This, from late in the previous thread: I may be arguing over very very very small differences in what verbage is used ... in this case for some reason WORDS are IMPORTANT to me ...
U said he’s a complimentary guy ... to me thats “downgrading” him ... i may be “parsing” words here (i think thats what i mean anyhow .. *LOL* ... one thing i can always count on ... one of my fellow dawgs will help me with any grammatical mistakes i make ... no worries there .. *L*) ..
He’s more than a “complimentary” guy or a real good #2 ... he’s a PLAYMAKER ... there’s maybe 20 - 25 TRUE PLAYMAKERS at that position in the nfl ...
He’s not a #1 but hes also NOT JUST a
- high end two - complimentary guy - slot reciever
To me ... those “labels” demean his value ....
On a side note ...
All u menZas that think we overpaid ...
Please give me a list of all the WR’su believe OUR BETTER BLOCKERS than VICE GRIPS ..
Also would like the list of WR’s that have gotten not one but two 15 yard penalties accessed against the DB’s covering them simply for blocking them to hard and genearally getting under their skin? ...
OR DON’T THOSE THINGS COUNT cause they dont fill up the stat sheet ...
Not to mention ... in that room ... u don’t think each and everyone of those YOUNG PUPS in that room DON’T WANNA EMULATE THE RECORD SETTING PRO BOWL RECIEVER we have in the room ... u think maybe VICE GRIPS HAS HAD SOME INFLUENCE on how HARD THEY BLOCK and how much PRIDE they take in doing it ..
Whats Nick got 3 long runs now ... WONDER HOW HE FEELS ABOUT VICE GRIPS and his boys ...
Hmmm ... the vice gripettes ...*LOL* .. Oh, trust me- we both like Jarvis Landry. A lot. My use of the word 'complimentary' was no slight, at all. I simply meant it in the role-playing sense. Case in point: a team that has a T Owens, R Moss, L Fitzgerald, etc. has a true #1: a 'Feature Wideout.' The players who complete the ranks of the receiving corps are the 'complimentary players.' They can be anyone from a #3 who comes in when we run 5-wide formations to a T J Houshmendzadeh type pass catcher (I used him because we saw him twice per season during the Chad Johnson years, and and he always managed to hurt us almost as much as 85). I see Jarvis Landry as that go-to #2 who makes everything else work- running game, short-intermediate passing game, stick mover... He can be that role-player AND be a playmaker, as well. I think we've just found two different ways to pay Landry the same compliments. We like him the same way- and for the same reasons. ___________________ I may yet get on your cruise ship. Haven't purchased the tix yet, but I'm losing my skepticism, game by game. I've been liking a lot of what they've shown us these last few games. I was at the KC game, and saw things I liked, even tho we lost. It's just gotten better since then. The CIN game (first half) showed us that CLE can play with anyone. Now, they have to bring it every game- even in a loss. If they can do that, I'll be on board for the forseeable future. I'll tell you the truth, Diam: I was ready to drop this team altogether several times in the past 3-4 years. Getting Dorsey and seeing what he was able to do has kept me around. It's been fun seeing your optimism, even if I've been holding back. Hope this thing works out for you and me. Lord knows we deserve it, after all the awfulness since 99.

I first have to respond to arch, I tried to this morning but the thread had been locked.
I'll enlighten you arch: you tried to start bs by invoking Vers's name in a comment to Diam.
Sorry clemmy, I had to get that resolved.
Now, to more important things:
I love what I've seen this season, especially rookies like Ward, Bake and Chubb. I love some of the guys we brought in.... Randall, Landry (he's on schedule to catch 80-plus balls) and others.
I think we have the makings of a dominant D. I don't want to change the coaches, either.
We likely won't make the playoffs this year, but 2019?
We claim the North.

Sorry clemmy, I had to get that resolved. As host of a new thread, I'm OK if there is a little 'light housekeeping.' Truth be told, I re-upped this thread because I wanted continue my own talk with Diam. I wanted him to understand how my view of JL was so similar to his.

