WASHINGTON — Senator Elizabeth Warren has released a DNA test that provides “strong evidence’’ she had a Native American in her family tree dating back 6 to 10 generations, an unprecedented move by one of the top possible contenders for the 2020 Democratic nomination for president.

DNA evidence is a joke, but I do wonder if this causes Trump to create a new nickname for her.

long article but essentially ancestry and 23 obviously have to get their data, by cross referencing it with their users, as they obviously can't get other people's DNA. As American companies their audiences are very American centric and they don't really have a lot global data to cross reference DNA sequences to. So when people who have long ancestral roots to countries, like Syria, Japan, France, almost every country, and still live there, they get back funky results that could not be right.

DNA is no joke, but it's certainly not known enough to make extremely objective opinions about these things as the data itself is subjective to Americans.

To be able to claim Cherokee in the eyes of the Cherokee nation, you do not need a blood count, you need to be able to prove and provide documents of your relation to a descendant of the tribe listed on the Dawes Final Rolls. No recognized Tribe enrolls based solely on DNA evidence. As CHS pointed out, many researchers tell how DNA results are skewed and should be depended on for actual results. And if I am not mistaken, you have to be considered 1/32 or more to be able to claim any type of benefits from the Fed.

I think trump was dumb for saying he would give 1million to a charity - and think he should. Because he said ANY blood, but that doesn't change the fact that Warren lied about and used benefits she should not have. Those are two different issues here that most are ignoring simply because....Trump.

I have known a lot of white women, and I cannot recall anyone of them ever claiming any "Indian" heritage.

That she is Cherokee. The Cherokee nation does not recognize her, nor her family - thus she is not Cherokee.

As well as the false claim of being a minority of Native American decent, as she does not fit the Federal Guidelines to claim such for benefits.

I would guess she also has some african ancestry in her blood. And European: French, German, etc.

I guess it matters because it was turned into a political tool/weapon during the last campaign. Now, it's a thing. The infantile name-calling by then-candidate Stump made it a political football. Warren was called out in public, mocked, and challenged to provide proof. This is her response.

She was also promised that should proof be provided, her challenger would donate 1M to the charity of her choice.

So... that's kind of a public issue now, because D00D wouldn't stop hammering the whole 'Pocahontas' thing for over a year while on the campaign trail.


So it may not be an issue for you (or me either, in the grand scheme of things), but it really is for others. Because public figures making public statements should be held to account, no matter how grand or small the subject.
