We all have favorites. I like Arians and John Harbaugh. I even like some things about Greg Williams. It's fun to speculate but as long as Dorsey is in charge of finding and hiring the new coach, I am good with that. No way do I want Haslam to be involved unless it's just to sign off on Dorsey's decision.
I just want a winner. We need players who can be part of the solution not part of the problem.

The thief and his wife WILL BE THE BIGGEST OBSTALE TO OVERCOME in our new HC search ... i mean sheesh .. its actually the ONLY OBSTACLE ...
Peen and tabber can blow all the smoke up our butts they want about the thief and his wife not being horrible owners ... it doesn’t change the FACTS!!!
Take the thief out of the equation and its possibly THE BEST JOB EVER ...
- rookie QB that has impressed everyone and has a shot ... - Ward, MG, Chubb, Randall, Obi, Landry and EVEN MORE YOUNG YOUG YOUNG TALENT ... - well respected GM - fanbase beyond starving ... - coming off of ... 3 - 13, 1 - 15, 0 - 16 and now 2 - 6 - 1 seasons .. - a top 10 pick in this years draft to add to all that talent - MOST CAP SPACE IN THE LEAGUE ...
Like i said ...
MOST ATTRACTIVE JOB EVER minus the thief ...
Dorsey has to be able to sell this .. if not .. put him in touch with me .. i’ll convince the SOB ... *LOL* .. I have never blown smoke up your butt. I don't want to get anywhere near your Butt! No doubt Haslam has made mistakes. If that means he is the worst owner, I may not agree, but I won't go out of my way to argue against either. I just go by what Ii read and hear out of the talking heads involved. Dorsey is the lead in the search for the next head coach. He is the guy looking for the next head coach. Not Jimmy, who was the last several times. Jimmy didn't have a trusted voice. I think he trusts Dorsey. If he didn't, who would be leading the search? It makes no sense that Dorsey will go over everything, talk to hundreds of people, come to a conclusion that person X is the ideal guy and then Jimmy says no, I want this guy. I just don't see it happening and you and others are worried about things I doubt will happen. If they do, if it does work out as you and Mac project, I'll fly/drive to Columbia and take you out for dinner anywhere you want, $155 per person limit, so pick a nice spot. I wouldn't want to fly/drive to Columbia to go to some dumpy buffet. Pick a place where you would be better off showing up wearing a sport coat and non jeans slacks. If not, you have to buy one of my seats at face value and sit with me at a game next year if we find a date that works for both. Face value is $155 per seat.

Riley and Oklahoma sure look the part on offense. Defense is another issue

diam, I agree with some of that. There is , in the immortal words of Paul Harvey, a “rest of the story”. Jimmy has historically set up a poor chain of command with multiple people reporting to him. Bad idea. He should have his football guy reporting to him and no one else, at least on the football side. There are reasons to be critical of haslem.
But diam, my argument is with those folks who criticize him for his hires because he cannot hire the right guy. My contention is that if you thought hiring hue as hc was a brilliant hire in 16, then saying jimmy cannot hire good people is hypocritical. Diam, I would bet if we could go back thru his hires most were praised by the same fans who call him incompetent now.
It is easy to look in hindsight and say we should not have hired a guy because he did not work out. That does not mean he was a bad hire. If we reincarnated Vince Lombardi, gave him no qb and a lousy roster and he won 2-3 games in two years would he have been a “bad hire”?
Sashi was the one hire that most people identify as a bad hire. That is worthy of discussion but not right now. Nice talkin to you diam. I hope the browns win one tomorrow.

I wouldnt call Haslam the worst owner probably not even a bad owner. At least not intentionally bad. I believe he is truly doing what he thinks is the best thing to make this a winning franchise. He does not seem to be cheap. It would be different if he was like the former owner of the Marlins whom seemed to want the cheapest roster possible. Or the Mets owners. I would even say that he is a better owner than Randy Lerner. Lerner created this mess ( we where trending upwards under Al Lerner, making the playoffs in year four I believe). At least Haslam cares about the team, or at least seems to.

Miss talking with you at the Raider games. We are going to be a lot of fun to watch AGAIN this year. You should move back! I was one of many who was fired up that we landed Hue...he was THE top guy available and we got him. Didn't work out. Hard to blame Haslam for that. Sashi is an enigma. He wasn't hired to do the job he was eventually fired-from. Didn't work out. Easy to blame Haslam for that. Dorsey is the right kind of guy and he needs a very, very long leash. I/we won't agree-with or like every move he commands...but he's the right kind of guy to trust in. Did you sign up for ESPN+ to watch the Raider games?

