- No dropped passes - Improved (much) run defense - No horrendous officiating moments - Baker be more decisive and comfortable - Duke Johnson and Seth DeValve getting more involved - More defensive looks with 2 LBs - Peppers to look good again on STs
"First down inside the 10. A score here will put us in the Super Bowl. Jeudy is far to the left as Njoku settles into the slot. Tillman is flanked out wide to the right. Judkins and Ford are split in the backfield as Flacco takes the snap ... Here we go."

- quicker decisions by Baker - more targets to Landry and Duke - less targets to Callaway and Njoku - more snaps for Devalve - more carries from Chubb - an oline that doesn't consistently let the pocket collapse - better run defense

I won't be seeing it, because I'll be at the Atlanta United game.
But, please, let's win.
Make some adjustments to combat what the Chargers did.
And win baby.

- Duke and Chubb getting more touches - Garrett get to the QB - Landry step up - Special Teams go a game w/o a penalty - Collins not play patty cake with the QB again - Genard Avery getting after the QB - A win. TB has a bad defense is a beatable team.

I have a question. How many teams regularly go an entire game w/out a special team's penalty?
I see a lot of bashing of the special teams, but our previous regime decimated the unit and kept stiffs in their place. I have also seen our special teams get the better of the both the Chargers and Rats in the past two games.
Other than nitpicking, I don't quite get the statement about us not getting a special team's penalty.

1. Decisive throws from baker 2. A run D that isn't embarrassing. 3. If teams are going to copy the Chargers plan to limit mayfield, we need to adjust. 4. Our kicker to make kicks. 5. Get a lead. 6. Our receivers catching the ball. I mean, catch the frikking ball!

* Baker healthy
* Improved tackling on Defense - This week gave me terror flashbacks of previous years
* Garrett sack
* A couple forced turnovers
* and of course, WIN!

* Avoiding more injuries * More catches * More scoring * Better Baker Mayfield * Pride on offensive line *Tackling * Chubb inside, Duke outside and receiving from slot or wideout combo; put him with Landry in a twin * A win *No refs needing discussed

It's also imperative to have a great day from the secondary ... look at their playmakers compared to ours:
Evans Jackson Howard Godwin Brate

*Get Duke the daggone ball. He is our most potent weapon and it's past time we feature him as such. I've mentioned a few times this season about Haley trying to figure out his est payer combos and who's the player we go to when we need a key play... Duke IS that player. We have enough talent overall that it shouldn't be too difficult getting the favorable match ups we want with him.

A coaching staff that has devised ways to run an effective offense given the many injuries at WR. Also a game plan to counter what the Chargers were able to do.

I'd like to see the team show up this week. How 'bout we start there. Cal, I kinda disagree w/the majority that the team came out flat last week. I think we came out w/energy. I think we got some stops and the special teams were excellent early in the game. I think our O didn't get it done most due to dropped passes and poor qb play. The Chargers are an excellent team and started pouring it on. That is when the team fell flat. Again, I don't think we came out flat. I think we got punched in the freaking mouth.

A much better effort from our coaches in preparing this team for a game, because last week was simply unacceptable at any point in the growth of a team. That was horrible. My cousin texted me after the game with the simple text "chess vs checkers"
You can't have that at this level. I understand clunkers happen to the very best teams, but what we saw on Sunday was embarrassing, especially from the defensive side of the ball.
I want to see Baker bounce back. Some of the doubters came out after the game on Sunday (of course) and people were trying to make arguments using numbers (which lol)
Games like Baker had on Sunday happen to rookie quarterbacks. Still had some really nice throws. Needs to be quicker in his decision making. Throw it away, check down, chuck it at your running back's feet. You keep playing like that and you'll end up just like Tyrod Taylor did.
As much as I think Carlos Hyde is a tough runner who takes care of the ball and fights for every yard, maybe it's time to give Nick Chubb a little more of a look?
Hue Jackson came to Cleveland with this great resume of being good with offense and good with quarterbacks, etc. Maybe it's time he proved that by putting together a game plan for a team that is damn near depleted at WR. Figure it out.

My biggest concern for this game is WRs catching the damn ball and staying in the game. We need Duke playing more WR type role until we get Higgins back or bring in a real WR. I have faith in Baker moving the team if somebody is there to catch the ball. If he holds it too long looking for a WRs we lose. We move the ball in the air, we score, we win.
Baker has a fast release, last week nobody showed up to catch.

I think we got some stops and the special teams were excellent early in the game. I think our O didn't get it done most due to dropped passes and poor qb play. I was there, and I agree. There was energy at the beginning of the game. When I sensed the change - SD gained 9 yards on a first down. So 2nd and 1. And we forced a punt. Big stance by the D. The punt bounces off of Peppers chest but he recovers it. Then Mayfield, going to his left, throws a pass off of his back foot. It is low and behind the receiver (not surprising as he threw off of his back foot while moving to his left) and it was an easy pick. Returned deep in our territory. IMO, that's when the energy started to go. I am not here ragging on Baker, but that one was completely on him. No miscommunication, no deflection. Just a piss poor decision. He's a rookie trying to get something done. It will happen.

