Half the fun is "pretending" to be the GM. Be that at draft time or now with this search.
Speaking only for myself I like to look at what coaching candidates have done. I enjoy the draft as well.
Of course I don't get the chance to go deep like be involved in the interview process. As far the draft I can sure look at tape. I don't attend anything live but I can sure form an opinion.
In this case I trust Dorsey. He has a proven record.
And I believe he will select the right guy for the Browns.
Honestly, as far as the draft I have been more accurate than the people we have had as GM's. Especially in regards to quarterbacks.
Trying to predict who Dorsey will select, based on his draft record, might involve thinking outside the box. Twice, with the Chiefs and Browns, he has drafted a QB about whom there was no consensus, and been right. Twice he has passed on top of the draft running backs and drafted studs after the first round. Twice he has taken troubled WR in later rounds. Hill has proven, Callaway is showing promise.
I'm not trying to predict, or guess, who Dorsey will tab as the next head coach, but I do think that following conventional wisdom is not the best way to do so.
1. #GMstrong 2. "I'm just trying to be the best Nick I can be." ~ Nick Chubb 3. Forgive me Elf, I didn’t have faith. ~ Tulsa 4. ClemenZa #1
A handful of posters on this board would have done a much better job over the last 20 years than any of your so called “folks who make a living in the nfl” ...
and a few thousand more have sucked worse than our front offices.
Now when you bring up Sahsi I think your 1,000 percent wrong. He tanked perfectly while setting us up for a future which is what he was hired to do. These people who think Sashi was hired to make this team a contender in 2 or 3 years know less about football than they do about quantum physics.
{quote] call me what u want GM[/quote]
I am going to call you tall, dark, handsome, and smarter than your average bear. Hows that bro lol
I think the NFL is currently copying the college schemes more than the other way around (like it used to be) ... as a result, hiring a college coach might be the WAY to go anymore
You are preaching to the choir here. I was talking about the NFL being forced to change their ways 6-7-8 years ago. I told people that as HS teams and the college game go spread offense, the NFL would be forced to modify their position on having a drop back QB because pretty soon they wouldn't be able to find one.
Not many people liked me saying that, but it is upon us. A few of the honest posters who were around will remember I was talking about this a long time ago..
If everybody had like minds, we would never learn.
I’ll focus on the posters on here that have a clue ... u can take the rest ... ...
Ok .. educate me ... tell me why i am wrong about sashi .....
what was the roll sashi was hired for? ... please be specific ... cause i will have questions when your done ...
I’m serious ... i would love to learn what i dont know ... IGNORANCE is bliss .. and i may be blissful as all heck in this case and if so would like to move out of blissville ... lord only knows i’ve Been there enough i could become a permanent resident .. *L* ...
Please ... tell me what he was hired for and what the plan was? ...
And please remember witch group of posters i THINK i’m In .. what group u put me in is irrelivent here ... *LOL* ...
I think the plan was just as the thief said ... give them 5 years ... 1 to tear completely down and evaluate ... then u have 2 or 3 years to build and we need to see growth along the way culminating with a serious run in 4 or 5 years ... .
Thats a REASONABLE PLAN ... i have no clue what the heck the thiefs plan was ... it was dumb from the begging considering it started out having a lawyer in charge of personal ..
Now maybe the plan was to let Sashi tear it down and then hire someone like Dorsey to construct the re-build and have him under sashi but in “charge” ... i dont know ...
Not sure why u need a lawyer to tear it down ... but OK ... its the thief after all .. *LOL* ..
Ok .. so please ... educate me bro .. what is it i dont know about the plan that makes me so off base ... what is it dont know ...
Depo is one.....he ranked Baker as the #1 QB. Dorsey relies on him and his staff more than some want to think.
Got a link for that?
I don't need a link. I can use my brain. It was well reported Depo ranked Bake #1, you can look that up and it is evident that Dorsey liked Bake. I am not saying Deops ranking sold the pick. I think it verified what Dorsey was thinking.
Dorsey isn't against analytics like some around here. I can't help it you don't think so. He is a smart guy. He uses all the tools at his disposal.
If everybody had like minds, we would never learn.
Math don’t come close to adding up in your scenario ...
I’m suppose to believe that the thief went from a bumbling idiot of an owner to a “genuis” owner over night .... naaaa ....
If Sashi would have found a QB OR let the AJ deal go through he’d still be here ....
The thief actually benefited from having such a DUMB ASS plan and got lucky as hell Dorsey was sitting there in the wings ...
WE BACKED into this ...
And guess what ... just like with all this 2 year old BS over Sashi/Hue ... Sashi/Dorsey ....
I COULD CARE LESS .....
I’M JUST HAPPY WERE FINALLY HERE
This is by FAR THE BEST “GROUP” we’ve had here and the TALENT PROVES IT!!!
I’m GRATEFUL to all ... i’m Actually warming to the thiefs plan .. *LOL* ....
Ya’all can spend your time re-hashing all this NEGATIVE CRAP ...
I’ll be on th Isle enjoying the times ...
Thank your lucky stars that Sashi DIDN'T let the AJ deal go through. He took the sword on that one for all of us. AJ would be our QB right now, not Bake.
I will be forever grateful......good gosh man. Hue was about to get us fleeced.
As I look back, it is incredible to think how bad Hue was for this team.
I am starting to take some stock into the thoughts that Hue was a plant. It didn't take very long for him to get hired back by the Bengals.
If everybody had like minds, we would never learn.
Not sure why people keep forgetting that the Haslams brought in outside consultants such as Parcells, Wolf, Singletary, etc to evaluate the situation and offer suggestions.
I don't think we "backed into" anything. I think the Haslams listened to the advice of the experts and went w/firing Sashi, bringing in Dorsey, and retaining Hue.
Any links on keeping Hue? Not that it matters.
My point is I think Haslam finally gets it to some degree. How much? Time will tell.
If everybody had like minds, we would never learn.
The people who hosed truckers are going to jail. Haslam was never charged.....to quote our friend Vers....have any links to where Halsam was charged with a crime?
It doesn't matter what you think. It only matters what you can prove. Nobody turned on Haslam, and he was a big target.
If everybody had like minds, we would never learn.
U bored .. your going awfully far back to dig these up ... *L* ..
I’ve NEVER ASKED for a link in my entire time on the board ...
I would LOVE to see a link PRE DRAFT that said Depo had Bake ranked #1 due to analytics ... or post draft will do ...
JUST ONE LINK PLEASE ...
I find it INCREDIBLY hard to believe hat any team releases there analytical info at any point on anything ...
So please ... LINK FOR DEPO HAVING BAKE #1 based on Depo’s ANYALYTICS .. u do realize ... theres not just one formula ... no? ...
First time ever ... LINK PLEASE ... not calling u out per se ... just have heard that more than once and so it should be easy to find the link ...
I didn't did them up. The thread was bumped back to the top. I just picked up at where I last followed the thread. I didn't pay attention to the dates.
U do have a big brain Peen ... much bigger than mine .... but its not that big bro that u can know what depo’s Qb rankings were ...

