Riley or Campbel for me, at least at this stage
I have two hopes:
1. Young, offensive minded coach 2. PROVEN type vet with discipline and hire a GOOD OC
"First down inside the 10. A score here will put us in the Super Bowl. Cooper is far to the left as Njoku settles into the slot. Moore is flanked out wide to the right. Chubb and Ford are split in the backfield as Watson takes the snap ... Here we go."

Give me and offensive minded guy, and a young guy.
Forget all these old heads who need to probably retire. The Browns should trade the 5th round pick they got from the Jaguars for Carlos Hyde to the Rams for Head Coach Sean McVay. Sean McVay new Browns head coach after season end. Only if he agrees to keep 90% of the Browns roster and Gregg Williams on to run the defense. hashtag, my bull is about as relevant as anyone elses bull, it's all irrelevant.

A name that I haven't seen but could be a possibility is Eric Bieniemy, OC for the Chiefs. He has shown OC talent and is well known to Dorsey.

Way early to speculate on the coach....Williams may keep the job.
The actual hiring won't be until after the playoffs/Superbowl.
Dorsey and crew will start to form a short list tomorrow, but we will need to wait until seasons end to begin the process. We will know who our next head coach is come a week or two after the Superbowl...when is that? Feb. 3rd maybe? Jan. 27th?

I don't care about the name.
Give me less ego, more discipline, someone not stuck in their/the "NFL's" ways, and someone who will hire a staff that will actually work together and not a bunch of "names" thrown together.

Riley said today at the Monday Sooner presser that he was not interested. (9-10 million might make him change his mind...lol) If they could hire DeFilippo I'd be happy with that he's young and aggressive and did great with Carson Wentz and currently Kirk Cousins. Even though his name isnt on the list above listening to talk radio today Bob Stoops name came up. He's still relatively young, from Ohio and has turned NFL offers down in the past. He's pretty bored right now and playing alot of golf. But he has an unreleased medical condition which was one of the reasons he retired. More than a few good candidates out there and plenty of time to make a calculated choice. The team has coaches in place already for the rest the year. its the offensive line and receiving corps that needs some work before the trading deadline. High hopes for the future I just hope that team management can finally get it right.

After the bowl games, you give Riley a chance to coach Mayfield again, for a ton of money, I think you’ll realize why he prefaced his comments today to leave that opportunity open.

I want Jim Schwartz and he needs to keep Gregg Williams as DC.

Greg Williams is too good a DC for the Browns so of course he will be fired when the season is over.
Whatever HC we end up with will have his two years then it's over anyways so there is no real point to getting your hopes up anyways. 9-7? Didn't make the playoffs? Fired. I called it first =)

These are all intriguing names.
Guys I wouldn't like off the top of my head that I've heard in this thread: McCarthy, Fisher, and Tomlin.
I don't know much about them at the moment to have a favorite... but Riley is intriguing because his offense would be a good fit for mayfield and it's more pro-esque than some think.
I like Flip, but one name I think I would skyrocket to the top is Shannahan if the 49ers foolishly fire him. I give him as much credit as anyone for the 7-9 season, but our Oline would need a facelift which it does anyway.
I simply don't know enough at this time to have a favorite. And im not making absolutes such as I don't want a college coach or I don't want a retread coach. I want the best fit for this team and most importantly Mayfield.

FYI. The Matt Campbell noise is legit.

just clicking.
So, this means the end of Haley and Williams I suppose? A new HC coming in and all. Wanting his own guys. Bank on it. Which means next year will be new offensive and defensive schemes, which means new players. The stars will remain, the underlying cast will experience a TON of turnover, again. I'm calling it now: The new DC will flip us back to a 3-4 which means more than half our DL will be useless and we'll begin to experiment with flipping Myles Garrett into a 3-4 OLB for a year before trading him away for a 3rd round pick to a team that will put him back at 4-3 DE where he will resume Pro Bowl seasons. I think Dorsey is smarter than that. He is building the team. I think he will hire a coach who can come in and play with what we have. Now if Jimmy gets to hire, I might agree with you.

What about Pete Carmichael, Saints' OC?
I heard his name brought up the other day, and certainly 10 years as OC of one of the best offenses in the league should warrant some attention. Also, don't know the relationship they had, but he and Gregg were brought into NO at the same time...if there was no issue, that's a path where Gregg may not be forced out.

Minn has a pretty stacked offense right now, and they were pretty good without him. I want young FIREY guy that will put in the 18 hour days, and get the job done.

Dan Campbell would be a guy I hope we look at. I get nervous when discussions center around guys with zero NFL experience. I would like to see a breakdown of the success of coaches coming from college to the NFL as a head coach and those coming in from college directly into a head coaching spot.

I'm typically not a college coach guy .. but I think that's what we'll do, and probably should. IT's the new trend ... offensive minded, young, innovative

Lincoln Riley is my #1 choice! Got to wait...I would love Mangini but he might be a little damaged himself. Don't know any young up and comers.
John DeFillipo was the one who got away...is he HC material do we lose his Offensive mind in the process?
Got to be the right choice. Dorsey didn't come to us without a list. This becomes soley his team. I like what he is doing with players, now lets see how he does with Coaches.
What are the odds Hue becomes OC and then HC of the Bengals???
Oh and Vers, you must be the kiss of death for HC..just when you like one they end up getting fired! got to laugh cause I don't want to cry. Hope the young team hangs in there!

I would imagine that Lincoln Riley is the favorite.
Someone else asked about how well do college coaches do in the NFL. I'm trying to think of some recent ones.
Chip Kelley was said to be a genius. NFL DC's soon caught up and he was a failure.
Steve Spurrier was another genius. He sucked in the NFL.
Harbaugh did well in SF.
Lane Kifflin, another offensive genius, did not do well.
Pete Carroll was bad w/the Jets and very good in Seattle.
Jim Mora Jr. was not so good.
Greg Schiano was terrible.
Mike Riley was awful.
Dave Wannestadt started off okay but turned out to be a dud.
Bobby Petrino was disgusting.
Nick Saban didn't fare so well in Miami.
Butch Davis lost more than he won.
I don't know. It seems like the hot-shot geniuses didn't do so well in the pros and that guys who were more old-school fared a bit better. But, I could be forgetting a bunch of guys.

Its a different era Vers. Riley is attractive because of the offensive trend and he is the King of the trend...Chip Kelly was a totally different system while Riley actually has a play book and there is more of what the NFL is trying to do in his game.
The NFL is already changing in that direction and we would be getting the KING of that offensive change. Also the QB that goes with it as well.
Its stuff already trying to be influxed into the NFL already.
Riley is Young. 35 years of age. and he seems to have no problem letting Williams continue with the Defense.
I don't want just ANY FLAVOR of the month college QB its got to be the perfect FIT/MARRIAGE. Look at what the Chiefs have become?
You can make a list of failures there are a ton of them. I don't want a college coach - I want Lincoln Riley! Right time right place in the history of NFL Football!
Hue, I wanted here we were the few who did and thought he deserved a 2nd chance...but he started to go downhill and the panic was visible. We still had the youngest team and we now started to lose them I think! Haley, don't know for sure but I think he was a back stabber. jmho
Haslam did the deed but this has Dorsey written all over. He stayed with Hue as long as possible, I think he is the perfect fit with Riley and Williams on Defense.
jmho