Thanks for taking the time to do that Clem ... After your last post to me in PP you taking the time to do that means a lot to me ... thanks ... I’m not sure why the words mean so much to me in this case ... usually i dont get hung up on things that really don’t matter ... but for some reason i can’t get over it .. *L* ... For the billionth time ... the ISLES FREE dawg .... we’ve all EARNED IT ... And theres NO RUSH dawg ... come at your own pace .. it does sound like your ready for the wading pool ... i’ll Personally come get u ... whip .. where u at .. *L* ... I started the thread cause we’ve been so bad and i could see everyone being very skeptical and afraid to feel good about this team ... the TALENT was there ... everyone was so snake bitten from the unrealistic expectations of past seasons ... I GOT IT ... But this was DIFFERENT ... and Clem was it wierd going from always being in the minority and called every negative name in the book for being a pessimist for over a decade to overnight being so overly optimistic some thought i went crazy .... *L* .... talk about a paradigm shift .. holy cow .. Its actually worked out way better than i thought .. man ... WERE LOADED DAWG ... Those draft picks ... WOW ... problem now is gonna be that the bar was set so high ... no way can they come close to keeping this up .. NO WAY ... IMPOSSIBLE ... If Bake is who he appears to be ... please sit down if your not all ready ... If Bake is who he appears to be and we hit in FA next year and fill a couple holes .. our window will not just be cracked it will be wide open ... especially if Williams and co stick ... i have NO CLUE what King John will do but if this team plays well and shows improvement this staff will have literally “played” its way into a serious option ... u can’t IGNORE IT ... I’m really EXCITED Clem ... for ALL OF US ... And dawg .. if the thief messes this up ... i’m checking out ... life’s to short to be so invested in something with such negative results for so so long ... it hasn’t been fun for YEARS ... 4 - 44 over a 3 year stretch with 3 wins being the high water mark ... it doesnt even sound possible ... Thanks again for taking the3 time to reply Clem .. lets hope u feel like chatting tonight ... *L* ...

I'm on board with both your takes on Landry. I think the only issue with Landry is fan's expectations ... dude is being paid #1 money and they expect him to go out and be like Green, Jones, Hopkins .... and he isn't like any of those guys - and it seems some think we overpaid for what we got because he's not like those guys. But we have not seen the best of Landry for the reasons you and Diam have discussed.
To me he's still worth everything we paid and we're only going to see more out of him once we get the true #1 who can take the top off and demand double teaming. You mentioned TJ Houshmendzadeh - and he certainly hurt us plenty. But reading that and dwelling on a comparison, I think I would classify Landry more as a better Heinz Ward who wasn't a true #1 either - he's feisty and simply good at his craft, he gets under the other teams skin a little, brings attitude. Landry might not be as physical as Ward was - but I think he's a better receiver overall.
The more things change the more they stay the same.

OVERPAID MY ASS ....
What a catch ...
Wait til next year ... obviously a true #1 will help ... but even w/o it ...
With VICE GRIPS and Bake having an entire off season to get that chemistry down ...
WATCH OUT ...
Ya’all heard Arians ... one of the GREATEST CATCHERS in the game today ...

He's fun to watch, but as long as he is covered by #1 $ #2 CBs, he'll struggle to get open. I don't think he's overpaid, worth the money, IMO, but he should be in the slot. Again, JMHO.

he had a good game today. I have noticed he and Baker have become more connected
"First down inside the 10. A score here will put us in the Super Bowl. Cooper is far to the left as Njoku settles into the slot. Moore is flanked out wide to the right. Chubb and Ford are split in the backfield as Watson takes the snap ... Here we go."

Jarvis balled today. He isn't a #1, but he is the perfect complement to that. Liking Landry and Callaway and Higgins. Perriman had some catches too. Maybe we add someone else to the mix.
I don't think our receivers are any of the problem right now.
They are playing good ball.
We just need a better mix between them and Chubb. Chubb wasn't utilized enough today. They can find creative ways to work him in, such as screens to him and such.
O has skills, just need some working on schemes.

The irony of your posts is that you continue to make my case for me...
We are paying him true #1 money, but you say hes not a true #1.
I mean this is the very definition of being overpaid. You realize that, right?

Yes we are paying him true #1 money and he is not a true #1 receiver. That is the cost of being a lousy franchise for the last 10+ years. We have to overpay to get quality people here. I like the signing and think he is worth it for where this team is and what we need to start moving in a positive direction.

You can never have too many good players.
Landry is a good player.
We can worry about his contract if or when it ever becomes an issue.
What else is there to say?
People are arguing over something so inconsequential just to try and win an argument.
Device, I think you've achieved legendary status on here for your take on Baker prior to the draft. I put you up there with Spergyn for calling Lebron would come back home literally like the day he left for Miami. But you're ruining it with this fascination on proving some dumb point on Landry. Let it go man.
LOL - The Rish will be upset with this news as well. KS just doesn't prioritize winning...

Landry's value will be sky high when he isn't the only WR that other teams worry about.
We don't need Odell Beckham Jr out there with him, we just need a guy or two that teams won't take for granted.
Landry is what I was hoping that we would get with Joe Jeruvicious.

