missed last weeks breakdown, but oh well, its rivalry week!!

on sunday, we play the Ravens, who are now 3-1 after defeated the steelers on sunday night football.

here's the depth chart of the offense and defense.

http://www.espn.com/nfl/team/depth/_/name/bal/

Offense:

Overall rank: 10th, 396 yards a game.

pass: 8th, 307.8 per game
rush: 23rd, 89 per game
scoring: 5th, 30.8 per game

So, we have a big problem coming up, especially with their pass game. Flacco looks to be having a vintage Flacco season with borderline elite QB play this year. Flacco is tossing 64% at a pretty good 7.32 yards per pass, with 8 TD's and 2 picks on the year so far.

however, he's also fumbled the ball twice, and has been sacked 9 times. so right now, our Defensive line is gonna be crucial to stopping the ravens offense. thats going to be a tough task for the defense if they can't consistently get there, as we lost our 2nd best corner, and John Brown, Crabtree, and Willie Snead are having a good seasons right now. Our secondary is gonna have a rough game if we can't get to flacco early. Their run game, led by Alex Collins, might not be good, but its serviceable, and when Lamar gets on the field, it tends to open up their run game for that series.

we've now allowed 2 running backs to have over 100 yards rushing on us, so this could get ugly for the defense if we aren't careful.

Defense:

overall rank: 2nd, 275.8 yards a game

pass defense: 4th, 193.3 per game
Rush defense: 4th, 92.5 per game
scoring: T-3rd, allowing 16.3 per game
interceptions: 8th, 4 picks
sacks: T-12th, 10 sacks

only one Fumble recovery.

this defense is good, however, they do have trouble getting to the QB for periods of the game. however, their secondary is playing lock down ball right now, as they are giving up a whooping 69.1 QB rating to opposing QB's. This is gonna be a tough tough game for Baker mayfield, as this will be the toughest defense he will face to date, possibly the entire season, as we obviously have to play them twice.

Eric Weddle and Suggs are the heart and soul of the defense, and CJ mosley is have a good season. we're all painfully aware of what suggs is capable of, so both our tackles are gonna have a tough task ahead of them.

****if anybody has anything to add on their defense, please please please post****

overall, this could be a slug fest defensive battle, or it could get ugly for us. There are serious questions about our receivers ability to actually catch passes, as Landry is also having a slight problem. We are a very young team going against a very experienced Ravens team, who are keeping pace with the bengals for #1 in the division. i see a low scoring game, around 20-13 or 17-14. However, if our defense continues giving up big yards, the ravens could blow us out early.

questions on offense:

- Can we eliminate turnovers on offense?

- will our receivers finish catches?

- can we run the ball effectively?

- can we commit to the run?

- will baker get fooled by complex defensive schemes?

- can our LT/RT hold up against their pass rushers?

- will David Njoku ever show up?

on defense:

- Can we stuff the run?

- Can our D line create pressure early enough to rattle Flacco into bad throws?

- Will our secondary get exposed again?

- Can our LB's cover the flats and TE's effectively?

- Will we get fooled when lamar jackson comes in on his assigned packages?

- Can our corners cover Crabtree and Brown?

Of course their best DB is now coming back .. I forgot about that

"First down inside the 10. A score here will put us in the Super Bowl. Jeudy is far to the left as Njoku settles into the slot. Tillman is flanked out wide to the right. Judkins and Ford are split in the backfield as Flacco takes the snap ... Here we go."

One of the best teams in the league. Chalk full of veterans, play makers at every level of offense and defense.

This is not Oakland, this is a rock solid football team.

When I see guys like Willie Snead (Former Brown) and Tony Jefferson (guy who turned the Browns offer down to take less money) and even Eric Weddle (who we didn't even try to sign) it's just annoying and sad how all of the turnover with this organization has just destroyed our talent and depth.

Sorry. You guys chose to back the name callers and thread hijackers last week. It's become a matter of principle now. I'm tired of being called a liar, a deceiver, a psychotic, and a homosexual.