Bad bet 'peen, you lose either way! I don't think so. I enjoy a nice rib eye on the bone...a KC cut, with all the stuff. Add in a salad and a few nice glasses of wine and you can run it up to $150 per plate pretty easily....I do it often enough. It isn't often I get someone to pay face for my seats

Pete Carmichael Jr played a large role in shaping Drew Brees' career, joining the Saints as their QB coach in 2006 when Brees was signed by the Saints and when Sean Payton was hired as the Saints HC.
IMO, one of the best moves the Browns could make is to bring in a HC who has helped to mold one of the best QBs to ever play the game.
I've heard it said that Baker Mayfield reminds some of a young Drew Brees. The best move Dorsey could make is do whatever it takes to land Carmichael Jr.

Didn't see him miss one tackle...or drop one pass...lol
Love his hire of Dorsey, the best move to date that ANY OF OUR OWNERS MADE! But he doesn't get credit for that. We got the present and the future, you wish to dwell on the past so be it.
I love our direction.
I might as well put this here as I don't remember the thread. But its is about Safety with a penalty. I watched the Ohio State game yesterday. The QB was in the endzone and there was a hold called. NO SAFETY as the Hold took place on the 2 yard line. All these years I have thought that was a safety. And in all my years coaching it never took place.
Just not a common thing penalty outside of the endzone but ball in the endzone. My apologies to all as I was totally wrong.
Learn something every day!
Defense wins championships. Watson play your butt off! Go Browns! CHRIST HAS RISEN! GM Strong! & Stay safe everyone!

Intoducing for The Cleveland Browns, Quarterback Deshawn "The Predator" Watson. He will also be the one to choose your next head coach.

There’s lots of things u dont see bro .. lots of things ... Like i said .. u can alter history all u want ... he has been the worst owner in the history of sports ... FACTS are FACTS bro ... he has a SHOT to turn it around ... but so far ... FACTS are FACTS .... Bro .. once again u show your COMPLETE AND UTTER IGNORANCE on officiating ... There are MANY MANY MANY RULES that are different between the nfl and college ... no clue if the safety rule is one of them .. But bro .. what u see on Saturday when it comes to rules like that ... it could have ZERO TO DO how its enforced on Sunday ... Some rules are the same .. some aren’t .. the college game usually lags 2 or 3 years behind and then decides if they want to implement any changes there pro counterparts have made ... some they do, some they don’t ... only time college ever leads is in safety ... they were way ahead of the pro’s in baseball and football .. hasn’t been many rule changes in hoops in that regard ... One thing i learned is that COACHES DON’T KNOW THE RULES ... they think they do .. but like almost everyone on here ... THEY DON’T KNOW WHAT THEY DON’T KNOW ... Players neither ... ....

j/c: Browns' coach search brings trepidation after Haslams ignored pleas to hire Sean McDermott last timeWhile there have been reports that embattled Browns owners Dee and Jimmy Haslam will be allowing general manager John Dorsey a wide berth to oversee their latest coaching search, there remains trepidation by many in the coaching community about that process and the repeated failings of that organization. The job – generally open every couple of years after the Haslams assumed control of the team in 2012 – is certainly a much more appealing prospect than in years past, with the roster much improved and Baker Mayfield looking like a potential franchise quarterback. But the Haslams' reputation in coaching circles precedes them, their past searches have often taken strange turns and the family has been increasingly hands-on during its ownership, which has many wondering about who will ultimately select the next coach. Even within the Browns building, there is still some skepticism about how the process will unfold. When the Haslams hired Jackson, for instance, in 2016, they did so against the wishes and counsel of virtually their entire football operations staff, sources said. They had added analytics expert Paul DePodesta to the fold and, along with then-GM Sashi Brown and some other analytics experts, the Haslams put together a criteria and process to identify their next head coach. Sean McDermott, current Bills coach, was the overwhelmingly popular choice by everyone involved in the process. The data they used, as well the other elements of the criteria set up at the start of the process, all pointed to McDermott, a highly-regarded defensive coordinator with Carolina at the time. Sources said Brown and DePodesta both made impassioned attempts to dissuade the Haslams from not following that process and going with Jackson, instead. Jackson went on to become, statistically, the worst head coach in modern NFL history with a 3-36-1 mark (.080 winning percentage). Under a prior regime, a lengthy and expensive quarterback analysis, as well as the old-school scouting work done in the process, pointed to Cleveland using a first-round pick on Teddy Bridgewater in 2014; Haslam, sources said, spearheaded support for troubled Johnny Manziel (eight career NFL starts), who the Browns selected 22nd overall, 10 picks ahead of Bridgewater. Hence the need for the Browns to give every indication that things will be different this time around, and that Dorsey will be running the operation. To this point, no head coach under the Haslams has won more than 10 games (Mike Pettine, 2014-2015), and Pettine is the only Browns coach in that time to win more than five total games. Time will tell if 2019 is truly different. https://www.cbssports.com/nfl/news/brown...mott-last-time/

