We always speculate on who we think will make the roster. What I would like to know is who you want to see make the cut and why. Is there something you see in a player that maybe hasn't shown up on the field? Is it because you just like a guy? Or is it because you think a guy has earned a spot though hard work. There isn't a need to list all 53 people if you don't feel like it. You can list just people you feel that are on the bubble. Here's mine. QB...3. in order Frye Quinn Dorsey. I see no reason to keep Anderson since Quinn will be starting soon and Frye will be our #2. Dorsey and Quinn have a good relationship and I think Dorsey will be good for Quinn. RB...3 Lewis Harrison Barclay This won't happen but I really like Barclay. I think he is a tough little kid and can get yards inside despite his size. Harrison is starting to prove to me that he can be a back who can spell Lewis. TE...3 Winslow Krause Heiden I love Krause's ability to catch the ball I would love to see him as our number 2. WR...6 Bray JJ Wilson Cribbs Sanders...New face, local kid Carter...Why? I don't know. Our reciever stink. We don't have quality so we might as well have quanity. Oline....9 Thomas Steinbach Fraley McKinney Shaffer Friedman Sowells Butler Matua..Love his hair. I want Tuck too but I'm cheating because he doesn't count the first 4 weeks. FB...2 Vickers Ali Dline...8 Roye Washington R. Smith S. Smith Fraiser Baba...I love his name. He's young and I think getting better. Purcell...Family connection. I think he has looked pretty good against the run, something we need. Pittman...He has a mean streak. Gotta love that. Safeties...4 Jones Pool Hamilton LeSueur...I don't like the way Adams tackles and would love for this kid to get a shot. LB...8 Wimbley DQ Williams Peek Davis Thompson Griffin C. Smith The bottom two are on my list because I love their hustle and think they both possess the abilities needed to make plays. CB...5 Bodden E. Wright Holly McDonald Minter...Kid hasn't shown much on the field yet but I think he can be a good one for us. Special Teams...2 Z Dawson

I could live with that 53... Too bad that we can't carry an extra RB,,, because Wright showed me what he could do last night,,, Oh well, It's getting harder to cut people because the ones we are cutting are way better than the ones we cut two years ago... Doesn't that feel good

two positions are going to be hard when it comes to who is going to be the backup:
1) RB... Wright... Harrison... Barclay... tough decision..
2) LB... there is the obvious.. but who is at the bottom of the depth chart? Unck? Smith? Griffin?

You're not keeping a long snapper???
QB- Frye- Quinn- Dorsey (3) RB- Lewis- Wright- Harrison (3) FB- Vickers (1) WR- Edwards- Jurvicius- Cribbs- Carter- Wilson (5) TE- Winslow- Heiden- Krause- Dinkins (4) OL- Thomas- Steinbach- Fraley- McKinney- Shaffer- Friedman- Butler- Sowells- Matua (9) DL- R. Smith- Washington- Roye- S.Smith- Fraser- Parker- Pittman (7) LB- McGinest- Peek- Wimbley- Davis- Williams- Jackson- Unck- Thompson (8) CB- Bodden- E. Wright- Holly- K. Wright- Minter- McDonald (6) S- Pool- Jones- Hamilton- Baxter (4) ST- Pontbriand- Dawson- Zastudil (3)
Some have speculated that Baxter belonged at safety anyway, and I believe McDonald had some experience there in college, so I'm okay with carrying three true safeties and having those two in the background.
*Edit*- I can't believe I forgot Chaun Thompson with the preseason he had... My bad.

It wouldn't surprise me to see us carry 5 WR and 4 RB.
The bottom of the roster is going to be made up of developmental and/or special teams types. Barclay would definitely fit the special teams part of the equation .... especially if Cribbs winds up with a larger role on offense.

Always fun to play the 53 man game. (Except for those 22 that don't make it).
QB = Frye - Quinn - Dorsey (3) - Look to try and trade DA, if a qb goes down in the last preaseason game, get anything (magic beans maybe), or cut him.
RB = Lewis - Wright - Harrison (3) - I like Barclay's special teams play, but carrying 4 RB's doesn't seem practical to me, when you can only have 45 active on gameday.
FB = Vickers - Ali (2) - Thought long and hard about keeping only vickers (which wouldn't surprise me).
TE = Winslow - Heiden - Krause (3) - Keeping either Krause or Dinkins as the third, both bring good things for a 3rd TE, so either/both would be good.
WR = Braylon - JJ - Cribbs - Wilson - Carter (5) - Really wanted to keep Sanders, but numbers crunched him out. Like his work ethic.
OT = Thomas - Shaffer - Butler - Dorsey (4) - Dorsey was out, imo, prior to starting at RT last night, doubt they cut him now.
OG = Steinbach - McKinney - Sowells (3) - Could see Matua making it over Sowells.
OC = Fraley - Friedman (2) - Friedman is the main backup in the middle.
NT = Washington - Shaun Smith - Kelley (3)
DE = Roye - R. Smith - Fraser - Purcell (4) - J Parker could be the fourth, but he might get IR'd depending on the extent of the injury last night.
ILB = A.Davis - Jackson - Williams - Unck (4)
OLB = Wimbley - Peek - Thompson - McMillian - Grifin (5) - McGinest to IR. Thompson becomes the backup to ILB and OLB, his versatility helps.
CB = Bodden - Eric Wright - Holly - K. Wright - McDonald (5) - Baxter to IR. McDonald has experience at FS (in college) so he can help there if necessary. Plus McDonald is the backup PR.
S = S.Jones - Pool - Hamilton - Adams (4) - Adams it my choice to go when Tucker returns, just my opinion.
ST = (P)-Zastudil, (K)-Dawson, (LS)-Pontbriand (3)
*** IR = (In addition to Stewart & Jackson) McGinest, Baxter, Parker, Short (maybe one more - who knows who that is)
Practice Squad = Steptoe(WR) - Barclay(RB) - Rob Smith(OL) - Steve Sanders(WR) - Clifton Smith (LB) - DeMario Minter(DB) - Oshinowo (DL) - Pittman(DL). - That's 8, could see Perry making the PS, and possibly another player from another team. 8 is the limit I believe, so pick and choose the two that might go.
Statistics are like a bikini; what they show is interesting, but what they hide is vital. Drive for show (1st round), Putt for dough (rest of draft).

