Can any of our oline gurus give an opinion of Greg Robinson's play yesterday vs what we have seen from Desmond Harrison the past few weeks? Thanks

Vers? he's good with that

Baker Mayfield lobbies hard for more Greg Robinson at left tackle

By Mary Kay Cabot, cleveland.com

CLEVELAND, Ohio — Browns quarterback Baker Mayfield lobbied hard for more Greg Robinson at left tackle after Sunday’s 37-21 loss to the Chiefs.

On two occasions, Mayfield mentioned Robinson — who subbed for an ill Desmond Harrison — when asked about positives from the game.

“Greg Robinson starting at left tackle and playing well,’’ said Mayfield, citing Robinson as the first good thing to come out of the loss, which dropped the Browns to 2-6-1.

Earlier in his press conference, Mayfield said, “I say there was a lot to build on. I mean, we had Greg Robinson start at left tackle. He played well. Stuff like that. There's promise right there. We've just got to be able to see that positive because you know you very well could throw in the towel at this point, but that's not what we're going to do. That's not what we're about.”

Harrison came down with an undisclosed illness on Friday and was inactive for the game. He had been struggling at left tackle of late, especially during last week’s 33-18 loss to the Steelers, when he resorted to holding to protect Mayfield.

The Browns may have considered going to Robinson soon anyway to give the rookie a break, but the illness accelerated the process.

Harrison, who shows promise athletically but is extremely raw, may have hit the rookie wall before he got sick this week. Before playing at West Georgia last season, he hadn’t played football in three seasons.

Robinson, the 2014 No. 2 overall pick of the Rams when interim head coach Gregg Williams was there, was signed by the Browns as a free agent in June, but was set back in camp by a concussion. The Browns became enamored with Harrison’s athleticism, but there’s obviously a lot more than goes into playing the position.

For now, it might be Robinson’s job.

Not a guru by any stretch or measure, but I thought he did alright overall. He did get fooled on inside pass rush, but on one I noted, he was wrong, but fully engaged with his guy straightened up and had good leverage and form. Rolling mayfield would have helped or a back. Robinson was really working his position. Fewer penalties. I liked what I saw. Not sure hamilton is ready yet. I would like to see a guru break this down, and I really am disappointed in Hubbard. Is he stacking up? We need improvement at both O Tackles IMO.

what about Robinson at LT and Harrison at RT?

I don't think Baker's quotes fit the headline. I saw two positive quotes, but I didn't see Baker lobbying for more Greg Robinson.

I really hate the media. They are so irresponsible. If Baker's teammates just read the title, that would almost assuredly lead them to being upset w/Baker.

Baker praised Robinson and that is cool, but he was not "lobbying" for one guy over another. That would not play well in the locker room.

Robinson played better than Harrison. Hubbard is turrible. I'm not sure of the tackle prospects in the draft, but it should be looked at.

At DT, context and meaning are a scarecrow kicking at moving goalposts.

I read a comment or two on the Postgame thread about the OL playing poorly yesterday. I could not disagree more.

The OL played a very good game and gave Baker plenty of time to throw. They also opened up some good holes in the running game. The timing and downfield blocking on the screens was very good.

Considering that the Browns played from behind, the OL's pass pro was outstanding. Yeah, they gave up some sacks but that is going to happen. I was actually surprised by how well the line played yesterday.

I was just going to say the same thing. Baker gave Robinson props for going in there and filling in well enough. There's an ocean of difference between that and lobbying for Robinson.

Yep.

I think one of the problems w/journalism is that the reporter writes the article and then an editor writes the title for the article.

Well, it used to be that way when newspapers ruled the day. I imagine it is still the same. Maybe not? Either way, it was a poor title and Baker doesn't need that kind of crap.

Here we go again....

When we don't have a HOFER LT the problem is the QB, when we have it the problem is the QB...

Our OL is much better than the rest of the team, I actually think they are playing very good. They actually create holes for the running game....

Just give time to Baker, and get some depth on the OL, upgrades are always welcomed, but do not over invest on the OL, specially in pass protection, we have done that...

Robinson has the sixth-best grade on the #Browns offense (69.8) and the second best pass-blocking grade (80.5)

I actually think rushing stats are a bit more telling of the quality of the OL than pass protection.

And I do not want to be bashing on BM,because he is just a rookie, and he is doing good, but c'mon...he can and will do a much better job.

I actually enjoy more the OL play now, than 3/4 years ago, they are limited but they try harder.

It's whiffs like that why they gambled on going with the rookie. Robinson was really kinda horrible in preseason.

Harrison started off on fire, but has since come back down to earth. He's been exposed a bit the past few weeks and taken some heavy lumps.

Whether or not Harrison is the long term answer at LT is uncertain, but I'm definitely sure that Robinson is not.

I did not focus on him much at all yesterday, and I don't recall seeing/hearing him get called out more than once, but I know what I saw in preseason and I did not like it.

Browns is the Browns

I thought robinson was out in preseason with concussion?

When do Schwartz, Mack and Reiter become FA?

I kid, I kid.

OL isn’t our issue. Look at the Rams and Chiefs. Weapons everywhere. That makes any QB or line better. Goff was horrific as a rookie. I pray we make similar moves and Mayfield makes a similar leap. You can’t have HOF players across the board. I think our RT has been disappointing though.

As long Robinson doesn't get Baker killed, I'm ok with this. Harrison was out sick this Sunday, but he has performed more than admirably. If he ends up getting shut down for the year, I don't think it will hinder his development. He got invaluable snaps against top-tier edge rushers. He had some ups and downs, and nothing but positive should be taken from that.

Imagine him with an offseason+ of NFL training/strengthening and technique work... he should be oozing confidence going into next season.

Harrison is the 62nd ranked tackle in the NFL. I think our tackles are the worst 2 in the league as a combo goes. Robinson was much better in keeping baker clean. I roll with Robinson

oh snap.. guess we will find out this offseason if JC isn't here anymore. Sadly, John seems exactly like the kind of guy that would do this. He doesn't seem to care what people think and will say what's on his mind. Or maybe its some type of motivational technique lol

Im not, but at the same time...he has a history in the league. he's been a starter, plenty of tape on him.. Probably a little easier to help him with scheme and chips knowing where he needs the most help. Harrison hit the rookie wall. I think given an offseason with time in weight room he'll be much better next year.

Thanks. No, I hadn't read that.

It's interesting that phrases such as "decisions becoming less collaborative," "decisions were being made that seemed to come out of nowhere," and "a level of disorganization" were in that article and how those terms were used in the PC that was recently held in Cleveland.

It was also interesting to read this:

Quote:
The truth is, some of this traces back to a shift in the organizational model in 2013. Scott Pioli was the only person on the football side reporting to Hunt from 2009-12, and Hunt changed that, in part, because he wanted more oversight. So Reid, Dorsey and president Mark Donovan would all report to Hunt, as Hunt was determined not to let problems fester as they had with Pioli and ex-coach Todd Haley.

This is all very interesting.

It almost sounds like Hunt starting running things the same way Haslam does with everyone reporting to him. Hmmmm...

Intoducing for The Cleveland Browns, Quarterback Deshawn "The Predator" Watson. He will also be the one to choose your next head coach.

Not an easy transition from left to right Tackle as there has to be entire switch in footwork. A lot of thinking involved in the transition and OL you got to be natural not thinking about it.

But I haven't liked Hubbards last few games he definitely has not looked well and quite frankly I hope the next few years we invest heavily into both OT positions.

jmho...Harrison could become good but its not there yet. we will see.
