I have my computer hooked up to my 27" TV....was doing okay until I restarted it this morning. Now the screen resolution seems to be different...I can't change the settings from 640x480 with 32 bit colors.
My internet browswer is too big to fit on the screen and there's a LOT of scrolling involved to read the boards.
Any ideas?

You are like some kind of technology guru aren't you. It seems like not a week goes by where you don't post something about some contraption that you have put together, whether its a computer or a nintendo DS with super-DS powers.

Ha! It's not every week. More like every couple of months. I'm just trying to get into the 21st century. Thing is, I don't know how to really use any of it.

If the option to change the resolution isn't there, then it's most likely a driver issue, try to upgrade the video card drivers, and then also check what settings it has for the monitor, if your using a TV it may not have had a default set of drivers available, and you may need to search the internet to find a set.

My brownser at my work computer is weird when I go into this site (and only this site)... for whatever reason, things get stretched in some threads and I have to mess around, pulling the screen back and forth cuz I can see the username on a post, but not the actual text of the post.

Supposed to be a plug and play device. I checked and it says no driver updates are needed.

Go to the manufacturer's website and download the latest driver anyway. They can get buggy after a while.

I plugged in my old monitor to see what happens...and it's the same thing. It seems that the banners stretch my screen out.
Off to download drivers...

Dunno what I did, but I downloaded something and restarted...back to normal on the 15". Now I'm wondering if my text has always been this SMALL after using the TV for two days. Yikes.

Great. How's it working on the TV?
Whenever I have a problem with the printer, scanner, camera, PDA phone, video or sound cards, the first thing I do is download the latest drivers. Even if there's nothing new, just re-installing them fixes most of the problems.

Is there a setting I should change to let the computer know we are using a TV instead of monitor?

If its hooked up via DVI, HDMI, or VGA the computer will see it as a monitor and should let you select the proper resolution.

It's hooked up via VGA, but it didn't ask for any settings.

Just right-click your desktop and choose "Properties". Go to the "Settings" tab and if your computer sees it as a monitor, you will be able to slide the slider all the way to the right, setting it to your TV's highest resolution. That's assuming this is a LCD. I can't imagine you having any problems, considering you just updated your drivers.

The computer has always been set to the highest resolution (1024x768)...even on my old 15" LCD monitor. Not sure what happened to make it change last night. Of course, I still haven't restarted my system with the tv hooked up yet. And, I don't know if I updated my drivers or not. I updated SOMETHING, but the site was very confusing.

Do you know who makes your video card/chip? I'm guessing Intel since both ATI's and Nvidia's sites are fairly self-explanatory. This sounds certainly like a driver issue so all I can really say is make sure you're updating with the proper drivers and give the TV another shot.

Okay, is that the Intel Pentium 4 processor 2.0GHz spec? I went to Gateway to update, but as I said, it was rather confusing.

For the video card, try this: start>programs>accessories>system info
Once in system info, choose components on the left hand side, and then display. On the right side, the lines name, adapter type and adapter description will give you the info you need about your video card.
On another note, if you reboot and have display problems to the point of not being able to see anything, reboot and when it starts booting, hit the f8 key. This takes you to a list of advanced startup modes. Choose VGA mode and hit enter. This should allow you to boot up with a basic video driver so you can see the screen.

Adapter Type: Intel 82845G/GL chip, Intel Corp Compatible
Adapter Desc: Intel 82845G/GL Graphics Controller
And...let me restart to see if this is even an issue any longer...

On restart, it did it again. It gives me a 13" square desktop in the middle of the 27"tv and my internet wants to run at the size it was just running in...which is much larger.

Change the resolution to something else... lower colors for instance... then try to change it back to what you want... sounds stupid but it works sometimes...

Not the res... the colors... from 32 bit or whatever you have to something lower... I've seen resolutions be stuck like yours but once you change the colors everything magically starts working again... makes no sense but does it...

The next easiest thing to do after that is uninstall the video card and reboot... reinstall it.

http://downloadcenter.intel.com/filter_r...mp;submit=Go%21Download and run the top file, you'll need to restart afterwards. Then try and raise the resolution again. It seems the driver hasn't been updated for a few years but I'd be willing to bet that its newer than the one installed now.

Thanks, VG. I did all of that and it's still the same. I did notice that in my Graphics controller properties the only listings under accelerator are 640x480. Interesting, though, that the max screen size changed after updating the drivers. Thanks again...might just be time for a new video card. Another note...found this little gem...it's a known problem: http://support.intel.com/support/graphics/intel845g/sb/cs-009085.htm

Did a little websearch and found several people using it a 27" (some 32") Ovelia TVs for monitors. Most are using the DVI input, which chances are your onboard video does not have that output, but a couple said they also tried the VGA input and it all worked fine.
It's native resolution should be 1280x720x60hz
So I'm not sure what to tell you now, it should work fine.
Did you mention you have a laptop also? If it has a VGA output, try it on the TV and see what it displays.

We are using the VGA output.
Here's the thing....if I have the monitor running and just unhook the VGA from it and plug it into the TV, it shows up as it should...normally. It's when I restart the computer that things get funky and it won't let me change resolution or color values.