Then when he does not work out ....oh my the owner is an idiot. I think you're one of those fans who think people on a message board who aren't in charge of hiring anybody makes a difference. When I buy a billion dollar team and have the responsibility of hiring a GM and and NFL HC, get back to me. So far it seems you wish to shift the responsibility of a poor hire on the opinions of the fan base. That's not how any of this works. lmao In the mean while I'm just a know nothing fan on a message board just like you are. What you're missing is the stupid structure Haslam has set up here. The HC and GM both answer to Haslam. When there are problems and Haslam asks each what's wrong, soon they're pointing the finger at each other. That isn't how the power structure works in the NFL. If you can't trust the GM you hire to oversee the operation, you hired the wrong guy.

diam, I agree with some of that. There is , in the immortal words of Paul Harvey, a “rest of the story”. ... loved Paul .. he was a DAILY MUST for me for years ... man .. thanks for the trip down memory lan dawg .. got a big ole smile on my face right now ... thanks ... I think when were done talking were gonna find out we pretty much agree on about 90 - 95 % and our differences are really minicule ones ... Jimmy has historically set up a poor chain of command with multiple people reporting to him. Bad idea. He should have his football guy reporting to him and no one else, at least on the football side. There are reasons to be critical of haslem. We agree there ... i take it a step further ... its not just the structure its the ORDER OF THE HIRES ... i’ve Touched on it a few times ... no one seems to pick up on it ... it’s REALLY IMPORTANT ... He’s hired his HC and then his GM all but one time ... that was when he hired a lawyer to run the personal dept. of an nfl team ... Thats HUGE ... its BACKWORDS ... and has led to a lot of the DYSFUNCTION cause of his dumb ass org, chart ... If Dorsey gets to hire his guy ... ORG CHART WON’T MATTER BRO ... its a TRUST thing as much as anything .. U agree with that dawg? ... I cant argue that ... its all true ... i started with I can only speak for me .. then proceeded to say why i say that and don’t believe I’m hypocritical ... it the ENTIRE PICTURE not just the Hue hire ... IMO his bet hire was CHUD ... again .. the thiefs CLUELESSNESS led to that debacle not a bad hire on Chud IMO ... I think we agree there ... no? ... if not, please tell me how we differ ... It is easy to look in hindsight and say we should not have hired a guy because he did not work out. That does not mean he was a bad hire. If we reincarnated Vince Lombardi, gave him no qb and a lousy roster and he won 2-3 games in two years would he have been a “bad hire”? No argument from me ... hopefully u can see thats not what i’ve Done here ... Sashi was the one hire that most people identify as a bad hire. That is worthy of discussion but not right now. Nice talkin to you diam. I hope the browns win one tomorrow. I wasn’t done chatting bro ... *L* ... hopefully your not either ... if u are .. and we are done ... If the team finishes strong, we'd have to consider just keeping Gregg at HC, and Freddie at OC. I like that Freddie is allowing the offense to chime in on what type of plays to run.

We are going to be the place to go for potential HCs this time around. No more settling for who is willing to take the job. With Baker on the roster and the team showing talent, coaches will want this gig.

Yeah, the Bills have been so great under McDermott. Last year, with an established team, he won 9. That's nice ..... but both their offense and defense got worse last year, compared to 2016 ..... and they have, obviously, truggles this year. But YTown, some might say, look at how they let some of their talent go ...... Yeah, they did lose some talent, but not like we did in 2016. We just dumped talent, and didn't even try to re-sign our own guys.

If what coach is the best for Mayfield is the criteria, then the decision is easy:
Bruce Arians
Its not even a contest:
Last time Browns were in the playoffs Arians was the OC Arians is the one who developed Ben Rothlisberger Arains later developed Andrew Luck in the NFL
Bruce Arians with young Qb is like striking gold.
Arians will keep Kitchens on staff, and Mayfield will have a Pro Bowl year under Arians, Ask Rothlisberger how good Arians is
The fact Arians says the Browns job is the only job he would even consider, He is probably the best coach we could get. Sure, I like Dave Toub, but Arians is just a real deal offensive genius, the guy lives, eats, sleeps, and dreams football...he even made Kelly Holcomb look like an All pro when he was here and Holcomb sucked...imagine what he would do with Mayfield..

I like Gregg Williams pressers. He speaks plainly, and directly. I have a feeling that is the same way he is with the players. I think they like and respect that.
If you already have a coaching staff in place that the team seems to like, and respond to, do you really need to change?
Obviously, the rest of the season will tell the story in much more detail, but if we can field a team that plays all the time like I saw today, chasing another head coach would be a step backward.

