Romeo Crennel isn't dumb, he is a very good DC. Rookie QB's have a terrible record against the Pats and BB and who was his DC a lot of the time? RC. You don't think he learned a thing or two from him? Not to mention RC has some top shelf D players to work with. It was a learning experience for Baker and our Browns and the way Baker played the 2nd half it seems to me he already learned something. This team may have actually taken a step forward yesterday.

I have to say that overall I'm somewhat surprised by the comments in this thread today. There aren't as many melt downs as I expected. Not as many rants as I expected to see. Maybe not only is our team growing as they go, but maybe the fan base is too.
Well, I think Baker playing like Mr. Hyde in the 2nd half helped ease that a bit lol. I bet Rasta was all keyed up to make some post the 1st half. I was impressed with Bakers Moxy to hand in there through a tough half. Shows a lot of uh...guts.

Our team isn't worse than last week, or the week before that. Our players didn't suddenly take a step back. Our opponent was simply much better. It was simply a gauge of where we are and how far we have to go. I know some will scream bloody murder, but I think we were outcoached in this game. Not saying it's the reason, but it's certainly part of it.

I think baker’s quick release would help any line, but the fact that they kept baker clean the entire second half of a game where the score dictated a predominant passing game against one of the best pass rushing d lines in the nfl suggests to me that our o line is playing pretty well.

Nah. Unless you can coach out interceptions and coach in team speed.
Intoducing for The Cleveland Browns, Quarterback Deshawn "The Predator" Watson. He will also be the one to choose your next head coach.

I did see a big difference in talent and SPEED between the two teams. They were at a different level IMO.
Callaway? Yeah, he's not smart. But he might improve. I think he's had a decent rookie year. His 33 receptions are 2nd @WR as a group. *Landery 66 His 1st down % is 1.65% receptions/1DN; good for 2nd as a group. *Higgins 1.38% He is tied with Higgins, with 3 TDs' receptions each, for the most from that group. I agree. Callaway is having a pretty good rookie year, one year removed from football too. "The Browns only lost by 16, and it could've been even closer if either of Callaway's 70-plus-yard catches on the Browns' second drive of the third quarter amounted to anything other than a costly turnover.
The first one was a touchdown called back for a holding penalty on Greg Robinson. On the next play, Mayfield again found Callaway, who made an impressive contested catch and looked a sure bet to score. Instead, he veered into safety Justin Reid's path as he approached the end zone. Reid punched the ball out, and the Texans recovered it."
They will soon get this executed.

He points the finger directly at execution. We obviously executed much better in the second half. And it's very clear that he will do whatever it takes to learn from the experience. So while we point the finger at coaching, and speed, and talent, a rookie QB, and whatever, he points to execution, which is spot on. I'm not saying we don't need talent, or that a new HC won't help, or that being a rookie QB doesn't have its drawbacks, but nailing the execution will take us where we need to go.

Another thing to think, if Callaway hadn't just rant a 70+ yard sprint the play before, I doubt he gets tackled on that second pass. You can see about 10 yards to the GL fatigue kicked in.

Good point +1 I hadn't really thought of that aspect. I lost the game during that period, so I never had the chance to see the previous play that was called back, or the fumbled reception that followed. Still haven't seen the one that got called back, but I have been anticipating that the two will eventually develop that Znergy, for this to be what we will see (executed) going forward.

I think he was fatigued because I could not understand why he drifted back towards the pursuit. If he just kept going towwards the pylon, he would have scored in my opinion.

We got beat by a better team. Losing the turnover battle 4-0 against a good team gives you no chance. Baker showed me something in the 2nd half. The receivers are really stepping up. Very few drops. Our oline was very good. Way too many penalties. Our defense struggled. We are not that far away.
I just want a winner. We need players who can be part of the solution not part of the problem.

Collins will be gone IMO. We gotta draft a good LB ... or sign/trade for one This. And we need to shore up that LT and legit #1 WR. Good news is we have a competent GM and the cap space. I think leading the division and a playoff push could be expected barring the new coach doesn’t tear down the team.

and this, right here- is what has me loading my pants right now. Sooooo many reboots. So many mid-stream horse changes (Google: Tower of Power) If this core is decimated because of coaching changes, it will be the same insanity we've seen since 1999. Average life expectancy of CLE coaching staffs: 2.3 years. And guess what? We're still right on schedule. Groundhog day. Lather, rinse, repeat.

