So, this past weekend, midway through the work day, my gf calls me to tell me that WE are going to be going to a haunted house that evening with some of her friends. Now, I'm over 30, and I'm certainly feeling that, well, I'm to old for this nonsense.

But, we've been together a long time, been through a lot, yadda, yadda, y'know...

So I indulge her. I get home, shower, and nap for a quick bit, and pretty soon, I gotta get up and dressed bc we are leaving around 830. Her friends show up, we split up in cars, we go to the regional, popular, been-around-since-forever scare factory.

We pay $60 for the two of us, we did not pay the extra $10 per for the fastpass (cuz even waiting in lines in now divided by socio-economic status, that's for another time.)

We wait nearly an hour going through what seemed like an endless back-and-forth of line-waiting, only to get to the very front and wait another fifteen minutes as they stuffed as many fastpassers as they could into the "haunt."

Finally, its our term. Aside from some moderately cool lighting effects and a couple interesting animatronic industry gizmo's, it was about what I remember. A lot of misdirection, a lot of loud noises, and some juvenile banter from real kids and grown up kids both wearing a hodge-podge of masks and make-up. At the point that the crazed chef character kiddo offered me a blue-plate-special of pig balls and period blood, I was soooooo ready to get back home to catch a reasonable amount of sleep before work the next morning.....

but our tickets were for two attractions.....so back into line, the clock is passing midnight, I'm actually thinking to myself--another $20 and this could've been over awhile ago...

I'm an adult, this was mildly amusing, but hardly scary.....

As I was driving home, I got to thinking.....

Are there haunted attractions out there that are geared more towards adults, non-kid, non-family-friendly.

There have to be, right...….this is the age of the internet, this is the age of, well, we'll sell you anything you want if we turn a profit...

So I googled.....

It took a few searches before I got the right wording....non-kid haunt...nothing......non-family-friendly haunt...…..nothing...…..adult haunted houses......nothing...

But then, extreme haunted attraction...….BINGO.

The first place I see, McKamey Manor....survival-horror in real life.....

I go to the site, just doing my due diligence, indulging my curiosity.

I find this place amazing, disgusting, awesome, terrifying....

It just goes back to that whole idea, whatever people will pay for, we'll do it.....

This place offers solo trips or two-at-a-time.....that's it.

There are requirements:

40 page waiver to go over and sign....yep
physical and psychological screening....yep
Sports Physical....yep
Drug and Alcohol testing.....yep

You complete the requirements, you make your reservations, you wait for your date to arrive, and you donate a bag of dogfood to a specific charity and you are ready to begin.

This "experience" is up to 8hours long.....though, purportedly no one has ever lasted the full eight hours.

Its fully interactive....as in...the actors can:

touch you, grab you, hold you, tie you up, strap you down, put you in a cage, dunk you underwater, put things in your mouth, restrain you, confine you, even pull your teeth out of your skull.....and it all....gets.....filmed.

how can this be?!?!

Well....its all in the waiver, its all been agreed to.....the mad, psycho, evil demon doctor.....is actually a dentist, and that tooth, it was agreed that it had to go...…

But instead of a nice clean shaven neighborhood dentist.....you opted for a blood soaked villain in a leather apron.....and.....free dental work....BONUS....

The details of this place are just unbelievable....and if people want to subject themselves to this....more power to them.....

I've been borderline obsessed/in awe of this whole concept....

It really is amazing what people want...….and how far ppl will go to give it to them...

The "experience" isn't without it controversies. People who disapprove of the concept, stories that paint it negatively....

I just found it fascinating.....No way in hell I would do it...…

Just wanted to share it with the board....as I had no idea that places such as this exist....

I wish to wash my Irish wristwatch......

$30 for a visit to a haunted house?

Man, it could be the best haunted house ever, and I don't think it would be worth it. crazy

My buddy was just telling me about this the other day. I thought he was lying til he showed me an article. He looks pretty serious when he say he wants to do it, but he has never been quite "right".

Looks like a serious accident waiting to happen.

‘An evening of terror. A lifetime of PTSD.’

No thanks.

As to the dentist removing teeth... this goes against the Hippocratic Oath which holds medical professionals to ‘do no harm’. I have to believe that removing a perfectly good tooth is pretty much the definition of ‘doing harm’. I’d think that any dentist that agreed to this could be subject to scrutiny by dentistry’s governing board. And if anything were to go wrong... career suicide. I don’t care what form was signed prior to entering such an ‘attraction’.

I watched something about McKamey Manor on Netflix - think it was called Haunters: Art of the Scare or something like that.

This one just caught heat because the "actors" staged a mock rape scene

there's no WAY i'd subject myself to something like this (I'm a wimp when it comes to being afraid)

"First down inside the 10. A score here will put us in the Super Bowl. Cooper is far to the left as Njoku settles into the slot. Moore is flanked out wide to the right. Chubb and Ford are split in the backfield as Watson takes the snap ... Here we go."