Actually, I kinda like Merths better,,, Except I'd put Dorsey in for Anderson....
And baxter doesn't even have to go on IR right away,, he can go on when Tucker comes back ,,,, so he could be here long enough into the season to determine if he can come back or not.. If he can, then find another weak link to cut instead..
We can deal with Bentley in week 6,7,8.. But McGinist presents a problem. Nothing personal against Willie,, but he's just not needed anymore... and he's old and hurt a lot.. So maybe the best thing he can do is sign with NE and then retire. JMO

I really hope they find a spot for Barclay .. I think the kid can play this game and has the moves you want in a third down back .. Give him a crack and he is gone !

Yes. I can't stand the fact that we keep a guy around just to be a long snapper.
Remember, these our players I like to see, not those I think will actually make the team. Pontbriand will be on the team.

I wouldn't be opposed to keeping Barclay as a WR if it came down between that and cutting him. He seems to catch the ball well out of the backfield.

Unck who? I don't even think his name has been called this past season. I'd keep smith and Griffin over unck and cut a wr to run with 5 of them it's not like we can have 6 wr's on the field esp since in a 5 reciever set winslow will be on the field.
Hunter + Dart = This is the way.

That last player isn't necessarily looked at as an LB, but almost purely as a STer. Realistically if Williams and Thompson would go in at LB ahead of that ST player. Unck has been good, very good, on special teams the past few years.

It was a lot harder to pick the backend of the roster this year than the years past. We are going to cut people we don’t want to. It is really a good sign that we are improving the talent of the roster.
Most of the young guys we cut we will get back on the practice squad so if there is a close decision on players I’m willing to bet Romeo will want to keep the older player and see if the younger guys clears waivers.

I would love it if we cut McGinest. Unfortunately, I don't think we can cut him until he's healthy again. With the linebacker upgrades and development of the young players, he's not real useful these days.
I don't see RAC cutting him, though, because he's played under RAC forever and we know how Romeo has a real hard-on for the vets. The only way he's cut is if Savage forces the issue.
Much respect to ya, even if you wish me the opposite...

That is correct, we would have to reach an injury settlement with him and his agent, then we'd still be on the hook for any unaccounted for but already paid bonus money.

I don't think Minter is making the roster. He missed last year, and hasn't played much this year. Kenny Wright should make it before him. I think Minter will be relegated to the PS.
I'd like to see Clifton Smith stick as a back up as well as possibly Griffin.
You have some room to play with until Tucker comes back (who we need to keep) and Bentley on PUP.
I agree with Krause over Dinkins. He's shown good hands, and I've seen Dinkins with some not-so-good hands. He's basically a blocking TE. Unless that's what they are shooting for on the goalline.
I think the 2 most intriguing spots will be out at the sidelines.......... Corners and Receivers
Does Wilson stick? Do we keep 6 WR's, or do we need someone else more than a 6th receiver? I think we only keep 5. There's nobody that's really impressed to waste a spot as a 6th reciever.
Braylon, JJ, Cribbs, Carter, Wilson (Sanders = PS) Bodden, Wright, Holly, Wright, McDonald................and the tricky spot.........Baxter
Maybe that 53rd spot is his, maybe we IR him. But if we do, we're going to have one unhappy guy in GB. I can guarantee that. He's worked his ass off, and if he doesn't play, I know he'll be a problem.
I think Minter gets cut and may stick on the PS.

I think he will get cut also. I would think that he could clear waivers and we could get him on the PS. More practice would help him.

QB...as long as its BQ and Frye - honestly I could care less who the 3rd one is.
"This won't happen but I really like Barclay." Ditto me on that.
"I love Krause's ability to catch the ball I would love to see him as our number 2." - I know he came from SD so Chud might like him as well...but Dinkins is our best blocking TE and is a Special Team leader.
WR...6? Carter serves his purpose - Speed. Sanders? Never really saw him do anything is he a Local boy?
OL...I don't think Matua makes it. Dorsey might until Tucker comes back that is.
FB...No way we keep two unless Vickers needs to heal - in that case maybe we keep Ali until Tucker comes back and then he goes???
DL...Baba??? haven't seen him play yet...I mean I must have seen him but nothing that stood out for me to notice him. Kelley have value for us so does Parker. I think Purcell n Pittman will both go on the practice squad.
Safties - I don't like Adams either...we might pick one up from the cut players or this might be where Baxter comes in.???
LBs...you really think we will table McG? for Smith and Griffin? I like both but that puts us with 6 ILB and just 2 OLB granted Thompson can play both. I think the Mc boys will both make it for OLB depth McG and McMillan
CBs...Haven't seen much of him but I've read that the coaches think he is special. Minter.
Special teams...you forgot Ponti. Best Long Snapper in the NFL.

Pretty accurate if I say so myself...but its very difficult for me to pat my back right now...lol
I was off on Minter though. Its a shame the kid couldn't stay healthy. Some will say what about Baxter but at least he got on the field.
Also Griffin made it - I think that was more a replacement of Unck and he did play well.
Too much crying on the other thread so figured I'd look back at this one right now.
And for those who claim we drafted badly in the 2nd day...learn ya football. JMHO