You can talk Brown's football w/the group that is driving me out. Namely, Memphis, WSU, eotab, and arch.

Enjoy!

His numbers look good ... the WR groups is by far the best he’s had as a group ... he has no S. Smith but he has Tree, Brown and Snead .. none that scare u but as a group there the best he’s had ...

My question is ... they’ve played the Jills, Stilers, Bungles and Denver ....

Denver’s a pretty dang good D ... the other 3 .. not so much ... are they good or are have they just only played against once decent D?

DL is the key ... just like it will be most of the year ... as u pointed out ...there OL is not very good ... there tackles really struggle ... MG, Obi and Ogbah need to bring the heat ...

Hubbard scares the crap out of me ... he’s gonna need help ... Harrison may also but i trust him more than i do Hubbard ...

There D got torn up by the Bungles ... i’m Hoping we get that D on Sunday ...

I dont think they blow us out ... i don’t think there that much better than us ...

There coming off the Stiler rivalry game as u pointed out ... they have New Orlean next week ... hopefully they’ll look past us ...

I’ll be back later to answer your questions ...

It might seem obvious, but Flacco is a completely different QB when he’s pressured.

Completely .... no ... but u all ready now that ...

I don’t expect anymore center exchange problems ... i don’t expect any “pressure fumbles” this week ...

No slips ...

So we should eliminate those ... the picks ... like i said ... were gonna find out just how advanced our pup is ...

Vice Grips - YES ...
Higgins i’m Pretty confident in ...
Callaway is gonna be a career problem IMO ... i really hope he don’t turn out to be a mini Gordon ... dude seems aloof to me and he’s not ready ... if we had another playmaker Callaway would be brought along slowly ... and he needs that ... were asking him to do things he’s not ready for IMO .. unfortunately we have no other choice right now ...

Ya ... unless he’s really advanced ...

Hubbards gonna need help and Harrison may ....

Quote:

No .. he’s done for at least the year ... maybe his career ... the drops are in his head and will remain there the rest of the year ... it may last the rest of his career ...

We really need DeValve to get healthy ..

One of the big keys to me ... we have to stop the run and make them one dimensional ... if not were gonna have a real uphill climb ...

Quote:
- Can our D line create pressure early enough to rattle Flacco into bad throws?

YES SIR .... it sure can ... and it has too ....

Quote:
- Will our secondary get exposed again?

If we dont pressure Flacco ... yup ... no doubt ...

Quote:
- Can our LB's cover the flats and TE's effectively?

Flats ... NO ...

TE’s ... a lot of that has to do with weather Hayden Hurst can play and of so how healthy he is ... if he can’t play the rest of their TE’s aren’t that atheletic and we’ll have a pretty god shot of shutting them down ....

Quote:
- Will we get fooled when lamar jackson comes in on his assigned packages?

Ahhhh ... good question ... hmmmm ... fooled .. not sure .. will be able to stop them .. thats another story ... *L* ...

Quote:
- Can our corners cover Crabtree and Brown?

Ward can cover either ... other DB can prolly cover tree ... brown ... not a shot in hell ...

Snead is quick and not bad .... he could be the big problem ...

I think we have a DECENT SHOT in this one ... were not near as bad as most are saying right now ... most get too high after a W and to low after an L ...

I’m looking forward to a very competitive game and hopefully a few balls will bounce our way and we can pull one out ...

Why is commiting to the run a good thing? We finally have a good QB, we should be putting the ball in his hands as much as possible.

I believe the Ravens are only 1.5 point favorites. That's pretty low.

It's NOT just putting pressure on Flacco.

Gaines is replacing Mitchell. You've seen alot of Bills games. Gaines is a SOLID CB.

Greg Williams needs to go back to getting Gaines and Ward tight to the LOS again. We went way 2 soft Zone Sunday. Put PRESSURE on Flacco AND THEIR WR'S.

