im telling you, some of you guys are setting yourselves up for a world of hurt on sunday.

dont think that hue being with the bengals somehow gives our team an advantage. as i said a few days ago, Hue was actually GOOD with the bengals, and a big reason as to why they made the playoffs during that particular stretch of seasons, which is why he was being sought after for HC.

i really hope the players aren't doing what the fans are and thinking we have an advantage going into sunday. the bengals are still a better team than us, at least for now.

without Aj green, they are below us. I'd take BM over Dalton and our backs over theirs, and landry over anyone not named AJ over there..we are better defensively. They aren't better, if anything its dead even and its just going to be who executes better

I don't know if you watched their game yesterday or not. I did. They're a very beatable team.

i did too cause i got to watch my favorite player.

there's a good chance AJ Green comes back. thats huge for Dalton.

just because they are beatable doesn't mean we're gonna beat them. the Bucs were beatable too. the raiders were beatable too. the saints and steelers were beatable too.

and yet we lost.

I have the same formula for every game my Browns play; expect the worst and hope for the best. When something good happens and that isn't too often, I am pleasantly surprised. It works for thumbsup me

Carmichael sounds like a good candidate. IMO our next HC coach should have experience as an NFL coach be it a HC, OC, DC etc. I'd rather not see a college coach come here as HC.

The Bengals made the playoffs 3 straight years before Hue even became the their OC and statistically they got worse the 2 years he was there then the year before he took over.

And he was still good. And still made the playoffs.

And still beat the Browns.

I agree that it doesn't mean we'll beat them. I just mean they are a very beatable team. I don't believe they are a better team than Atlanta. It will take us playing as well as we did against Atlanta. And with such a young team with a rookie QB there's no guarantee that we will be on some straight trajectory. Young teams often have ebbs and flows that can change from week to week. They can look very good one week and play poorly the next.

But I think we stand a better chance then in years past. The last two weeks we have cut down on penalties. And if you look back at that alone we killed ourselves in a lot of games on penalties alone. Stopping drives and giving our opponents a lot of free yardage.

Baker seems to be on a path of steady improvement. Both of those things are positives. Does that mean we'll beat the Bengals? Certainly not. But I like our odds much better than had we played them a few weeks ago.

I don't really look at Hue joining the Bengals as an assistant in the middle of the season as meaning all that much. He's going to bring some inside info, but our coaching staff will have had two weeks to plan for that.

The Browns haven't won a road game since Hue Jackson was hired to coach the Browns so I'm not sure why I'd start giving him credit if the Browns don't get a road win here. We're going to have to break that streak eventually though, no better time than now.

nah. I do think Condoleezza Rice could have done the 'CEO of the coaches' role better than Hue but by no means do I want to hire her as head coach.

I do think having her in to discuss leadership, organization, general philosophies of success, etc. is a perfectly reasonable idea but people got so caught up in the (erroneous) report that we were considering her as a head coach that nobody thought it was a good idea. Or maybe it just isn't a good idea.. sometimes it's hard to tell.

I don't think Hue "sucked" when he was here, I don't think he sucks now. He, like the fans, dealt with so much trauma, he couldn't see the forest through the trees.

That said, I have little to no fear that Hue makes a difference Sunday. If we execute like last week, we will win more often than not - against most competition. If we don't - we won't.

Their D is what got them to the playoffs all those years not their O.

2011
O was ranked 20 with Jay Gruden as OC and Dalton's rookie year
D was ranked 7

2012
O (22) w/Gruden
D (6)

2013
O (10) w/Gruden
D (3)

2014
O (15) w/Hue
D (22)

2015
O (15) w/Hue

To add to this: it looks like Dorsey got the QB right. Now he has to get the coach right.

I'm not think about just an upgrade. We want to get someone great-- someone who is smart, innovative, can put together a great staff, lead the team, etc. Get that guy who can lead a team to the playoffs every year and win couple Super Bowls in his career (at least).

I think Hue being the DC for the Bengals is a big disadvantage to us because he will know everything that our offense is doing including the verbage.