Yeah, I think we had energy at the beginning. I don't think came out "flat." I just think the Chargers beat the living crap out of us and we got demoralized.
It will be interesting to see what our effort level will be this week.

Yeah, effort level should be very high (if we're in the right direction as a franchise)
I'm never one to say "We gotta win this game" because that's such an absolute way to look at it ... but I will say "We gotta play hard and play well this game"

I think last week after a couple defensive stops and a couple missed opportunities on offense it really took any little momentum we had out. This is a bounce back game against a marginal team. If we play like we have sans last week we should win. I really want to see us stop the run.. if we can't do that, we won't win anything this year

I stated after the game I thought we came out on all cylinders and we actually dominated the game early on. At least until midway through the 2nd quarter. Then the effort seemed to be lacking.
I also don't think Mayfield had as bad a game as many think he did. He was penalized by the many many drops. I read after the game that he was throwing the ball high, he did not. Maybe one or two, but for the most part he was putting the ball where only his receivers can get it. I think the ankle twist hindered Mayfield's mobility some and he didn't run as much as he could have...and I think Los Angeles did a good job exploiting this. Hopefully he's near 100% or at least has some mobility.
What I'd like to see more than anything is that we catch the ball. Ratley had 3 touchdown drops. Callaway had 1 plus a couple other passes. Njoku and Landry both had drops. These guys need to catch the ball.
Don't get me wrong, Baker struggled with reads and holding the ball way too long, but when he threw it, it was on the money, we just need to catch it.
Would also love to see more Duke. More Chubb. Hyde isn't the back we are trying to make him out to be.
We also need to create more turnovers. If we can do that, this should be an easy W for us. Let's go play and see what can happen.

The Chargers are an excellent team and started pouring it on. That is when the team fell flat. Again, I don't think we came out flat. I think we got punched in the freaking mouth. I saw it differently. First play, illegal formation ON THE KICK OFF. Who does that? Then, our first drive, nice pass to Njoku. False start on Chargers (not sure why they stopped the play). Then the line gets pushed into Bakers lap. Hyde gets stuffed. Line gets beat again, Baker sacked. Punt. Chargers get an incredible return because we were slow and whiffed on the runner. They march right down and score like a knife through butter. You are right of course in that Peppers had some nice returns, and the D had some stops. But they were flat from the jump. It was like it took a scoring drive for the D to realize they were in a game, they tried for a while, the O crapped the bed on every drive, the D realized they were outmatched and it went downhill from there. STs, looked better than it has all year, and they did play with energy for the most part. Overall though, piss poor performance. I hope they show up this week. JMHO.

I want to see the WR position not be a weakness that drags us down and out of the game. Who they put there to accomplish that is moot to me.

I'd like to see Nick Chubb worked into the mix. He's on the front page of BSPN NFL right now as the poster child for most under-utilized NFL players. I tend to agree. Would post the whole article but I'd rather run my dog over in the driveway than pay for BSPN+ Running back
Nick Chubb, Cleveland Browns
Overall grade: 91.3 | Offensive snaps: 33
The Browns' backfield is crowded, and while it's unlikely that Chubb will take much away from Duke Johnson in the passing game, there's a strong case to be made that he should be eating into Carlos Hyde's carries. Hyde is averaging just 3.4 yards per carry, with 2.3 of those yards coming after contact. As Chubb's three-carry, 105-yard performance against the Raiders suggests, he's more than capable of finding big plays. So far this season, four of his 16 carries have gone for 15-plus yards, and with that performance in a small sample, it's time for him to see more work.http://www.espn.com/nfl/insider/story/_/...y-position-2018

I'd like to see Baker actually see and throw to his open receivers instead of forcing the ball into coverages and/or holding it forever and taking dumb sacks.
He is a rookie who played in an offense that didn't ask him to do those things in college, so I probably won't see it.......but, that doesn't mean I wouldn't like to see it.
How about this. Can you show me a little improvement in that area, Baker?

I'd like to see the Browns try moving the pocket left or right to offset pressure up the middle and open up some throwing lanes for Mayfield. I'd also like to see Mayfield get the ball out quickly like he did against the Jets and Raiders.

Yea, Adam Archuleta mentioned that during the telecast against LA. Thought it would something they could try, to mitigate what the Chargers were doing successfully with their flooded lanes and jamming the middle of the pocket.

Hailey's presser this week is a good listen. He talks about the process and Baker learning to go to his check downs but also needing to get rid of the ball, that the windows will be tight, and knowing the difference between tight windows and windows that are too tight.
I think Baker got a little guy shy after throwing those picks, especially after his relative success not throwing them in camp. He needs to get back to confidently throwing the ball into those tight windows, something he is very good at.