It's Ward's game. PRESSURE.

Reason I say go TIGHT TO THE LOS is this.

Even if we get burnt a couple times, we finally have a QB that can COME BACK FROM IT.

If that is correct, then I am surprised. I would think we would be much less favored or them moreso. We could help this D if we had some drives with points.

If it isn't a runaway, I expect the refs find a way to step in during the fourth quarter again. Just hate to see the blind Ratbird luck and stupid breaks we have given them.

PS Beating on crybaby Harbaugh is great fun. Y'all should try it sometime.

Two things that really scare me about the Ravens..

First is Suggs as an edge rusher. He forces multiple fumbles a year by speed rushing the outside and stripping the QB... We need to chip him back to the inside as often as possible.. giving up the sack isn't the end of the world but if he gets behind Baker close enough, he will force fumbles.

Second is that their passing game spreads the ball around a lot. You can't focus on one or two guys.. granted, Brown is a big play machine so you have to watch him.. but they have plenty of other guys who can hurt you catching the ball... I think we will see many more of the dump offs and shallow crosses that killed us last week.

2nd in the league in rushing. baker is good but he's still a rookie. there's no reason to put him in complex situations if we don't have to.

Get to Flacco, he’s playing well but he will turn it over. I agree with a previous post - we have to play more man and hope we at least pressure Flacco into errors. On O, this will be a telling game just in the maturation process. We cannot give up the ball, short fields. I’d like to see more PA and just smashing them in the mouth but Haley knows the Ravens so I’ll trust him on that. We’re not a million miles away which is more frustrating than what we saw past few years.

This is a fantasy breakdown, but it has some good insight into what both teams tendencies are:

Quote:
Baltimore @ Cleveland
Team Totals: Ravens 24.5, Browns 21.5

Baker Mayfield admirably fought through a whopping nine drops by would-be pass catchers, Cleveland’s sudden defensive collapse, and his own four turnovers in last week’s overtime loss at Oakland, still managing to move the ball consistently in a QB20 fantasy finish. He’ll get a tougher Week 5 test versus a Ravens defense that gets back top CB Jimmy Smith after holding Pittsburgh’s previously-on-fire offense to a solitary touchdown drive at Heinz Field last week. To-date quarterback results allowed by Baltimore are QB22 (Ben Roethlisberger) > QB31 (Case Keenum) > QB8 (Andy Dalton) > QB33 (Nathan Peterman-Josh Allen). Mayfield is a back-end two-quarterback-league play. … Carlos Hyde enters Week 5 on pace for a career high 348 touches with weekly snap rates that have climbed in each game (53% > 58% > 58% > 61%). As Hyde is averaging a career-low 3.43 yards per carry and ranks 29th among 38 qualified running backs in Football Outsiders’ rushing Success Rate, however, fantasy owners must begin sweating increased usage for rookie Nick Chubb, who broke off 63- and 41-yard touchdown sprints against the Raiders. Nevertheless, Hyde’s consistent volume locks him in as an every-week RB2 until something changes. Chubb hasn’t so much as touched the ball in the red zone, while Hyde leads the NFL in carries inside the five (9). Hyde’s matchup is imposing versus Baltimore, which got back difference-making run stoppers MLB C.J. Mosley (knee) and NT Michael Pierce (foot) in Week 4 and has held enemy running backs to a combined 75/271/1 (3.61 YPC) rushing line and the NFL’s third-fewest receiving yards (81).