Hue was already set to be the next HC of the Bengals and Marvin already knows he wants him to still take that roll. IF it was Hue that did such a bad job as our HC then the Bengals would not want him back and back SO FAST. I mean what HC is going to win with an entire team of rookies? Then once they get some experience you go and change the entire offense on them and give them an OC who is trying to sabotage he HC to take his job.

This team put Hue in an impossible situation so no I don't blame Hue at all. I blame Haslem. Haslem will continue to doom us till he shows he can be patient enough for an offensive system to get established for 3 solid seasons and players can play off instinct rather than thinking too much every play.

You aren't making a ton of sense.

"IF" -- how is there an "if" in that sentence?

We removed Hue and discipline, execution and penalties all improved immediately. You think that's coincidence? . . . Maybe Williams isn't the answer ... but when you remove your HC and things that the HC can control/influence get MUCH better under a temp HC who is NOT the long term answer, then I think it's really more than fair to say that the previous HC was the problem.

The playbook - the calls - the way Kitchens calls plays - adding wrinkles to the playbook and adding new plays have all been discussed. Sure Hue knows the players and there is some advantage ... it's not much more than teams could glean from game tape. Hue being with the Bengals is not a significant advantage.

Not being a joker, just curious.
How could this translate to stopping our offense in the heat of the battle? I mean, if we're in a hurry up offense, would it even matter if Hue knew exactly what we were doing? How would him knowing translate to the players on the field? I imagine he could coach on "verbage" during the week, but then if it has been changed - they're screwed.

Are they a better team than Atlanta it’s AJ playing and Julio out? ...

To me ... there the same team ... a lot like us ... VERY INCONSISTENT and could win or lose on any given week ... they’ve got MAJOR HOLES ... both of them ...

Only difference ... our problem is MORE YOUTH BASED ... we are still short a few players but we have enough talent to win on any given sunday against most teams ... there’s some with our injuries that our out of our league ...

I got kwhip learning how to fly planes and shuttles and Cap’s working with the distributors and deepsouth’s doing his thing as is BDU in Aussie land in preparation for next years possible destinations ...

There was no "IF" anywhere in my post.

Like I said, when you have a new system and an OC that is trying to sabotage the team to steal the HCing job it destroys team chemistry. They would have got the same results just by firing the OC instead of both.

For the moment Kitchens has the advantage that defenses have no idea what he will call play wise because there is nothing to watch film on. That honeymoon period won't last forever. Teams will eventually have enough game film to know his tendencies. It's at that point we get to see what he is made of. I'm on the record though that I LOVE how Kitchens is play calling right now. He is using a cognitive style of coaching that I strongly endorse and love.

The Browns won't be changing the playbook or verbage in the middle of the season. It's just impossible to do that. So yes, Hue can certainly coach the Bengal's players to listen to the play calling at the line of scrimmage and help them know what the offense is doing or at least have an advantage.

Will it be a huge advantage? Who knows. It certainly won't be a disadvantage for the Bengals though like some are saying.

Quality resume.

Most likely a serious candidate.

Personally, I love the Saints offense and think it would match up well with Baker's skills.

diam...partially correct.

The playbook will not change but plays will be added that Hue and the Bengals have never seen.

Some of the verbiage at the line of scrimmage will change to take advantage of any attempt by Hue and the Bengals to guess what play the Browns offense might be running.

Mayfield will likely use some dummy calls in an attempt confuse the Bengals. It becomes a mind game between our QB and offensive coaching staff VS the Bengals defense and coaching staff.

Pete Carmichael has been associated with the molding of Drew Brees and the Saints offense since 2006.

I see Mayfield as a Drew Brees type QB and I can't think of another coaching candidate to mold Baker into one of the best QBs in the NFL.

Carmichael's coaching tree...

Marty Schottenheimer
Sean Payton

Regarding Marty I don't know if the NFL has had a better teacher.

There is not one aspect of football that Marty could not teach.

Payton of course comes from Parcells.

I agree. It doesn't give us a advantage It gives them some advantage. I have never thought that Hue was a total idiot. He is a good coach and can help a team against us.

I still think we can win.
