I think that any schedule we had was mostly shredded when we fired a HC and "his" OC . The tatters of what are left are in Dorsey's fist as he gets his new year's Resolution written out. Yesterday didn't help a great deal in the loss to the Texans, but it certainly clarified some issues about positions and depth and what is needed. I can't imagine much going forward being in place with this situation.

A vast majority of coaches defer if they win the toss. I guess they figure if they are behind at the half, it's nice to get the ball first.

Kinda my point. Coaches are trying to out smart themselves... it's similar to being on defense and calling a time out short of the 2 minute warning... another no no that happens frequently.

Here’s one thats just got me TOTTALY BAFFLED ...

Matt Nagy two weeks ago scored a TD in the 4th quarter to go up by 14 ... if he kicked the extra point they have to make one two pointer ... he opts to go for two ... upside is they have to make 2 two pointers to tie .. downside is they can just kick extra points ...

Risk/reward makes that one a no-BRAINER ... he does the dumb thing ...

Yesterday he scores a td with 3 seconds left or on the past play to pull within a point ... there on the road with a back up qb and the giants have scored 30 on them in regulation ...

On the road, back up QB, D not playing well .... how does the dude that went for two in the game two weeks ago not go for two in this situation ..

I dont get it at all ... makes zero sense to me ...

I think should always be determined by your team and the team your playing.

If its Brees or Mahommes etc. I want the ball first. I want to keep him on the sideline for as long as possible to start the game, and get him cold from warm ups. Also their Def is pathetic, so I want to enforce my will right away.

If its the Ravens, I want them to have the ball first, because I think my defense can stop their offense out the gate, and then we have the upper hand at halftime.

All just depends on the teams and scenarios for me. But some guys will defer no matter what, which is crazy to me.

I'd go as far as to say it has become the norm to defer. I can't remember the last time I saw someone elect to receive.

Whats sad, is I read the title of this thread, and thought "every team looks to see if we are on their schedule, they want a win where they can get it" lol

You learn to defer the toss as early as JR High School. If you are behind in the second half, you have an early opportunity to catch up. If you are ahead at the second half, you have momentum. Also, it's a better situation for the offense to let the coaches see what the defense is doing and game plan and make adjustments than to receive first and adjust on the fly.

There is a reason for everything and the only coaches I'd accuse of over thinking things would be the ones that didn't defer without a great reason.