Mayfield’s 2018 target distribution: Jarvis Landry 19; Antonio Callaway 14; David Njoku 9; Duke Johnson and Rashard Higgins 8; Darren Fells 2; Hyde 2. … Landry runs 72% of his routes in the slot, where PFF has charged Ravens slot CB Tavon Young with completions allowed on 10-of-13 targets for 131 yards and two TDs. As Hyde is unlikely to churn out sustaining runs against Baltimore’s front, Landry projects as Cleveland’s best means of moving the chains. … Callaway was Mayfield’s main dropped-pass culprit at Oakland, letting three balls bounce off his hands and fumbling a punt after a similarly mistake-filled Week 3. Callaway’s big-play potential is undeniable – he flamed Raiders CB Gareon Conley for a 59-yard gain to set up Hyde’s one-yard score last week – but coaches have said the miscues will begin costing him snaps. Callaway is a boom-bust WR4/flex play against Baltimore’s stout perimeter corners, infused by Smith’s return. … The best place to attack the Ravens’ defense is in the middle of the field, where they’ve allowed the NFL’s tenth-most catches to tight ends (20), including a perfect 6/85/0 stat line on six targets to Steelers TEs last Sunday night. Njoku led Cleveland in Week 4 catches (5), ranks top ten among tight ends in Air Yards (191), and is a viable low-end TE1 in this above-par draw. Promisingly, Njoku checked in as Week 5’s No. 2 buy-low tight end in Josh Hermsmeyer’s predictive Air Yards model.

Joe Flacco visits Cleveland having accounted for multiple touchdowns in eight of his last nine starts with weekly fantasy results of QB10 (Bills) > QB12 (Bengals) > QB20 (Broncos) > QB12 (Steelers), showing a limited ceiling but mostly-solid floor. Although the upstart Browns defense equaled its takeaway total (13) from the entire 2017 season in the third quarter of last week’s loss to Oakland, DC Gregg Williams’ unit wound up getting shredded by previously-struggling Derek Carr for 437 yards and four TDs, good for Carr’s season-best QB4 finish. As just three of Carr’s 35 completions and 363 of his yards came on passes thrown within 20 yards of the line of scrimmage, Carr’s performance is not necessarily repeatable by a Ravens passing game that counts on deep threat John Brown for its heavy lifting. Among pass catchers with at least ten targets, Brown’s 22.1-yard Average Depth of Target (aDOT) ranks highest in the league. Back on the road after last Sunday night’s emotional primetime win over Pittsburgh, this is a potential letdown spot for Baltimore’s offense. … Alex Collins was benched for almost the entire second quarter against the Steelers after losing his second goal-line fumble of the year. All told, Collins has fumbled six times – losing four – across 288 touches as a Raven. Collins and Javorius Allen finished Week 4 with 12 touches apiece in what is likely to remain a near-even RBBC. Cleveland offers a mediocre matchup after yielding a moderate 109/444/4 (4.07 YPC) rushing line and the NFL’s 13th-most receiving yards (196) to running backs in Weeks 1-4. Collins is a high-risk flex option, especially after reporters observed him getting around gingerly due to a knee injury in Friday's practice. Allen remains the favorite for targets and scoring-position work and is an underrated RB2/flex.

Flacco’s Weeks 1-4 target distribution: Michael Crabtree 34; John Brown 30; Willie Snead 26; Allen 19; Nick Boyle 16; Mark Andrews 13; Maxx Williams 12; Collins 10. … Brown put on yet another show in Week 4’s upset win, torching Joe Haden for an early 33-yard score before catching a play-action bomb for 71 yards deep down the middle. Brown doesn’t even lead the Ravens in raw targets, but his 662 Air Yards rank third in the NFL, and his five end-zone targets are by-far most on the team. An every-week WR2, Brown’s Week 5 matchup is upgraded by Cleveland’s loss of RCB Terrance Mitchell (wrist). … Even with four more targets, Crabtree’s Air Yards (334) are roughly half as many as Brown’s, and his scoring-position role hasn’t materialized with just two red-zone targets and one inside the ten. Flacco overthrew Crabtree on a would-be 44-yard TD in last week’s first half, overestimating what’s left of the declining possession receiver’s speed. Crabtree is a humdrum WR4/flex with low yardage and touchdown ceilings. … Albeit for 56 scoreless yards, Snead caught six more balls at Pittsburgh and has a superior seasonal receiving line (18/198/1) to Crabtree’s (18/184/1). Snead is a PPR-specific WR4/flex. … Although first-round pick Hayden Hurst (foot) is slated for his debut, he figures to return in a rotation after Williams was among Baltimore’s most-critical pass catchers in last Sunday night’s win at Heinz Field, and Boyle is valued as a blocker. With very few exceptions, tight-end committees are fantasy situations to avoid.

