Good story and a nice gesture by Baker.

I will say so he has been impressive from the standpoint of how he has handled questions from the media etc.

He came here with a great reputation as a team leader.

I saw the film clip of him and the fan who died from cancer. It was another gesture that was kind and sincere.

I am pulling for him even though I wanted Darnold.

I like this reply. Pretty smooth.

I won't make a new post, but you addressed me later about the hyperbole and if I really knew the story of Baker at TT.

I know more than you think I do. I know that he and his father alienated the coaching staff w/their arrogance and demands. It wasn't as simple as just KK dumping him.

Hmmm. Guns up? I suspect so.

Methinks a real Browns fan would be inclined to consider the context of that ridiculous narrative. After all:

1) He is our first round over-all pick, is he not?

2) The very nature of walking on, especially when you have offers to play elsewhere, guts this narrative of any potency. Walking on is the antithesis of entitlement.

3) Does this description of Baker's character jibe at all with what you've observed of his character after having come in as the #1 over-all selection?

So I ask you, if he doesn't come in as an entitled demander, under these circumstances, how likely is it REALLY that your little Red-Raider-disseminated piece of propaganda holds any weight?

I am pretty sure I'm going to have a really tough time interacting with folks trying to jump on the Browns bandwagon whenever they start picking up some momentum. I mean, I think it's great that we're apparently good enough to start getting bandwagon fans.

That said, who am I to question why someone is a fan or not. None of my business, and fandom is a tricky thing sometimes.

There is no level of sucking we haven't seen; in fact, I'm pretty sure we hold the patents on a few levels of sucking NOBODY had seen until the past few years.

To be honest, I suspect the Browns haven't had a huge influx of "bandwagon fans" since the mid-60s.

Cleveland really became the laughingstock city of the U.S. about then.

Even the Kosar years. Those lost seasons to Denver.

This is what it's all about and why little Bakers are going to be running all over Cleveland in about 5 years or so.

Go Browns!

Are you all in on the Browns? Or will you, for example, still kind of root for the Steelers in the playoffs, assuming they make it and the Browns don't?

It's a real question. I wouldn't blame you for still pulling for the team you rooted for going on 40 years. I just wonder how that all works.

This isn't a dig at OP, but I CAN'T WAIT to see a lack of steeler fans in the NEO area in a few years, because they all have Mayfield 6 jerseys on. They'll come up with some god-awful excuse about why they don't root for them anymore, because their great uncle from their ex-wife's side passed away and that was the only reason they were rooting for the steelers. Go away.

Sorry, but i hate the steeler fans who were born in the NEO area. The weakest of the weak. They all have 19 Kosar jerseys in their attics. All of them. Go away.

I wish I could be a bandwagon fan too. It would save so much heartbreak.

So many of my Cleveland friends in my age group rooted for the Steelers or Patriots the last 10+ years, now are coming back to Browns.

Can you not see that it's kind of insulting?

Imagine if you were building a house. Your friend kept telling you how stupid it was to build a house when you could just rent a nice apartment. for 10 years you put down brick after brick until the house is done. Then the day you finish it your friend comes by and asks if he can move in. No. Get out of my house.

I mean hey, you're probably a good person at heart and I wish you the best, but I don't see how you're actually being a Browns fan.

Also, may I ask why you're a Steelers fan in Austin, TX in the first place?

why should they get to root for the Steelers while they're good then the Browns when good? It just doesn't compute. Maybe i'm wrong but I dont' get it.

In this OP's case, I can see them being a Mayfield fan, but that's different than a Browns fan.

For example, I wanted us to draft Mahomes, but we didn't. Now I kinda root for the Chiefs because of him, but if they ever played the Browns I still root Browns all the way.

If they're just gonna leave again when Baker leaves that's not a Browns fan, that's a Mayfield fan, which is FINE, just different.

Hey T - I thought of you today when a caller to a local sports talk show said he was from Tulsa and that he, his wife, and their kids were all now Browns fans. I thought it was kind of cool. The more, the merrier. Back before I was old enough to pay attention, the Browns were the NY Yankees of the NFL - we kicked ass and took names. I want it to be that way again in my lifetime: Cleveland Browns, the real America's Team.

It's really taking off here Dave. They have been on TV now, 8 straight weeks. They are getting the kind of exposure here that's always been reserved for Dallas and Kansas City. I'm loving it. The team I've loved all my life is becoming trendy in my part of the country.

Awesome! It hasn't quite spread here to Los Angeles yet (there are 2 really good teams here right now after all), but when I wear my Browns gear out around town people will sometimes say "hey, that Baker is pretty good!".

No. I think we should build a wall to keep them out, and the steelers will pay for it!

As in people naming their newborns after Baker? Or as in Baker doing his Antonio Cromartie imitation?

I disagree.
They really should have a label, though I'd choose something slightly less pejorative than 'bandwagoners.'

I'd label them as "Noobz."

A label that's honest, descriptive- and (relatively) non-judgmental. At the bar, they'll have to earn their 'tribe bonding' opportunities.
They'll also have to keep a respectful silence when the conversation turns to stories with names like Leigh Bodden, Charlie Frye, and Kellen 'Solja' Winslow. Back when people laughed.

Those stories are for us.

"Quiet, Noob- this is when pups learn what's expected of them if they root for this team/run with this pack."

I think that approach is reasonable. I really do.

Welcome them in, but hold them to standards. We did the hard work of supporting this team when everyone else was everywhere else. We should be allowed to maintain our own Ring Of Honor within the new, expanding fan base. Designations are in order here, imho.

If you ask me, I'd really enjoy slapping 5's with someone wearing a Reuben Droughns 28 jersey. I'd know for sure that (s)he was 'one of us.'

Like when I was a rookie cop. I was 42 when I came on the job, but I was still a rookie. Sitting around with a couple vets and they were telling stories. I'd had an experience similar to one of their stories, and started to speak, and was promptly told they don't care where I've been or what I've done before, now is time to listen and learn.

I’m not religious, but I’ve heard,

Give me your weak, give me your poor. Yes that is a shot at republicans. Traditionally people from the north are more accepting. Meaning, we will accept you, as long as you didnt vote for trump.

Cleveland builds bridges, not walls. Walls are more of a SW PA, Appalachian ideology, based on fear. So you understand our trepidation

It’s not that we view Steeler fans as Neanderthals, it’s just their ideologies are antiquated, a little behind the times. Like slavery, segregation and anthropogenic climate change.

I suppose if I had to pick a team I'd like to win it, it would be the Steelers. Under that scenario. But it's very ho-hum, to me. The Browns are the only team I really want to win now.

It seems weird to me that people care what team people root for or why. I thought one dude liked that team up north and he acted like I insulted him. LOL.....it wasn't an insult. People can root for whomever they like in my eyes.
