I was suspended today from the other Browns board for quote unquote "name calling",which is suspect at best.A Steeler fan no less had a comment regarding Tim Couch using steroids and called him not the sharpest tool in the drawer.Well,I responded with calling him "genius" and reminding him he no longer played for the Browns and it was he that wasn't the sharpest tool.I then got an e-mail by the mods over there telling me I was "name calling".I thought it was a joke and still do.I could see using profanity,but this? I've heard of zero tolorance,but this goes above and beyond that.I don't post over there like I used to,but after this I more than likely won't go back.Hell,rival fans get away with a lot more.
Has there been anybody out there who has experienced the same thing as I did? Was this a rediculous suspension or not? I'd like to hear from you.

I've actually been in this situation on this board. Won't go into details, but I got a 2 week suspension for calling someone a "moron". Ok, I probably deserved that suspension, but I've seen alot worse go on here that goes un noticed. Then, while I was banned (which by the way, I couldn't even get to the site to read because I have my password saved, so whenever I tried to open up the site just to read it would tell me I was banned), I got another e-mail from the refs, being banned for 30 days for "ghosting". Which, by the way, I didn't do. But, it's over now, I don't care. But, I figured the 2nd ban fit into your topic of "stupid bans".

For what it's worth, that would be a suspension over here as well.
The reason is that you're not using "genius" as a statement of fact, but as a derogatory, slandering term. Steeler fan, Browns fan... it makes no damn difference, even in The Shack. Now, things in the Shack are typically a little more lax, and often a play on someones name is overlooked (see WorldChamps being called 'Chumps')... but the "genius" thing would likely still get you a private message from a Ref.
It may sound silly because who the hell ever heard of the word "genius" being a bad name? Well, it isn't always the word, but how it is being used.
The Refs have to draw the line somewhere and beyond a shadow of a doubt, the best place to draw that line is where you err on the side of caution & conservatism.
The moment some things slide, then people will push the lines and then will be asking why person A can do this but I can't and in short... it just isn't worth the freaking headaches that come with that type of appeasement.

Honestly, if a person gets his panties in a bunch from being called a genius even in this usage I'd say ban the whiner not the person who called him a genius. But that's just me, I suppose.
But I understand why most of the rules are here and how they are enforced.

As I'm sure you are well aware the Refs here have nothing to do with the decision to change the board or any upgrades to the board. We never promised you anything, we simply passed along things that were told to us. Your complaints are falling on deaf ears here and you know that. Quit trying to get attention. I'm well aware that you do that here and I've heard complaints about you from Dawgtalkers posters and administrators. I will not put up with you here. ------------ And the second one: ------------ You were giving feedback about something the moderators have NO control over and you know it. You are just looking for attention and we know it, you have a history on two boards. I'm not going to go on and on with you about this, AGAIN, this is a very busy time for us. I think a suspension may have been excessive at this point. A PM warning should have sufficed unless you have "a history of" name calling.

That was my thought... if you have a history of being warned I could see it... but for a first offense to call somebody a "genius" and get suspended... that sounds a bit harsh...

When I first started posting on the old Dawg Talk in March 2004 I referred to a Ravens fan as a Baltimoron ( I got that word from reading these boards haha) and was banned for a couple of days. When I got reinstated, I asked the refs why I was banned when others did the same thing and never got banned. I never did get a straight answer.  As for the "official" message board, I havne't been there since last fall. Don't care about it.

No, Michelle and I post from the same house. They just use the IP as a tool to sleuth out the ghosts. Most of the ghosts are incredibly obvious, you can spot them without any knowledge half the time.

Why would anyone want to use more than one account. Would they log on both at the same time to try to make a point with one account and then try to validate it with another account? Or would they do it just to mess with people.