This is DIFFERENT Clem ... We have TALENT this time ... we’ve NEVER HAD IT BEFORE ... We’ve also made some GOD AWFUL GM hires .... this dudes alone hired two lawyers (Banner was a Moronic hire ... almost as stupid as Policy ... both had been in Front Offices for years but neither had a lick of FOOTBALL KNOWLEDGE .. i was the most hated man on the board for the first few years cause i knew what Pokicy did TO the 9ers and no one believed me .. HIM and CLARK destroyed the nners ... LITERALLY ... MY MESSAGE WASN;T WELL RECIEVED .. *L* ... sorry bout the caps ... Then the stupidest hire in the hitory of sports ... no sense going into that ... This is DIFFERENT just like everything else this year ... Not only do we have TALENT we have a REAL GM ... dudes gonna make mistakes .... folks think hes gonna be perfect are in for a shocker ... this business does not work this way ... I get your hesitation ... i know u wanna jump in the pool but are afraid cause to its always been so cold and shark infested whenever we’ve jumped in ... well thats why we have a wading pool on the Isle .... u get to dip your toes in and see ITS OK ... waters warm and theres NO SHARKS on there way ... only WAVES and WAVES of Buetiful dolphins ...

I don't see him hiring anyone that's going to come in and want an overhaul on the work he has done so far. Wouldn't make sense. Hes going to hire someone with similar philosophies and scheme to fit the players he has started to assemble. I have no doubt.

I've read in many posts above about Baker's second half being because Houston let up. This is not true. I watched the game closely and they never changed their philosophy. They never blitzed heavy in the first half and didn't in the second. What they did was watched the film and knew Baker was going to throw quick timing passes, and they dropped into the zones where he usually goes. Even players have been quoted about them knowing the routes they were using, and suggesting double moves to beat it on the sidelines.
Baker threw the same pass that was intercepted in the first half in the second half, the difference was he saw the LB and put it over his head. He was not dinking and dunking under a prevent defense, he was hitting vertical routes and producing. If the Callaway TD was not called back, they would have been back in the game with momentum. The catch and fumble proves my point. They went right back after them, but the fumble put the icing on the cake. The kid had 351 yards in the second half. You don't get that kind of yardage throwing underneath a prevent defense.

I love that post, Steub.
I started reading it, and almost from the very start it was like I knew what you were gonna say. Good football post.

I'm late to this party but..
The defense looked really slow the whole game, especially in the first half.. Defense started the game on their heels and never really recovered. Running or throwing, the Texans had their way with us.
Mayfield threw a few INTs, one was really ill advised throw, one was a heck of a play by the LB... I was glad though, even after throwing a couple picks, he didn't retreat into a shell. He kept throwing the ball down the field, kept putting it in tight places... I was really glad to see that.
The Texans beat us in every phase and Watt/Clowney played ok but were absolutely not on the list of reasons we lost... the OL played pretty well.
When Watkins and Hopkins were both at Clemson, I said I thought Hopkins would be better even though Watkins got all the hype.. I'll take a quick pat on the back for that... We need to add a guy like Hopkins in the offseason.
Lasly, this team has come a long way this year in learning what it takes to be great..
Learn to compete - check, came out of the box doing that. Learn to win - check, took a few weeks but we got it done. Learn to beat a team and close out a game - check, took a few more weeks but we've done that twice. Learn to bring that level every week - This is where we are in the progression to being a really good NFL team, bringing that same level of intensity and execution week in/week out. This week we didn't have it.

I think the speed of Houston and the depth of talent really threw us the first half. We were NOT used to that level of play.
The good news: we did respond.

It won't happen because Dorsey is building the team. He is in charge of hiring the search for the next coach. I think we ought to be clear on this. We do not know if he has 100% the final say.

No one knows the inner workings of that building, but from what I have seen since Dorsey got here, and with the whole debacle of he who shall not be named that is coaching a former team now - I think its pretty evident Dorsey has the lead.
