This is good news. Chubb and Johnson need the ball more and Hyde’s snaps were about to dwindle. Love the move.

At 3.4 yards per carry I'd say we can afford to.
Intoducing for The Cleveland Browns, Quarterback Deshawn "The Predator" Watson. He will also be the one to choose your next head coach.

Too many chefs in the kitchen. This is a good move if we don't push Duke to WR.

Bummed to see him go. I’ve been a fan of his since his OSU days. Was glad to pick him up. I thought he’s run hard for us this year. That said we have youth to get on the field. Despite what some may think we’re not a playoff team. So if this trade nets us a decent draft pick I’m all for it. Now we’ll see what we have in Chubb. He’ll get the reps with Baker he needs going into next season. We’ll get a better picture of what he truly offers before next year’s draft. Playing the long game, I’m okay with this move.

My thoughts:
I get wanting to give Chubb more carries.
But,
We are a team right now devoured by injuries. We are a team that right now, needs every asset on offense we can get. we are a team with a Rookie QB who needs a RB that can block when needed. We are a team that last week just had about every player EXCEPT Duke and Hyde give up.
A 5th round pick for a back whos on pace for 10+ TD and over 1000 yards? It just doesn't make sense to me. There is no argument for this trade.

Agreed. It certainly doesn't make sense to me. Especially for a 5th round pick.
But, it doesn't need to make sense to me.
When I first read it, my initial thought was "Now Chubb or Duke will get hurt......."

Chubb's pass blocking needs to improve really quick now.
I like Hyde and would have been happier if it was a 4th rounder, but I understand why they made the move.
Chubb and Duke both needed more touches.

When I first read it, my initial thought was "Now Chubb or Duke will get hurt......." There just is no logical reason. Even if you start Chubb over Hyde, a 5th rd pick is ot worth more than hyde as your backup. Depth is a premium and we have little of it. Literally the only spot on the roster we had depth at, and we traded it away for junk. Looks like ol sparky from Tenn is trying to save cash and cut payroll. Well have so much depth next year with all these 5th and 7th round picks we have!

so it appears so far that Dorsey valuing skill positions isn't his strong suit... I agree getting chubb more carries, but he's not proven he can be the bell cow yet.

Chubb and Duke both needed more touches. You know you can give them more touches simply by reducing Hydes right? You don't have to trade him for that. . . Having more than 1 good player at a position is not a bad thing.

If that is all it takes for you to lose faith you may be in for some trying times.
Hyde was a free agent it's not like he was a star. He was unsigned by his team.
If you were at practice every day and saw him versus Chubb then I could see your point.
If he was expendable to Dorsey and his staff then that is how he was perceived.
Apparently they felt it was time to give the other backs more touches.
I don't see this move as something dramatic.

1. I am against giving up a solid rb for peanuts. 2. I am against giving up the only depth at position we have 3. idc what hyde was for his other team, he was producing solidly for us, and producing well over what a 5th round pick is worth. 4. NFL is a business, and if I gave sold you Impala for the cost of a Smart Car, I wouldn't survive long. 5. Look at our WR positon group right now and tell me having depth is a bad thing.

This is a waving the white flag trade. At least he's going to a good, contending team. One that knows the value of a solid running game. The only position group that had any semblance of depth,no longer does. I will have plenty of leaves to deal with on Sunday afternoons for the next month or so.
Indecision may,or maynot,be my problem

Yeah, but this seems like an odd trade and I can't pinpoint why. It just feels off. It's not like Hyde was playing poorly or anything. It's not like Chubb was increasingly getting more and more touches as the season moved on. Chubb barely got any play the last couple of weeks after a two touchdown game. He has 16 attempts all season and averages just over 2 carries a game.
I don't know. ...I'm not hating it or anything. It just seems peculiar. And this is coming from someone who really likes Chubb.

All we know is those 5 tds came on his legs, not the other guys for a reason. and idk for sure either, my opinion is duke doesn't get half those tds he did. His ability to push a pile and run hard through tackles is what got those TDs. And you reply still doesn't answer why we couldn't just have lowered his touches and kept him. Hyde touching the ball 10 x a game is better than a 5th round pick imo.

Duke Johnson was getting more and more snaps, not Chubb. https://www.pro-football-reference.com/players/H/HydeCa00/fantasy/2018/This is how Hyde's season went in terms of snaps: 47 36 45 49 28 32 And Johnson: 41 23 29 29 41 35 I expect Johnson will get more work and Chubb will fill in the gaps. Also, Hyde was not apart of the long term future of the team. He was basically a fill in from the moment he signed. I was expecting him to be cut in the off-season. Trading him we save money. If we were to cut him in the off-season we would have saved $3,583,332, by trading him we save $4,750,000.

What's not being discussed is the status of Leonard Fournette. Are they shutting him down for the season or what?
T.J. Yeldon might be a little pissed as well.
