I'm predicting at least a trick play and maybe a wildcat package.
Nothing to substantiate my hunch at all, but if I were going to try to throw a monkey-wrench in the works against a decent defense, it's what I would do.
If I was to guess it’s to give our defense a qb look similar to Lamar in practice
Tomorrow is the most important thing in life. Comes into us at midnight very clean. It's perfect when it arrives and it puts itself in our hands. It hopes we've learned something from yesterday. -John Wayne
Do you think he was brought in to mimic Lamar in practice?
I'm sure he was used for that. They even got the same name on the back of the jersey. But they wouldn't have to activate him for that. Activating him is a signal that they want him as an option during the game.
I really got nothing to base this on but a hunch, but If I were scheming against that defense I want them running sideline to sideline with a heavy dose of Chubb up the middle and quick passes from Baker.
I love me some throwback option passes. They can especially hurt a disciplined team that is overeager like the Ratty defense. I like ground pounding and sweeping. Do not just squat and wait on them.
Serve up that HAM: Hostile, Agile, Mobile. Bang their receivers hard on the line. Better have your heads on right on defense.

I think a move like this shows that the FO and coaches are working closely and constantly together to get an edge. A refreshing change and another tick to retain the status quo for me.
Sorry, but I don't think he will be. He filled a roster spot, but they will have Landry, Higgins, Perriman, and Callaway ..... and possibly Ratley, who was active last week all being active.

On another thread I said if I was making the choices, my 3rd team guy would have legs. I think you have a better shot with a 3rd teamer who can run over one who sits in the pocket "and gets sacked".
Maybe we are good with Baker and Stanton as our #1 and #2 QBs for a while.
Maybe we aren't looking for a QB to develop as a back-up. When Stanton is done, there are always FA vets out there who you can sign.
I like the move.
If everybody had like minds, we would never learn.
Is there a benefit to signing a guy to the regular roster at the end of the season .. in terms of contracually going into tnext year?
"First down inside the 10. A score here will put us in the Super Bowl. Cooper is far to the left as Njoku settles into the slot. Moore is flanked out wide to the right. Chubb and Ford are split in the backfield as Watson takes the snap ... Here we go."
I doubt he even sniffs the field, or even active on game day. I think Dorsey is thinking the potential on a long-term basis.
As far as mimicking Jackson in practice, we should have brought him in earlier. One day of practice isn't gonna do a whole lot to help the defense prepare.
If we wanted to do a trick play or wildcat type package, we could just use Taylor.
It's not a bad idea, actually. It's probably something we could have done occasionally throughout the season, but there was obviously some turmoil on offense, and maybe they wanted Mayfield to establish himself.
good point Haus. I wonder if we'll see any cool wrinkles this game. We're good for a few a game

He's been practicing with the team. He's been on our practice squad for a quite a while. They are putting him on thew active roster now.
Perhaps Dorsey is keeping another team from signing him, but I have my doubts that would be as a back-up QB. I don't even think he's a great WR prospect. I do think he could eventually be that slash type player that you plug in every now and then to give defenses something to think about.
I agree w/Vers. Maybe you are the first to spot it

All about how dangerous the Ravens are with run game and defense.
Great
Could be.
Or it could be the media is on target and the fans are overestimating the Browns ability to counter the Ravens run game and defense, with the Browns' own run game and defense, and the Browns passing game.
Quarterback, vs Quarterback, Push/tie, with the edge to Lamar Jackson because of his running abilities
or Baker is the better QB, on the day if he can still complete passes vs the tough Ravens d.
RB, vs RB, Advantage Baltimore with their more intact O-line and commitment to run from start to finish, and perceived "pourous vs the run" Browns D.
or, Advantage Browns because, ?, somehow the Browns break big runs vs a Ravens D that usually stops that, and maybe Chubb, and Duke, and others, get the job done.
Mayfield has been hesitant to take off and run, in recent weeks.
---
Wr, vs Wr, Advantage Baltimore, everybody in the media knows Baltimore, and nobody follows the Browns, therefore it's a given the Browns Wr's must suck and Baltimores' must be good.
OR!, Higgans, Landry, Callaway, Njoku, Perriman, and more, Browns fans have actually seen the team play and know better.
Defense vs. Defense.
Advantage Ravens, they know how to play in games that matter and the Browns are a bunch of an 0-31 team that nobody's followed nationally, so they must be the same old
Or! The Browns defense plays like the first 5 minutes and last 5 minutes of the Broncos game, and as they did in the 2nd halves of several games earlier this year to keep the Browns offense in the game, despite needing multiple tries to get a drive going. and the Browns D actually plays well enough to win.
I don't blame the media for not respecting the Browns going in to this game,
Maybe the game works out and the Browns get more respect coming out of this game if they win. (nationally anyway).
Can Deshaun Watson play better for the Browns, than Baker Mayfield would have? ... Now the Games count.
We would have Duke or Landry for the Wildcat...if really a need and as long as he secretly practiced at it. We would alway have Peppers for the Wildcat also. Even Calloway.
jmho but no need really not with our current running game. Shame we couldn't use it much although I though we should have.
Defense wins championships. Watson play your butt off! Go Browns! CHRIST HAS RISEN! GM Strong! & Stay safe everyone!