Score Prediction: Ravens 21, Browns 20

I just skimmed this thread, so I didn't read it really carefully. Also, I just watched the NFL Game Pass condensed version of the Ravens/Steelers game.

What I noticed is the Ravens pass protection is outstanding. This is why Flacco is playing so well. Defeating their pass protection looks like the key to the game to me. Containing John Brown with coverage and making Flacco uncomfortable in the pocket have to be a priority for the Browns if they are going to win. I think its doable but it has to be a focus and we have to execute.

Browns defensive end Myles Garrett determined to finish after close calls vs. Raiders: ‘It was killing me’

BEREA — Myles Garrett came so close to registering a game-changing sack in crunch time Sunday against Oakland Raiders quarterback Derek Carr that he was still shaking his head about it five days later.

“It was killing me,” Garrett said Friday as the Browns (1-2-1) prepared for Sunday’s home game against the Baltimore Ravens (3-1). “I felt like I was making the hair on the back of his neck stand up. I could have grazed him a couple times.

“I probably grabbed him or put my hand on his shoulder as he was releasing the ball. There were a couple times if he just took another half a second, quarter of a second, I would have had him.”

Defensive coordinator Gregg Williams explained there was pretty much nothing more Garrett could have done to complete one of those potential sacks late in the 45-42 overtime loss.

“We had a couple of things in coverage at the end that the ball was supposed to be held a fraction longer,” Williams said. “We made two alignment errors on two of those plays that Myles is putting him down.”

The good news for Garrett is he’s convinced Ravens quarterback Joe Flacco will be easier to sack than Carr.

“Carr’s one of the fastest getting it off, and we were split seconds away from getting to him. So we have to make sure we rush as well as we did last week, and we should get there often,” said Garrett, who gave himself a grade of B minus or C plus for the first quarter of the season in which he tallied 4.5 of the Browns’ 12 sacks.

Rookie linebacker Genard Avery has a similar scouting report on the Ravens.

“They’re a great team,” Avery said. “Their offensive line, they’ve got some key players, but it’s a lot of stuff that they do bad on my perspective when I’m rushing. They give up the inside a lot.

“Flacco holds the ball a long time, so ... we’ve just got to do our job and, you know, opportunities will come up for sacks.”

The Browns are also expecting opportunities to face Ravens rookie quarterback Lamar Jackson. He’s appeared in all four games, completing 1-of-4 passes for 24 yards, rushing 13 times for 62 yards (4.8 average) and taking one sack.

“Get ready to wrap up,” Garrett said. “Don’t try to dance with him. He’s quicker and faster than you think.

“He’s not going to have ball security as well as you’d say a running back or a receiver, somebody that has their hand on the ball all the time. Try to take the ball away from him.”

Speaking of forced fumbles, on third-and-9 from the Raiders 42-yard line, Garrett and Avery split a sack on Carr with 5:54 left in the fourth quarter, but the Browns were robbed. Carr had the ball knocked away, and defensive tackle Larry Ogunjobi picked it up and began running toward the end zone. However, the officials prematurely ruled the play dead.

Al Riveron, the NFL’s senior vice president of officiating, admitted the error in a media video distributed Friday.

“We rule [Carr] stopped for forward progress, and we kill the play. This is not forward progress. Obviously, this is a fumble,” Riveron said. “We should have not have blown the whistle, but because we ruled forward progress on the play, this play is not reviewable. This play would only be reviewable if it pertains to the line to gain or the goal line.”

Garrett said, “For the life of me, I can’t understand that call, why they called it down when the ball was floating into Larry’s hands.”