Thanks for taking the time to do that Clem ... After your last post to me in PP you taking the time to do that means a lot to me ... thanks ... thumbsup My apology to you for my awful behavior is long overdue. After doing the same as you (bailing from daily posting in The Sewer), I realized how many of my values I'd set aside to simply win arguments, crush opponents, and troll people whose political leanings were different than mine. I've been online for 20+ years, and have never treated a fellow community member the way I treated you... and for that, you have my sincere apologies. I was raised better, and you deserved better. I thought about sending you this in a PM, but decided against it. I said all those things in the public domain, so it's only right and proper that I offer my mea culpas in front of the same people who watched me act like such an ass. You are free to regard this apology in any way you see fit; if you wish to spit upon it, I'd understand and accept it as a justified response. I hope that you'll take this post as an official acknowledgement that I dropped the ball My Parents handed off to me. I abandoned long-held family standards because of something as stupid as politics. I hope we can return to good football talk. After all, that is what brought us to the same address in the first place. best, Clem

Btw, I barely mentioned Landry in my first post, but as I've stated previously, IMO Landry has been valuable to this team, is a leader, blocks with attitude. I look forward to his contributions next week against Carolina, and next season, too.

Jarvis Landry won me over when I saw this scene in HBO's 'Hard Knocks':
*go to YouTube. Type in "Jarvis Landry calls out his team mates*
I chose to NOT embed or link this vid because it (colossally) fails the language standards that are in place at this website, but it exemplifies what leadership is all about. This was still preseason, and already, Landry was calling attention to the lax standards that 76 Groza was famous for.
That's the kind of leadership that changes a losing culture... one 'man-up' at a time.
There has been talk by some that he's overpaid for his on field role/production. That makes for some good message board talk, but really only deals with the subject on a 'EA Sports/Madden GM'-type superficial level. It's more than a simple 'money for production' formula.
He's also being paid for his years of experience. He's also being paid to set a tone- on the practice field, in the film room, and on Sundays in the Fall. He's also being paid to set an example. He's also being paid to mentor those younger than he.
Others can claim that he's overpaid for the role he's assumed, but that only measures plays, down & distance. Value is calculated on more levels than simple stats. I'm glad he's here, at whatever price was paid for his services. It's not like he's exactly half-assing it for a cheap payday.

You said it perfectly Clem. Very nice post.
You can't fix stupid but you can destroy ignorance. When you destroy ignorance you remove the justifications for evil. If you want to destroy evil then educate our people. Hate is a tool of the stupid to deal with what they can't understand.

I accept your apology Mr.Clem ... i don’t believe u owed me one but i will accept it out of respect for U ... I should actually thank u for making it .. and i mean that dawg ... i believe i never posted in that forum again for a long longtime after that post ... and im a completely different poster on the rare rare occasions i decide to post ...
U know what ... THANK U for making that post ... and i mean that ... that post WOKE ME UP ...
I started to reply in kind .,,, as i was typing the words ... i knew they weren’t true ... but i believed them ... i literally moved my ahead away from the computer in disbelief at the fact i believed what i was typing to be true ... 15 years or so of reading every word u posted on here told me what i was typing could NOT BE TRUE ... no way is that the dude i got to know over the years .... NO WAY ...
It made me think Clem .... THANK U FOR THAT .... and then i was done ... i’d Actually suspended myself form that cess pool many times and could still never behave .... your post cured me of that cause i knew the things i was about to say weren’t true and i ALLOWED myself to get so lost in that cess pool i honestly believed what i was typing ...
i sure as all heck knew i was nothing close to the person u thought/think i am ... and i found it hard to believe that u could be this horrible person i was about to tell u that u were ...
I also knew that one day we’d get here ... cause its who u are .... total class and a great guy that got caught up in something that for some reason takes good people with good intentions and turns them into people there friends would not recognize ...
I’m sorry for the things i’ve said to u also ... i’ve apologized to some in public and some in private ... i’ve Apologized to u in both previously ... *L* ... thats not funny .. its actually sad ..
I am so ashamed of how i behaved in there .. much like u ... my dad would be disgusted wth me ... i still see that look he’d give me ... and it would be well deserved in this case ..
I’m very happy to see you’ve decided to stick around and hopefully enjoy this place again ... i was very bummed when u were going to leave all together ... i was sad u were going to go to the game and had no desire to visit any dawgs even the ones that have become your friends over the years ... i understood ... but it shouldn’t be that way ...
U and I have a lot of shared history ... i would love to chat with u about some of the issues we disagree on ... were about the same age i believe ... i would especially love to chat with u about race relations and how far we’ve come even though we still have a long butt way to go ...
If your interested ... shoot me a PM ... no desire to have that discussion in public ... if u decide to do it ... just be warned of one thing ... i will ask a TON OF QUESTIONS ....
Thanks again Clem ... for reaching out here and being the stand up class guy your dad would hopefully be proud of at the way u stood up and handled it after your mis steps along the way ...
And dawg ... i’m Telling u .... THIS IS DIFFERENT ....
WAY WAY WAY DIFFERENT .... in a good way for a change ... guess i need to qualify that with our history .... *LOL* ...

