at 56% GB at 95% so obviously it can work.. KC is almost 80%. The new NFL doesn't care about under center near as much as 5+ years ago.

Tomorrow is the most important thing in life. Comes into us at midnight very clean. It's perfect when it arrives and it puts itself in our hands. It hopes we've learned something from yesterday. -John Wayne
our run game might have a better shot now IMO ... teams may be more reticent to stack the box and play so close
BrownsFilmBreakdown ‏@BrownsFilmBDN Again, we talk about how the box looks during run game often. How does our formation play into numbers. Well, count the Jets number of box players here and we might get a feel for why this one goes for -3 yards. 1st half Jets played downhill with ZERO fear. #BrownsFilmBDN
And....
BrownsFilmBreakdown @BrownsFilmBDN Everyone asks if the schemes changed when Mayfield entered the game. Nope. They run IZ as one of their staple run plays all year. The difference is a less crowded box & the run lanes that open when 2nd & 3rd level defenders respect the pass anywhere on the field.
It's hard to dissect... Are they better out of the shotgun because we throw 80% of the time and a run is unexpected? Are Hyde's inflated numbers a reflection of that + a couple chunk plays in a young season? Probably not - he's always been good out of the shotgun.
Things we can be fairly sure of... we will (at least over the next few games) be very lopsided in plays out of the shotgun. Baker has shown, and will be much more comfortable out of the shotgun. From under center - we will need at least 30% passes or runs will be a dead giveaway.
Teams that have been nearly exclusive out of the shotgun - have not been very good. San Francisco 2016 was 2-14... ran 98% out of shotgun... offense was anemic. GB this year should be winless... 95% from shotgun.
That same 2016 49ers team had one bright spot ~ Carlos Hyde... 988 yards at 4.55 per carry. Maybe the FO targeted him because we knew between TT and BM, we would be working out of the shotgun most of the time.
From what I've seen (breaking down stats) the most successful teams don't go far over 75% in either formation... and are about 70% RUN under center and 70% PASS out of shotgun. The teams that are way over 70% PASS out of shotgun have gifted QBs and the moxie to dare you to stop them.
Bottom line. As Vers said, being predictable is not smart, the caveat being that if you're so good they can't stop you. As long as Hyde continues to have success in the shotgun (and Duke as well), I don't think predictability matters in the short term. This Sunday will be interesting...
Here are some stats related to your post, for what they're worth.
Micah 6:8; He has shown you, O mortal, what is good. And what does the Lord require of you? To act justly and to love mercy, and to walk humbly with your God.
John 14:19 Jesus said: Because I live, you also will live.
“To announce that there must be no criticism of the President, or that we are to stand by the President, right or wrong, is not only unpatriotic and servile, but is morally treasonable to the American public.”
Dearest Mother: #Browns Co. prepares to march into California Territory. A band of #Raiders has set up base of operations in a land of oaks; my orders are to disperse them. They are led by a maniac calling himself "Chucky" who recently exiled his best trooper. Odd. -- Baker
Of the 22 quarterbacks selected with the top overall pick in the NFL Draft, only four won in their first ever start. They haven’t performed any better ATS, going 3-15 since 1985, the first year that spread statistics were kept.
i guess i'm one of the few who is scared about all the crazy hype mayfield is getting.
You're not. I'm concerned as well that folks went from wondering about Baker, to wishing for Baker, to now expecting Baker to light it up every week... and anything short of lighting it up will be viewed as a disappointment.
He's going to have ups and downs, especially this year as teams start to figure him out and he starts to adjust...
I think that most people are excited about what Baker can do, and justifiably so.
I think that they'll be realistic in their expectations ...... say maybe .....400 yards passing, 4 TD, and no INT against the Raiders ......... but only if he also gets a rushing TD.

Haha, I heard he ran up to #10 in jersey sales, those kind of numbers would get him in the top five haha.

