14-6 .. cant convert in the red zone
"First down inside the 10. A score here will put us in the Super Bowl. Jeudy is far to the left as Njoku settles into the slot. Tillman is flanked out wide to the right. Judkins and Ford are split in the backfield as Flacco takes the snap ... Here we go."

Earl Bruce might have run it off of Center/Guard 40 our of 45 plays, But against Purdue that's what you need.
And he wouldn't have been trailing by 15 well into the 3rd.
When the Buckeyes need to play Big Ten old fashioned smash mouth, their gimmicky offense is coming up short.
Now they will start to be running out of time.

Plenty of time, we have Haskins. They've got 2 players in a game like this. Dobbins, and Webber, they should have featured them all night, and only hit the others, occasionally

How many national championships did Earl Bruce win? He played every team in the big 10 those days, every year, all 9 opponents, and that's what I'm talking about. In this kind of a game, Bruce's style of football would serve you better. And back then, they did it, more than 3-4 times a year, and they knew how to. I once remember they won a bowl game by over 20, where they ran Carlos Snow about 30 times in a freaking row, about literally.

That style of football is not going to win anymore, or at least at a national championship level. But whatever, you will believe what you want to believe.

I'm saying it's best for a game like this. Not maybe the whole season, they can't coach two types of offense?
They always said, when you throw the ball 3 things can happen and 2 of them are bad.

1. We don't know how to run the ball.
2. Haskins can't complete passes under pressure or our WR's can't get any separation, unable to tell which.
3. Bad offensive line.
4. Defense is pathetic and soft and I feel they couldn't stop a high school team right now. Bad tackling or schemes, can't tell which. Sell out on blitzes I don't know.

You're micro analyzing.
We just didn't come to play tonight, got our asses kicked and didn't take these guys seriously. No way in hell this score should be the way it is. But this is what happens when you take a team lightly, especially on the road.

No definitely not. The signs have been there in the past games at least in my opinion. But what you say is also part of it. We think because we're OSU that we can just step on the field and don't have to try.

They gave up a 97 yd play from scrimmage, longest in team history in week 1 or 2, and then another same length play a week or so later, They haven't passed the eyeball test for a while,
moving on to next week!

This game reinforced a few thoughts I have on college football.
1) There are not 6 worthy teams for the championship, most years we don't even see 4 good teams.
2) There are very few instances when a true Freshman could be an NFL contributor right away. Rondale Moore is one of those crazy athletes.

A week off and come back like last year and win the Big Ten because that bad loss has probably eliminated us from the playoffs like last year ...

Yeah, I can't see the playoffs as a possibility ... we don't deserve it after that showing (let's not forget that we hadn't looked good before this week either ... and Michigan will be an extremely tough game to win)

This team is not a CFP team, weak schedule and holes galore. I think Urban will bail after the season and Day will take over. Iowa last year now this ugh.

Lousy performance. Myer has issues. Holds his head most of the game. Haskins looked like a deer in the headlights on the sideline shots and was perfectly horrible most of the game. Martel needs a shot. Urban needs to get out before his head explodes.

That was beyond ugly.
--Our LBers are horrid.
--Our DBs are pretty bad at this point in time.
--Our OL is terribly disappointing.
--We did not play w/focus and/or energy.

That may have been the most unsurprising upset in the history of upsets. People were calling for that one all week.
They had it coming too. Looked out of sorts since the PSU game.
Could not be happier for Tyler Trent. What a horrible story, but awesome that he got to see his team win a huge game.
Ohio State's OL is about as bad as its looked in some time. Just not very good. Pretty inexcusable for a top tier program.
I don't understand the play calling either. Pretty gutless if you ask me. They had their chances to take control of the game, and instead tried to get away with throwing behind the LOS. At some point you have to prove to the opponent that you can get the ball downfield. Haskins missed a few big throws yesterday.
Defense was horrible, I think we all saw that.
A few weeks ago I saw some random buckeye fan respond to someone in the media's tweet, and it was unbelievably true. He said Urban refuses to fix issues until the team loses a game. I bet we see some adjustments from here on out, and probably a little better play, but I think there are some issues that will still linger, and it's personnel related.
I hate to say it, but I think Michigan could get OSU this year. I'm not completely sold on them this year, because they haven't really beaten anyone, but I could really see a situation with both teams rolling into Columbus with one loss each.
I just lost a lot of confidence in this team, along with their coaches.

A bad loss for the Bucs no doubt, but it isn't over.
Win out, win the Big 10 and see how the others finish.
In the end i don't think it really matters, Alabama is the only college team that can beat Alabama. Bama might be the best college team ever.
I honestly think that Bama could beat some NFL teams. They are good.
Now go watch them lose next week....lol

These things always seem to find a way to blow up.. but right now the final 4 is Alabama, Clemson, Notre Dame, and whoever else comes out of the SEC looking the best.. With 3 teams all hoping they draw Notre Dame in the semis. I'm just happy right now that the one thing keeping Texas out of the playoff picture is that Maryland beat them in week 1.

I am willing to consider Martel. Our secondary is atrocious. What Purdue did to us all game long cannot be solved by Boss IMO. Coaches better circle the wagons. This loss as we played it could easily happen again IMO.

This loss as we played it could easily happen again IMO. I would consider Martel in the red zone. Adding the threat of a running QB would really open things up I think. Meyer did it in Florida with Leak and Tebow, why not here? As bad as Barett was at passing, the constant threat of him running kept defences on their toes IMO. Haskins cannot run at all, he is zero threat to do so. He has a great arm, but when the field gets shorter it's more difficult. Adding the threat of a run would be helpful.

Interesting thought. I don't know how I feel about it. Would he want to come back? Would tOSU want him back? How would most fans feel about it I talked to him briefly last fall. He said Youngstown state is "home". He said " I still don't see coaching in my future". He said "still" as if he's grown weary of everyone asking him. He also said he feels like he can have more of an impact on our youth as president at YSU.