Four plays later, rookie running back Nick Chubb ripped off a 41-yard touchdown run, and the Browns took a 42-34 lead with 4:20 left in regulation.

Later, the officials ruled running back Carlos Hyde had rushed for a first down on third-and-2 from the Cleveland 17 that would have allowed the Browns to run out the clock and win. But the call was reversed after a replay review with 1:38 left in the fourth quarter. The Raiders got the ball back, forced OT and prevailed.

“Don’t put it in the refs’ hands,” Garrett said. “Got to make big plays at the end of the game to take their decision-making out of it.”

Browns matchup: Ravens’ Terrell Suggs remains persistent threat to Browns’ offense

Baltimore Ravens outside linebacker Terrell Suggs could very well be the LeBron James of the NFL.

Currently in his 16th season, the longtime standout linebacker’s skills show few signs of diminishing.

When the Ravens swoop into FirstEnergy Stadium to play the Browns at 1 p.m. Sunday, Suggs, the old guard, will meet the new in Browns rookie tackle Desmond Harrison.

“They are good. They are good. Let’s make no mistake about that,” Browns coach Hue Jackson said of the Ravens defense. “They are statistically good.”

Those statistics are either impressive to the casual observer or just scary to anyone who has to play the Ravens so far this season.

The Ravens defense ranks No. 2 in yards per game and No. 3 in points in the NFL. They have yet to give up a second-half touchdown, and have allowed only nine second-half points. They are tops in the league in opponent quarterback rating (47.9).

Jackson singled out Suggs as a big part of that, and former Browns left tackle Joe Thomas is no longer around to deal with him. For Harrison, Sunday’s game amounts to serious on-the-job training, with Thomas providing advice.

“We are trying to get him a crash course. I try to get in touch with Joe [Thomas] this week and try to get some tips if you can,” left guard Joel Bitonio said. “Suggs is such a good player. He is a Hall of Famer. He has done a lot of stuff from his leader of the defense, leader of their team, and it is going to be a big test. I think [Harrison’s] biggest test of the year.”

Suggs will be coming for rookie quarterback Baker Mayfield, just as he has for every Browns quarterback in his career. Of Suggs’ 128 career sacks, 14 percent (18) have come while playing against the Browns. Harrison will have to stay in the way.

“One thing I like about Desmond, he is not going to blink,” Jackson said. “He is going to go out and compete, and I am sure he is going to learn something as he goes through the game about these guys he is playing against, and we have to do everything we can to help him and put him in the best position.

“It is the way this league is. You play, and you have to play against the best. He has to be up to the challenge.”

But is he up to that challenge? To hear him speak in the locker room this week, casually, haltingly and quick to smile, you’d think there isn’t much to worry about. He’s sought advice from Thomas and Bitonio, who has evolved into a sage veteran offering advice, paying it forward just as Thomas took him under his wing when he first arrived in Cleveland.

“I’m just going to play my game, how I play every weekend, not going to try to do anything different, just stick to the script,” Harrison said.

So far, the script has played out fine for Harrison, according to players and coaches.

“I think he has slowly improved this year and he keeps getting better,” Bitonio said. “It is a big test for him, so have to see some and get a lot of film for him, get a lot of practice for him, but he is ready for the challenge and he is going to try to be his best this weekend.”

Offensive coordinator Todd Haley offered full-throated support of Harrison in his weekly news conference Thursday afternoon, saying Harrison has his full confidence and calling him an exciting player to watch.

“He has gotten better every game,” Haley said. “What he has done from a communications standpoint, showing discipline, eliminating some of the penalties — knock on wood — demeanor on the sideline. I have told all of these young guys, we are four games in — you are not young guys anymore.”

Suggs just might fall into the old problem category, the ones the Browns want to get past. Few NFL players have maintained his level of excellence, which include seven years of double-digit quarterback sacks and seven Pro Bowl appearances. Jackson, who coached Ravens quarterbacks from 2008-09, said he isn’t surprised by the lack of dropoff in performance.