I know what you mean, but I wouldn't called it scared......I call it hope. We have been hoping for a long time, but I think this kid has it.
He has a winner mentality and the talent, but no, he is still a rook and is going to make mistakes. He will make them 15 years from now for that matter.
Just go for the ride my friend. I feel pretty good about this. You have to admit it is looking pretty good right now. This is no knock on TT, but it looked a whole lot different when the Bake entered the game.
Maybe he becomes a Browns legend, maybe he becomes another name on a jersey, but today, right now, it looks pretty darn good.
Right?
Go with that is my theory.
If everybody had like minds, we would never learn.
"First down inside the 10. A score here will put us in the Super Bowl. Jeudy is far to the left as Njoku settles into the slot. Tillman is flanked out wide to the right. Judkins and Ford are split in the backfield as Flacco takes the snap ... Here we go."
Just looked it up ... that Thursday night victory at Cincinnati in 2014 capped off a THREE game winning streak

I love the title of this thread..I don't have much to say... Like I said in another thread about Baker..Is one week and one game at a time...
But I really love this thread title...lol Thumbs up !!!
Everyone realize, He has one "two point conversion", and no touchdowns accounted for yet, in his pro career.
Yet he did lead some positive drives which ended in rush td's. On the other hand, everyone who said he would struggle against NFL coverages, I think we have seen some of that.
Can Deshaun Watson play better for the Browns, than Baker Mayfield would have? ... Now the Games count.

He's bound to find adversity and have some troubles, he's human, there's no avoiding it. It's the upside and potential everyone is so elated about. We have what we've not had in years and years, hope.
i love how Hyped Cris Carter is when talking about baker mayfield.
again, i'm worried about all the hype, but its really nice to get some national media love cause we have guys like Mayfield, Landry, and Garrett that these guys are raving about all week.
i use to have to change the channel when a browns segment comes on, IF we ever got talked about in the first place, cause i already knew they were gonna trash us the entire time.
THANK YOU JOHN DORSEY

even he cant hold it back. he knows what time it is.

I'm scared also, cause you know most of the media is waiting for Mayfield to fail and this way they can Pile on the Browns as their go to patsy.
What I do know, the kid is working hard, harder than any other rookie QB that we had or just as hard cause you can't work harder. He is not letting the hype go to his head. I Just hope that he can make the reads that we have given him...See the blitzes and BURN THEM! Got to keep the game slow for him. So it will be intense out there but he shines in the intense moments. There is a reason why Dorsey took him overall #1
So I'm scared and nervous cause the kid is good and we deserve GOOD for a change. We've earned it as fans. We are the walk ons who make the team. So is Baker he might be from Texas, but he is molded in the shape of a True Brown's fan. chip on the shoulder and never giving up.
jmho
Defense wins championships. Watson play your butt off! Go Browns! CHRIST HAS RISEN! GM Strong! & Stay safe everyone!
That Chris Carter piece captures what I'm seeing and feeling about Mayfield's potential. I enjoyed the insight about being a surgeon vs. a thrower. That will be a significant part of his development.
I like how 6 months ago I thought this guy was unbeleiveable, out of this world and a can't miss, while the large majority seemed to think,
He's got questions, his game won't translate into the NFL, all the throws he made in college won't be there, the other guy is a better choice, etc.
And now 6 months later, I'm starting to think he has questions, some of the throws aren't there vs NFL coverages, he still has to prove his game will translate.
and the large majority seem to think, he's going to be unbelievable, out of this world, a can't miss.
Can Deshaun Watson play better for the Browns, than Baker Mayfield would have? ... Now the Games count.
well, either you're going to be really right, and then wrong or really wrong, and then right ... or ... well, now I'm confused

People have often accused the media of dissing the Browns, but that's hilarious!
We earned that. We have been putrid! Unless people wanted the media to just make BS up, what else were they supposed to say? After two entire seasons of terrible football, our team payed exactly one compete half of very good football. One half!
And just look at the results! The media is gushing over the Browns! Everyone loves a great comeback story. The media is and has been dying to give the Browns love. The problem is, they can't do that when you play crappy football.
Respect is earned not given. (sorry to break the news to you millennials)
Just look at how quickly the media is trying to give us that respect. All the Browns have to do is keep playing well and build off of the one half of football and the respect will come in bunches.
Intoducing for The Cleveland Browns, Quarterback Deshawn "The Predator" Watson. He will also be the one to choose your next head coach.
I meant, no td's that he ran or passed for. (edit:, or Caught!)
He also threw for 200 yards in basically one half, hit 70% of his passes, converted a ton of 3rd downs, hit guys in very tight NFL windows, and missed a touchdown by one yard.
You are being really, really picky. You are being contrarian for no good reason.
Dude is a total slime ball. I used to listen to him - but he's nearly as bad as Skip or Hammer and that's the lowest of the low. Switch off whenever they are on. Their shock jock outrageous takes are intended to enrage and polarize ... and if you react they think they have won ... so switch off, it's the only sensible course of action.