Yup ... and i’ll Go to bed thinking OJ was innocent tonight also peen ... cause our justice system is the be all end all ... ...
Your in a mood tonight ... go find someone else to commensurate with about Saint Sashi the lawyer that fell on his sword for us ... *LOL* ...
What a great guy ... he leaves us with a QB room with a grand total of like 6 nfl starts .... with exaclty ZERO NFL WINS under there belts ... and then he fell on his sword for us ... SAINT SASHI is the best .... ...
U gotta love perception ... and tonight I think an extended happy hour may be in the cards ... ...

All's good...time for bed....I can't quite seem to get the quotes right. I didn't dig this up. It popped up at the top of the list and I started to comment.

I agree. That's why I switched to Bombay Sapphire and tonic.

Riley isn't some shlub who is coaching in his 1st season ever. He has 11 years experience at the college level, from WR coach, to OC/QB, to Head Coach at a major university. No, he hasn't been an NFL coach .... but you know what? If you bring in strong assistant coaches, that's fine. I think that Dorsey could be a real asset to a guy like Riley in this regard.
Also, yes there is a difference between coaching a college team and a veteran NFL team ..... but we have a very young NFL team here .... which is likely to remain young next season.
Micah 6:8; He has shown you, O mortal, what is good. And what does the Lord require of you? To act justly and to love mercy, and to walk humbly with your God.

U sure?
Maybe Wilson, RGiii, Mariota, Watson and Jackson? Jackson is going to get KILLED the way Griffin did. PRAY Baltimore moves on from Flacco. Advantage US!!!!!
Then comes Goff, Wentz, Mahomes, Mayfield, Darnold, Allen, Rosen.
May have been Spread in College, but definitely Pocket QBs.
You're prediction hasn't come to fruition. Pocket is still alive and well.