“One, he is a tremendous football player — always has been ever since he came out of Arizona State,” Jackson said. “He takes care of his body more so than people think. He has had some injuries. He has overcome them all. He works extremely hard. Contrary to what people think, this guy was one of the best practice players I have ever been around. He loved the game, and he loves to study the game.”

More important is the effect Suggs has on his teammates.

“I think he kind of ignites them on defense,” Bitonio said.

thats why you dont blitz flacco ... it's pointless

"First down inside the 10. A score here will put us in the Super Bowl. Jeudy is far to the left as Njoku settles into the slot. Tillman is flanked out wide to the right. Judkins and Ford are split in the backfield as Flacco takes the snap ... Here we go."

Baker Mayfield accepts challenge of facing Ravens defense that usually devours rookie QBs

by Scott Petrak

Baker Mayfield has never experienced anything like the Baltimore Ravens defense he’ll face Sunday in his first home start.

Sure, Mayfield dealt with, and handled, adversity in his first two NFL appearances. He came off the bench trailing the Jets by 14 points in his debut in prime time. He made his first start last week in the hostile environment of Oakland’s Black Hole and quickly threw a pick-six when receiver Antonio Callaway slipped and the pass deflected off his hands.

But those ordeals are tame compared with the challenge of the Ravens. Mayfield will peer across the line and spot pass rusher Terrell Suggs spitting fire, linebacker C.J. Mosley inching toward the line and free safety Eric Weddle moving around in an attempt to trick the rookie quarterback.

“Athletic. Talented. You see guys that want to intimidate you,” Mayfield said. “The Ravens defense is known for being physical and trying to outphysical the other team and set the tone for the whole game. On top of that, they can run. They have guys that can do it all.”

Mayfield is too confident to be in awe of or fear the Ravens. In the comeback win over the Jets and the heartbreaking 45-42 overtime loss to the Raiders, he’s 38-for-64 (59.4 percent) for 496 yards with two touchdowns, two interceptions, three sacks and an 81.3 rating.

He’s impressed teammates and opponents, as the 42 points were the most for the Browns since 2007.

“He made helluva throws,” receiver Jarvis Landry said. “Besides that, just the way he commanded the huddle and led us is something that I expected from him and his attitude and demeanor.”

Mayfield’s 295 yards were fifth in the Super Bowl era for a No. 1 pick in his first start, trailing Cam Newton, Vinny Testaverde, Andrew Luck and Peyton Manning.

“I like his swag, his edginess,” said Suggs, who has 18 sacks against the Browns. “As a fellow competitor, you have to respect that. I like his game and his fieriness — if that’s a word.”

Through a 3-1 start, the Ravens defense has lived up to the standards set by its historically great predecessors. It ranks third in points (16.2 per game), second in yards (275.8), fourth against the run (82.5), fourth against the pass (193.2) and second on third down (27.8 percent converted).

It’s been at its best in the second half, allowing no touchdowns, nine points, a 47.9 passer rating and 123 yards a game — all best in the league.

“We have smart players,” coach John Harbaugh said. “They learn from play to play, and they communicate well. They are playing well. That is what it boils down to.”

The Ravens traditionally make life miserable on rookie quarterbacks. In 10 years under Harbaugh, they are 15-5 and lead the league by holding the rookies to a 59.6 passer rating with 27 interceptions, according to ESPN stats.

“Baker Mayfield is pretty advanced,” Harbaugh said. “He’s not, I don’t think, a rookie in the true sense. He seems like he has a really good feel for the game.”

The Ravens got deeper at cornerback this week with the return of Jimmy Smith off a suspension, but Mayfield must be most concerned with Weddle.

The five-time Pro Bowler has an interception in four straight games against the Browns and 29 in his career. He’s a master of disguising coverages.

“He is a pain in the butt because he is extremely smart and is able to camouflage a lot of looks and create issues that really should not be issues,” Browns offensive coordinator Todd Haley said. “I am really anxious to see how it plays out because I think that we have a chance to be pretty good offensively, if we can clean up some of the mental side of it.

