Per the homepage ticker:

"Browns waive nine players to reach 75 limit."

Players include: K - Jesse Ainsworth, DB - Therrion Fontenot, & TE - Buck Ortega.

That's all they have listed so far. Stay tuned...

No real surprises there, IMO. I thought Mosley and Hill played well at WR, but I'm still not surprised they're gone.

Scrubs, scrubs and more scrubs....

The only one that I thought might have a shot was Hill as people raved about him during training camp.

Well so much for Orien Harris.

Didn't show much in the preseason if he even got in, I didn't notice him anyway.

Sounds like Travis Wilson has one last shot.

Hill played pretty well but he probably never had a shot. I'm not surprised any of these guys are gone.

Nothing earthshattering yet. They still have 1 more spot to decide before the deadline. Could it possibly be either Bently or Baxter to the PUP list?

Signing Steinbach - $49.5 million
Signing Lewis - $5 million
Drafting Joe Thomas and Brady Quinn - millions more

Here's everything

Browns slim roster, waive nine
Jeff Walcoff, Staff Writer
08.27.2007
The Browns began slimming down their roster Monday, waiving nine players and placing two others on the team's non-football injury list

Six players -- kicker Jesse Ainsworth, cornerback Therrian Fontenot, defensive lineman Orien Harris, receivers Mike Mason and Kendrick Mosley, and tight end Buck Ortega -- were waived. Three players -- receiver Efrem Hill, fullback J.R. Niklos, and safety Justin Sandy -- were waived-injured.

Head Coach Romeo Crennel said waiving players is always a difficult part of his job.

"That's not an easy thing to do because these young men, they put a lot into it," Crennel said. "They all have all their hopes, dreams, and aspirations to try to make a team and you have to call the guy in and sit him down and tell him he's not going to make it.

Punter Kyle Basler and defensive lineman Alvin Smith were the pair placed on the non-football injury-NFL Europa list.

The changes put the Browns' roster at 76 players, one short of the 75-player cap they must be at by Tuesday at 4 p.m., as mandated by the league. Crennel said the club would make an additional move sometime before then.

The Browns have until Saturday to trim their roster to the 53 they will take into the regular season.

None of those guys are O-linemen, maybe we're due to cut from that unit (Dorsey??), or maybe iit'd be Baxter or Bentley to PUP.

Im surprised/a lil disappointed that Ortega is gone.

I know we have a log jam at TE, but he seemed very very smart. I still remember watching him directing traffic in the huddle at the end of the games when he was in.

I mean, I'm not suggesting that he shouldve stayed all year (which i wouldnt oppose) but, he definitely shouldve lasted til saturday.

With KW2, Dinkins, Heiden and Krause (who has ties to Chud) we're deep at TE.
I'd bet Ortega catches on somewhere, though.

Can't believe they got rid of Fontenot and kept Perry.

I think Purcell and Steptoe gotta stay.

Also, Kris Griffin has been Dynamite I think. I think them 3 should stay around.

He can go in the IR. I guess we will all know for sure by next sunday. One things for sure, it's nice to have the problem of cutting guys that the fans hate to see go, instead of wishing we could cut more

I don't think there are any 'exemptions' for NFLe this year, which is why the cut down number went from 65 to 75 (to cover those exemptions). I read this sometime early (very early) last season, after the CBA was finally approved.

Well, that's a good list..

But, I can see Krause making the team...he could valuable in the red zone.

Mason Unck is way too valuable for Special Teams...he won't be cut.

Jerome Perry stinks to high heaven he NEEDS to be cut.

I would like Purcell to stay because of a family connection but I don't think he has earned it. Pittman I believe has played better of the two rookies and should get first consideration.

well, look where he came from

seriously though, i was surprised that he didn't do anything, the word was when we picked him up was that he was starting to put it all together and had some talent. what a shame, we need some run-stopping depth on the d-line

I would suppose you have an article or some kind of proof about the bad attitude ?

Or is this some crap you thought you would throw against the wall.
Wouldn't have anything to do with anti-Miami sentiment you may have ?

I'll wait for that proof.

It's Jereme Perry, Like "jeremy". But no matter.

I don't think McMillan will be cut based on the fact that he has played pretty well most of the time he has been in. IMO

I would add either Barclay or Harrison to that list because I don't believe there is any way we take 4 RB's into the season. My guess is it will be Barcaly because Cribbs is able to handle both punt and return duties.

What about Minter? Has this guy even seen the field once? He was highly touted, yet I've never heard anything about him except that he was injured last year. Is he the next Perkins?