Your correct it was/is a five year plan. Sashi was to rip the team down to the studs for a rebuild. Why hire a lawyer? Because no no experienced GM was going to come in and tank on purpose. They were not going to ruin their reputation that way, nor would most of them be able to swallow their pride and do so.
The other part of his job was to cut our salary way down so we had the room to rebuild when we needed it and to load us up with draft picks. Where he and the Browns failed was in making most of those picks, but he did add some young talent Ogbah, Schobert, Kindred, Devalve, Higgens, Garrett, Peppers, Njoku, Ogunjobi, Boddy-Calhoun, Coley, Zeitler, and Tretter.
The plan was for Sashi to go after year two or three depending on how things were going, and when a good football GM became available.
… and DePodesta is just chilling in the background :-)
I think he is doing a great job and learned one significant lesson when he explained us passing on wentz … there is no value in him being in front of a mic
All's good...time for bed....I can't quite seem to get the quotes right. I didn't dig this up. It popped up at the top of the list and I started to comment.
Bourbon is a wonderful thing, but a evil thing as well.
1. I have maintained an open mind. You guys act as if I said its Riley and its that or the highway.
2. I also have been real in the sense that I have not educated myself on the candidates. All I know is that Arians threw his hat into the ring.
3. I would not mind at all the guys we got here continue obviously the next 6 games will have a lot to say about that.
4. What I do know is that Ron Wolf again reading his book "the packer way" clearly stated that to be a championship caliber team and dynasty, you needed two things:
a. A super star QB, thank goodness it looks like we are close to establishing that.
b. A super star HC, That is why I keep mentioning Riley, experience...yada yada, college yada yada. What I do know is he is the only one out there that I see in that caliber of Super Star HC. You tell me who else?
Also what I see is Dorsey taking a chance, Like he took with Baker a 6 foot QB that in the NFL HISTORY since we are citing HISTORY...would have taken him in the 2nd round, similar to how Drew Brees was taken in the 2nd. Similar to how Rodgers a little taller then Baker was taken at #24. But he took a Shot at Super Star!
Now we are at the crossroads of the Second part. Super Star HC...keep in mind Dorsey has a lot of roots with the Packers and Wolf. So I look around at Super Star candidates for HC...in my short data base that is who I come up with.
I don't see you or others and btw don't class me with a group. Devicedawg...I'm sure he's a good guy but we are totally different in how we get to where we are going. So don't lump me in. Again I don't see you making any suggestions on a Super Star HC...all I see is you immediately stating how it cannot possibly be who I pointed out. And the reasons you give me is HISTORY, I can care less of the history. My questions are can he handle it.
Will it be worth the one year of getting use to the NFL for having a superstar HC.
We've tried everything here. But don't be so sure that Dorsey won't go that direction and I'm talking about one guy and if he's who I THINK HE IS, then its a possibility. If he is not in that genius mold then forget about it. But what if he is? Would you not think Dorsey would make that move? He would go with Kitchens assuming they can work together. Would Williams want to stay after being over looked? But we would need a strong DC who could run it on his own.
All I've said is that, if this Lincoln Riley is a true Football genius (not my words, but hear it stated all the time, even this past weekend from the commentators) I expect Dorsey to look long and hard at him. Keeping in mind he spent a lot of time with him last year after leaving KC and looking at Baker close and personal.
Keep in mind at least 4 NFL HC had contacted Riley inquiring about his offensive theories. that of what I know of..possibly more???
All this Chip Kelley stuff is just BS crapola. You got an opinion about Riley ok. But cut this garbage about Chip Kelly its nowhere close to being the same. Just like Mayfield is/was another Manzel!
And what is the difference if he had 4 years of experience or 2...like its some big revelation or something.
Can he handle it? I leave those decisions to Dorsey cause he knows, he spent time with Riley. He lets Mayfield call him and speak to him time to time. Who does that???
When did Chip Kelly's QB do that?
We got an important decision ahead. Do we go for the Super Star HC...if not Riley then you tell me WHO???
I can play your game and give 1,001 reasons why not. That is so easy to do. Factoid, ergo he cannot be the guy tabber you are an idiot...lol oh and devicedawg too...
I get it. But my data base is not that large so I guess yours must be. Who else is a Super Star HC candidate?
Defense wins championships. Watson play your butt off! Go Browns! CHRIST HAS RISEN! GM Strong! & Stay safe everyone!
Watch that game last night and tell me that was not close to a college type game as there is. That is the new NFL. Lincoln Riley would have fit in perfectly orchestrating an offense to do similar things.
Based on what McVay is doing with the Rams. Based on the NFL chatter and respect and attention Riley is getting & based on the number of HC's who will be replaced .... I am 100% certain Riley is going to get interviewed for several spots this off season. It wouldn't surprise me to see him as an NFL HC next season or the year after. In fact I think odds are strong that he will be an NFL HC within 18 months.
That said - I don't want him as HC of the Browns. Not unless it was some sort of deal to learn under Arians for 2 seasons.
The more things change the more they stay the same.
WHY HAS THAT NOT COME OUT NOW? ... if the plan all along was for Sashi to be in charge of the teardown and then cede to a Dorsey type ...
EVERYTHING ELSE LEAKED over the last two years ... is that the ONE THING HUES KEEPING MUM ON BRO? ...
Seriously ... u don’t think during Hues morning show tour he wouldn’t have mentioned that Sashi was only there to tear things down and then we were going to bring on someone else to build it back up so u KNEW BIGTIME LOSING WAS BAKED INTO THE EQUATION ... how could they have that plan and expect me to win? ...
I get why the thief wouldn’t want that to get out ... I get that ... but based off everything else .. what r the odds Hue wouldn’t have spilled the beans or had his mouthpiece leak it ...
Thats an AWFUL BIG HOLE in your “plan” bro ... care to adress it?
PS. Not so sure no gm would have taken that deal ... not a huge factor in this as me thinks your full of poop on this one ... if not and u have your always spot on inside info ... that shot oughta pry what u know that we dont out of u ... *L* ...
Sorry bro .. i thought of that .. its LOGICAL ... was even going to mention that exact scenario in my reply to u ... where Sashi tore it down and then they brought in a Dorsey type to report to him ...
PROBLEM IS ... if that was the plan ... it would have gotten out by now ... and thats pretty much a NO-BRAINER ... no?
My beef with u was solely with the Ried/Riley thing .. no need to re-hash it .. waste of time ..
We disagreed on the Riley thing ... if u still think hes a viable candidate we disagree ... i dont see anyone with 2 years of HC experience AND/OR zero experience in the nfl ... just thought of this ... not only as a coach but as a player also .. he has literally zero nfl experience ...
U said u weren’t educated on him ... well now that u are as far as his lack of experience in the nfl or as length of time as a HC ... do u still think he’s a viable candidate ... your opinion ... not what u will do if we hire him .. if we hired hue back we know you’d find a positive spin on it somehow ... *L* ...
I have NO CLUE what Dorsey will do ... NONE ..
I dont want McCarthy .. would not be happy and would be vocal about it ... but i’d Understand it ... Riley i would not understand ... u may not agree with it .. but can u see my angle on it?
WHY HAS THAT NOT COME OUT NOW? ... if the plan all along was for Sashi to be in charge of the teardown and then cede to a Dorsey type ...
No clue as I heard about it during Sashi's 1st year.