I finally found a useful purpose forthe like button .. u find out who else is clueless about a situation w/o them making a post ... *L* .... Lets take a looksie at those pesky little details as opposed to just making dumb general statements .... as we go through this ... i’m Gonna make a point to point out WHEN EACH DEAL WAS SIGNED ... thats a hint for u and your two buddies ... ... OK ... here’s a list of the top 10 WR’s based off yearly average ... heres the link ... https://overthecap.com/position/wide-receiver/1. OBJ ... yup ... he’s a #1 ... newest signing ... THIS OFF SEASON if not during the regular season ... 2. AB ... yup ... true #1 ... LAST OFF season .. made him the #1 paid by a hefty margin when he signed it .. 3.. Mike Evans ... i dont think so .. but i’m Sure u do so I ain’t gonna debate it ... 2nd most recent signing i believe ... was THIS OFF SEASON ... 4. Hop ... best on football IMO today ... LAST OFF SEASON ... may have made him the #1 paid WR at the time .. can’t remember who signed first ... him or AB ... So far ... Evans don’t belong that high but pretty spot on ... NOTICE THE SIGNING DATES there menZas ... 5. Brandin Cooks ... NOPE .. not a #1 in any sense of the word ... PLAYMAKER that I’d love to have ... a true #1 .... NOT A CHANCE .. SIGNED THIS OFF SEASON after a trade ... just like vice grips ... 6. Sammy Watkins ... ... ... nuff said ... SIGNED THIS OFF SEASON ... 7. VICE GRIPS .... THIS OFF SEASON ... at the time of the signing .. he was # 3 or 4 on this list ... i said then he’d be down 3 or 4 spots by the end of the season ... LOOKIE LOOKIE LOOKIE .. by the end of the season ... he may fall another spot ... 8. AJ Green ... true #1 ... signed during the 2015 season .. at the time .. made him one of if not the highest paid WR’s in football ... he’s a FA either this or next off season ... he will move back up the list even with this injury ... 9. Devante Adams ... not a true #1 ... LOVE him .. but hes not a true #1 ... love to see what Vice Grips could do in that O ... SIGNED In Dec of 17 ... so he was the FIRST DOMINO to fall this off season ... since then he’s fallen 4 or 5 spots ... IN LESS THAN 12 MONTHS ... U seing the pattern here menZa? .... am i really proving your point ... am i really ... 10 Stefan Diggs ... no way a true #1 .. LOVE him .. hes a PLAYMAKER but not a #1 .... Guess when he was signed ... go ahead ... even u can get it ... He was SUPRISE SUPRISE SIGNED THIS OFF SEASON ... Next is Julio ... go ahead and guess where he falls in the WHEN DID THEY SIGN GAME ... i dont even know yet ... but i’m Guessing it was at least two years ago based off the rest of the list .. lets go see .... This ones tricky .. they “revised” his contract this year ... appearantly he wasn’t happy at where he was on the pay scale on the contract he SIGNED IN 2015 .... gee .. what a shocker ... a bunch of dudes that couldnt carry his jocks passed him and he missed all off season activities and wasnt sure if he was gonna report ... U guys notice the pattern here ... u still think i made tour point menZa ... ...

At least you're aware of what it is you're throwing.
Intoducing for The Cleveland Browns, Quarterback Deshawn "The Predator" Watson. He will also be the one to choose your next head coach.

Jarvis is the man. Great receiver and none of the off the field garbage our last star receiver gave us.

Sloppy with the ball. That fumble shouldn't have happened. But he had an awesome game.

I should not have done that ... it was 100% uncalled for ... even if it is true ... .. Sorry ... classless move on my part ... got caught up in the heat of the moment .. thats no excuse for classless behavior ... He really peed me off with that fumble .. UNACCEPTABLE ... Sloppy, lazy ... throw in whatever adjective u want .. negative ones on that play ... Still worth the money ..

I really liked that wrinkle to the offense today. IMO, that can be useful ... and use counters off of it
"First down inside the 10. A score here will put us in the Super Bowl. Cooper is far to the left as Njoku settles into the slot. Moore is flanked out wide to the right. Chubb and Ford are split in the backfield as Watson takes the snap ... Here we go."