“We are trying to have this group develop into a top-10, top-five group. I think we have the potential to do that.”

Ten times in 20 games under Harbaugh the Ravens — No. 1 in the league in opponent passer rating (69.1) and yards per pass attempt (5.31) — have held the Browns to 10 points or fewer. But this Cleveland offense looks and feels different than its inept ancestors. With Mayfield at the controls for a game and a half, the Browns have scored 63 points.

He hasn’t been perfect — two fumbles and an interception in the second half against the Raiders — and said the key to more improvement will be taking care of the ball and paying greater attention to details as a unit.

“We are very, very close to being a great team. That is it,” Mayfield said.

He has energized the team and fan base and inspired comparisons to all-time greats John Elway, Brett Favre and Drew Brees.

“I expect the same thing out of him,” receiver Rashard Higgins said. “I said he can be on the LeBron wall, so, sh–, that’s my quarterback, man.”

Landry said he “absolutely” believes Mayfield will fulfill Favre’s prediction of greatness, and he refused to push Mayfield to the background with second-year Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes receiving the bulk of the national attention.

“I respect Pat, I’ve seen what he’s been doing, I knew him since he was in college and I’m proud of his success,” Landry said. “But we’ve got our Baker Mayfield. We’re not comparing him to anybody and he’s going to do the things that he does well, and I think we get an opportunity to play Kansas City this year, so we’ll see.”

The matchup with the Ravens is bigger than Mayfield. The Browns (1-2-1) have squandered opportunities for a better record and need several victories to validate the perceived improvement.

“If we are going to be the team that we want to be, we have to go in our stadium, play against these teams and find a way to defeat them,” coach Hue Jackson said. “That is what this is all about.”

“It is very, very big. It is big for us to just take that next step, it is big up in the division and in all reality we’re supposed to be 4-0,” free safety Damarious Randall said.

Mayfield’s looking forward to running out of the FirstEnergy Stadium tunnel for the first time as the starter.

“It will be exciting. I am hoping we get a good crowd atmosphere because this game is a division one,” he said. “For us, it counts as two. We need the fans to come alive. When they bring the energy, it helps our defense especially, but it helps out the momentum. You build confidence. Things start to flow after that, so looking for the crowd and hoping they bring it on Sunday.”

I believe we are wearing the color rush uniforms again.

If so, we're winning. wink

When the Cleveland Browns take the field to face the Baltimore Ravens on Sunday, they'll do so in the only set of uniforms they're currently undefeated in.

They said they were wearing the color rush uniforms for the Ravens home game, and one other. I haven't seen anything that changed it.

Defense:

Do not let Smokey Brown get behind you! He's there only deep threat.
The secondary is good enough to squat on the other receivers.

My goals would be 2 fold:

-Joe is a big ball vertical downfield thrower...test his patience make him nickel and dime his way downfield, nothing cheap nothing deep

-Like any QB Joes doesn't like being hit/pressured the front 7 can really make a difference this game

Offense:

Its going be tough finding clear "win" match-ups in the passing game when in man-to-man. That said I still trust Landry on routes where he's strength and desire will make the difference this is going be a toughness over the middle earn your money type game for Landry

The 2 best match-ups might be Njoku and Duke vs their LBs and Safeties
Duke matched up on LB on swing routes and texas/china routes
I think Njoku can get vertical against either of the Ravens safetys

If the Ravens slip up and leave Calloway man to man without Safety help I would still let him try to run past them.....

RUN the damn ball!!! Make this game a manhood issue.
Try to get Chubb and Hyde in the backfield together....give Chubb some more carries 20ish for Hyde 10ish + for Chubb

The easiest way to win this game is for the defense to keep the game close (or score on their own) to allow the offense to stick with the run and take shots off play-action...this is not the defense you want a rookie winging the ball 35+ times against
