Muhammad Ali.

He is the man Kaepernick is emulating.

Racists never stoped calling him Cassius Clay.

His close relationship with Howard Cosell is due to Cosell calling him "Ali" decades before another media figure did.

I've called him both, he had a career before the war issue and fought as Clay then. So even though I see what you are saying, it's not a perfect measure.

I've always called him Ali since I was too young to know him as Clay. Either way I would still call him Ali since that is the name he went by. I've met him a few times and he was always a super nice guy.

I could see using his original name if I was doing a research paper on him or something but even then it would change when the period in time I was talking about changed.

Its a shame that boxing has taken a backseat to MMA.....It always amazed me how guys could bob and weave in and out of punches, and then let loose with terrifying hand speed....

Watching Tyson vs. Spinks the other day and just thinking what could have been if the Tyson-D'Amato team had lasted....He was just to fast in his younger days....but he got lazy, slowed down, and didn't have the head movement later on and it doomed him...

Roy Jones Jr. was another one who got lost in the fame...watching his early fights, its like he was a man among boys....

Nowadays boxing is dead....there are great fighters....but no one cares, the crowd moved on to mma...

I wish to wash my Irish wristwatch......

Ali was not disrespectful. Kaepernick is disrespectful.

The hardest part of fighting is not closing your eyes when a punch is headed at your face. Takes forever to train that out of a fighter and some never learn.

You know, you never hear anything about Larry Holmes. He was great too, but completely overshadowed by Ali's stardom for a decade after Ali left the ring.

Joe Frazier is so ugly that when he cries,
the tears turn around and go down the back of his head.

It wasn't decades. None the less, I understand your point. It did take several years before most people called him Ali.

If everybody had like minds, we would never learn.