Pit, I was going to answer you earlier but I got to watching a dang good football game!! Just a great afternoon!!
Reading what you said makes me wonder if you even read what I wrote. I specifically cited the wacky chain of command as a problem. I said there were reasons to be critical of haslem.
But would you show me anything I said that message board fans affect anything or anybody. Nobody gets hired or fired based upon what we say on this board.
Criticize haslem all you want for his many foibles. But when you praise a decision to hire a coach or gm and then tell us how incompetent haslem is for hiring the guy when he does not work out you are a phony bologna.
Fact is you have been on this board dang near every day on dang near every thread telling us that hue did not deserve to be fired, that he is a better coach than his record shows. Actually I tend to agree with that. Then you say jimmy made a bad hire by hiring hue so he is incompetent. So which is it pit?? Was hue a good hire or a bad hire.

Imagine only 3 wins in 2.5 seasons or making the playoffs... The Bills just won 41-3 with a quarterback they just signed like 2 weeks ago. When is the last time we won a game by 38 points? We traded for the quarterback who led them to the playoffs and we could only manage just a tie with him. Our coaching was far inferior to that of the Bills. If McDermott is fired we should definitely take a look. Their season is akin to what we went through the past 2 seasons... while the Bills are winning games with 5th string QBs, our coach would stand around saying our guys need to get better while him and all his supporters kept saying he didn't have enough talent. Imagine if we had McDermott as HC right now, we could have been marching into the playoffs instead of playing for draft position. Sorry for slight tangent, but coaching makes a world of difference and hopefully everyone can see that now.

I seem to remember (quite a while back, so sorry, no link) that Williams said he didn't want to be a HC again. He is now Interim HC partially because there wasn't really another option. If I am remembering correctly, will the time as Interim HC change his feelings? Was the original statement just lip service to make Hue feel less insecure when hiring him? Or did he really mean it and once the season is over, he will come out and say that he doesn't want to be full time HC?
Am I perfect? No Am I trying to be a better person? Also no

Kind of backs up what I've been saying about the Haslams involvement in the football side of the franchise. Having the HC report to the owner instead of the GM is over the top and likely a deal breaker to attract any high profile coaching candidate.
Haslam's record...he fires his HC every 1.6 yrs...and btw, his team has the worst record in the nfl over the last 6.5 yrs...since Haslam bought the Browns.

If he would hire the right one, he wouldn't have to fire them.

Arians as HC; Williams as Asst HC/DC; Kitchens OC*
I’d love Arians here. I hope Williams stays in some shape or form. Kitchens has been a revelation. Still need to see the remainder but we looked like a bonafide NFL team which was being coached well. Even STs.
* if we play like yesterday again rest of the way.

The Bills have been a weird team this year. I actually think that teams look past them. At least I believe that's what happened with the Titans and Vikings.
Yesterday, the Bills beat a bad Jets team, whose QB was out with an injury.
The Bills have 3 wins this year, as do we. They have the worst offense in the league, which is saying something given their 3 wins. (31 in yards and 32 in scoring) Their defense is #1 in yards, but 19 in scoring.
My point is that just because Hue didn't work out, a different coach, having mixed results with a better team, just might not have either.
Micah 6:8; He has shown you, O mortal, what is good. And what does the Lord require of you? To act justly and to love mercy, and to walk humbly with your God.

I follow you... and there's no real way to know what would have happened if we Haslam hadn't gotten in the way and we hired McDermott over Hue. All we know is that Hue was forced on Sashi and that type of marriage almost never works out. Sashi was put in a tough spot, but he was a true class act. I'm happy with Dorsey, but we'll never know what could have been.

Buffalo wins GOING AWAY in minnesota and new york, but then looks awful other weeks. Very odd team
"First down inside the 10. A score here will put us in the Super Bowl. Cooper is far to the left as Njoku settles into the slot. Moore is flanked out wide to the right. Chubb and Ford are split in the backfield as Watson takes the snap ... Here we go."

Buffalo wins GOING AWAY in minnesota and new york, but then looks awful other weeks. Very odd team There the worst run franchise in football today .. they’ve taken our place in football ... *LOL* .. McDermott isn’t long for Buffalo ... he’ll be fired along with the GM in 2 or 3 years ... Pegulla is beyond patient ... he is the opposite of the thief ... he makes horrible hires and then waits to long ... *L* .. Some don’t pay attention yet run their mouths like they have a clue ... anyone that thinks McDermott is a good coach or has done a good job isn’t paying attention ... There simply taking some low hanging fruit like the Vikes. Jets blowouts and ignoring all the other games ... if that happend here the same guys blowing him would be shouting from the roof tops about the inconsistencies ... Some dig in to a stance and go to MORONIC LENGHTS to show how smart and right they are .. anyone thinking McDermott would have been the answer isn’t paying attention or just dug in way to far ...