I honestly have no clue why Hue kept his yap closed.

It wasn't my plan bro. I'm just telling you what I know.

Not really. there are lots of things that never get out, and lots that do.
really ... i agree theres lots of things that never get out ... for good reason also ... not this time .. *LOL* ..
There’s no way Hue wouldn’t have used that in his morning show tour .. no way ...
Think about it GM ... not sure what happenend with your info on this one ... but sumptin is amiss ...
And u know it ...
Theres no reason for Hue not to have mentioned it ... NONE ...
With everything else that has transpired and how Hue has acted ... there is absolutely no reason to think this wouldn’t have come out .. NONE .. in this case ... the fact it hasn’t come out is all the proof I need that wasn’t the plan ..
Oh well ... water under the bridge ...
Thanks for sharing what u do bro .. i for one appreciate it .. i just wish i was in your inner circle and recieved pm updates on anything juicy ... ,,,
And u can call me what u want bro .. hiring Riley would be moronic from an experience standpoint on a few different levels regardless of how much faith u have in King John or how dumb u think i am for seeing it that way ...
Just remember my friend .. in my back pocket i have the “ THE THIEF DID IT” card .. *LOL* ...
Why is it that all of the really ridiculous YuoTube videos "next up" video is "Mike Homlgren, A Football Life"?

Not sure what i'm being lumped in with, but i'm not surprised.
Im with you tab, I've read the packer way and we both wanted Baker. We differed on Hue because you liked him at one point while after his first season I was very skeptical and after his second season he needed to go. Super star HC's don't go 0-16, ever.
If we choose Riley as HC i'll be ok with it and on board with the hire. My point is I just don't think it will happen. But you never know. If he wows Dorsey as Baker did we could be in for a real treat.
