Derrick Willies - WR - Browns
Browns placed WR Derrick Willies (shoulder) on injured reserve.
The team signed WR Breshad Perriman Saturday morning and were forced to make a corresponding move. With Willies out the picture and Rishard Higgins additionally out for Sunday, Cleveland will enter their matchup against the Chargers with Jarvis Landry, Rod Streater, Antonio Callaway, and Perriman as the primary receivers.

I feel sorry for Jordon Leslie. Don't know why he's not getting a shot.

I think Burgess is headed to the IR. Per the NFL rules, whatever they may be (less than 4 yrs in the league), I think he has to be released first.

We didn't have to waive Willies to put him on IR. You might be thinking of players being placed on IR during the off-season.

You may be correct. But I've heard two varying reports to Burgess... one he's being waived, the other he's being placed on IR. So I naturally assumed the two were connected in some type of NFL rule...

Looks like he was waived with an injury designation. Once he clears waivers he can be added to the IR or reach settlement and released.

Letting Burgess go would be a super DUMB move, especially with how Collins is playing.

I like Scott a lot. He played well this preseason. He won't fix our WRs, but he may be better than other guys we could have looked at
"First down inside the 10. A score here will put us in the Super Bowl. Cooper is far to the left as Njoku settles into the slot. Moore is flanked out wide to the right. Chubb and Ford are split in the backfield as Watson takes the snap ... Here we go."

Random thought..
I wouldn't mind seeing Dorsey giving the jets a call for Pryor.
Pryor and Landry would be nice.

Letting Burgess go would be a super DUMB move, especially with how Collins is playing. At the very least he's on IR. They probably wanted to put him on IR for the roster spot, and he said he wouldn't go for an injury that was only a couple of weeks to heal. In that case, they worked out a settlement, probably in the range of a game check or 2, and released him with the injury settlement.

Using the Waived/Injured rule the Browns take a chance of losing Burgess but it also allows them to bring him back without using the IR designated to return tag. The Waived/Injured rule works like this: The Browns and Burgess agree to an injury settlement of X amount of dollars and to how long it should take for his injury to heal (say 4 weeks), after those 4 weeks Burgess becomes a Free Agent and can sign with any team other then the Browns, after an additional 3 weeks if he has not signed with another team he is free to re-sign with the Browns. So if he came back to the Browns he would be gone 7 weeks in this scenario but he wouldn't cost the Browns the use of their Injured designated to return tag.

I know we worked out Bowman but if that doesn’t pan out Derrick Johnson was released by the raiders. Would he be worth a look for injury depth/ veteran presence?

I don't think we're going to bring in a 36 year old guy.
The only older player I remember us bringing in was Streeter. Stanton and Fells are the only 2 guys on the roster who are 30 or older.
I think we want guys who might be able to grow with the team, or at least play with the team for a couple more years.

You are probably right, but we need help at LBer this year. I think that both Dorsey and Hue understand the importance of winning some games this year.
I also think losing Schobert is a significant loss. DJ could perhaps be a short-term fix.

***WARNING***
Not for the overly sensitive types:
How do we not have a backup C on the roster who has actually taken a snap at C in an NFL game?
Reiter is now a backup C/G on a playoff team (Chiefs). BTW, Drango is a backup OL for the playoff-bound Chargers. But we kept Watford who can play either Guard or...Guard. Along with Robinson...who can play T...supposedly.
I wasn't a fan of the backup OL plan from the start. Earl Watford & Glen Robinson with a rookie T who isn't an NFL tackle and needs to learn a new position? Really?
I wonder if there is a new unwritten rule about raiding practice squads. Was there not a better WR option off of a PS than Streeter? Or a WR with better hands than Perriman? There MUST be...right?
Is Hubbard really any better than was S Coleman? He's sure a lot more expensive. Is Chris Smith our best veteran free agent pickup after Mitchell? Maybe Gaines is #2? (I'm exaggerating a bit because Landry is probably #2 after Mitchell...but for the money?)
I think the draft and the TT + Randall trades were solid...the Harrison find was above-solid (even if he struggles at times) and the Willies find looked good for a quarter-ish.
I remain befuddled about the OL decisions.
Disclaimer for the overly sensitive: I have never been an NFL GM or Scout and I do not think I would be a better GM than Dorsey.

The Cleveland Browns have signed TE Pharaoh Brown to the active roster from the practice squad. In addition, the team signed RB Devante Mays to the practice squad. The Browns also waived LB James Burgess Jr. from injured reserve. Brown is 6-6, 258 pounds and officially in his first NFL season out of Oregon. Originally signed by Oakland as an undrafted free agent in 2017, Brown appeared in two games with the Raiders in 2017. He spent the past four weeks on the Browns’ practice squad. Brown is a native of Lyndhurst, Ohio, and attended Brush High School. He will wear No. 86. Mays is 5-11, 237 pounds and in his second NFL season out of Utah State. Originally selected by Green Bay in the seventh round of the 2017 draft, Mays appeared in eight games as a rookie. He is a native of Livingston, Texas. https://www.clevelandbrowns.com/news/bro...medium=referral

Do we need another TE on the active roster? Seems we have Njoku, DeValve, Charles and Fells, correct? Or did I miss something?

Moving Brown to the 53 would allow what I believe is the best, most cost efficient move right now by placing David Njoku at wide receiver. I’ve said this for a few weeks as his blocking isn’t improving at the same rate as catching. https://twitter.com/chadp71/status/1054815784344674304

The Cleveland Browns have signed LB Ray-Ray Armstrong. To make room on the roster, the team waived LB Xavier Woodson-Luster. Armstrong is 6-3, 220 pounds and in his sixth NFL season out of the University of Miami. Originally signed by the St. Louis Rams as an undrafted free agent in 2013, Armstrong has started 12 of his 69 career games with the Rams, Oakland Raiders, San Francisco 49ers and the New York Giants. He has registered 120 career tackles, five pass breakups, three forced fumbles, three fumble recoveries, three interceptions, two sacks and 29 special teams tackles. This season, he started one of six games for the Giants and totaled 18 tackles on defense and two on special teams, before being waived on Oct. 23. Armstrong is a native of Sanford, Fla. He will wear No 52. Woodson-Luster was elevated to the Browns’ active roster from the practice squad on Oct. 16 and appeared in last week’s game at Tampa Bay, contributing on special teams. https://www.clevelandbrowns.com/news/bro...medium=referral

I remember him. He might be able to help on special teams. You are right, that is probably his calling. He never reached his potential at the U, as if I remember he was more of a rover safety than a linebacker. I only saw him play at Oakland, and recall teams running on his side often as he would get washed out often...But hes worth a shot on special teams considering what we have there.

I would love for us to make a move before the trade deadline. Giants and Raiders throwing in the towel... might be able to get a sneaky good deal on a guy.
Another guy I might want to ask about is Devante Parker. There are some trade rumors about him... but right now the Dolphins are thin at WR, so maybe not.
I don't mind grabbing Perriman at all. He's a warm body at a position where we're really thin. He's just taking up a roster spot, but the dude has skills, maybe he just needed a new city. Low risk high reward.
There is no level of sucking we haven't seen; in fact, I'm pretty sure we hold the patents on a few levels of sucking NOBODY had seen until the past few years.

IIRC Perriman had a penalty and a catch last week ... maybe
